Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great hotel in beautiful seaside fishing town. Good old country hospitality. All staff friendly, good tucker, beer garden, verandah glassed area, sports bar - ship wrecked, large bistro. Reasonable prices. Good local fishing photos on the walls. Enjoyed our time here.

Very clean and comfortable accommodation. You must be happy with shared bathrooms and only fans in rooms But you must remember the cost is very reasonable. Nice bar with cold drinks and excellent dining room it’s great meals. Great value for money We were on the Aussie Camino walk from Portland to Penola and they arranged breakfast and take away lunch

Stopped here for a night stay . Clean and comfortable room with adequate bathroom down the passage . Quaint eating area to make your own breakfast . Great value too. Right in the centre with many food options . Pub meal was fine but loved local pizza

Started our week break in the South East at Mt Gambier, but glad we went down to Port MacDonnell for a look at the beautiful sea views and a stop at the pub for a couple. The Barman was very accommodating in helping us choose some wineries to visit in the Coonawarra and the local guys at the bar were very nice and chatty. We all had a bit of fun trying to guess all the sportsman in the Legends Bar potrait. A very nice hour spent......tks.

Nothing but good things to say about this hotel! We were a table of 4 - ordered our meals and they came out really quickly and were very good. I had a steak, which was reasonably priced and cooked perfectly to my preference. Other half had fish and chips, which was a very generous serve of moist fish with nice crisp batter and good chips. The other couple's meals were equally as good. Salads were extra, but we were all offered a complimentary bowl of salad anyway, which was very nice of them. The staff were very friendly and helpful on wine, etc. The wine list is limited, but has some good choices on it. There are limited eating out options in Port Mac, especially for an evening meal, so make sure you put this one on your list to visit!

We had take away fish and chips, and it was fantastic, couldn't fault it. The pub is under new management with a wonderful new Italian influenced menu, and the new publican is very friendly and helpful.

Called in there for a beer and some local information. Not a welcoming place, local blokes talking loud and swearing, bar staff not that helpful and gave us wrong information with overpriced beer. Definitely more a locals pub than a visitors one.

Wow after Nelson Hotel, this place was paradise. We came as a 10 people hiking group and were made very welcome. Some of us wanted to change from shared room to a single room to have a snore free night. Nothing was a problem. We could change the triple share room into 3 singles with only $25 extra. Everyone smiled and was friendly. The meals were fabulous and great value. Bailey's ice cream with crushed almonds was yum! Only negative was loud headbanger music, when all you want is sleep after 34km hiking. But it's a pub after all I guess.

Visited the hotel for lunch and had to wait an extremely long time for our meal. Disappointing when you only order fish and chips and soup. About 1.5 hour wait! Will not return in a hurry. Meals were average staff not really interested in complaints.
