What an amazing place to stay. We stayed in the Policeman's Residence and found it to be a great balance of modern while keeping historical aspects of the place. The view to the old cells just outside our kitchen window was a great addition. The place is spacious and very clean. The beds are so comfortable (I need to track down those mattresses for myself!) and the hosts Emma and Grant are extremely friendly. A very special place and we can't wait to get back down there to try the Post Office Apartment. Highly recommended :)
We have just spent 3 lovely days in the Post Office apartment at the Customs House. The apartment is beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable and the outdoor area was a sheltered lunch spot. Two quirks to be aware of: -the only toilet is downstairs so that for those people using the upstairs bedrooms, nocturnal visits require negotiating a relatively steep set of stairs -the shower does make the bathroom floor tiles wet and slippery but this was easily remedied by laying down the large beach towel that I had brought with me
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in customs house. A very homely atmosphere, beautiful decor and well appointed. Emma was very friendly and helpful. Port MacDonnell itself was a great little town with many attractions. There is a lot of community support for tourism.
Beautifully appointed historic building. Great facilities and wonderfully comfortable bed. Beautiful views out of our window onto the harbour/breakwater. Very caring hosts. Good advice from hosts for local attractions and activities.
It wa a real treat to stay in this historic building right on the seafront. The rooms were stylish and comfortable with a fully functional kitchen and laundry. The queen bed was comfortable. The rooms were cosy and the gas fire took the chill of the night air. Great value for money too and the owners were helpful and friendly.
The Customs House is a beautiful Georgian style building in Port MacDonnell, which has been very tastefully converted into separate apartments. We stayed at the Post Office Apartment (3 double bedrooms - with the option of twin share in at least one of them). Beds are comfortable, bathroom is great and the kitchen is equipped with everything you will need to self cater, though the pub serves great food and there are 2 fish and chipperies, plus the Periwinkles restaurant (run by the owners of the Customs House). The lounge/dining area is beautifully furnished and very comfortable and there is a slow combustion fire with plenty of wood provided for those chilly coastal nights! The owners are very friendly and helpful. Almost everything is positive, with just a couple of downsides: the main living areas are upstairs, as are 2 of the bedrooms, but the bathroom and toilet is downstairs - so if you are a little mobility impaired (as I was, having just had minor knee surgery) the double flight of stairs could be a challenge. The shower doesn't have a door, so the floor of the bathroom gets very wet, however careful you are. My only other niggle - and it is a small one - is that for premium accommodation the provisions in the way of toiletries (shampoos, etc.) was a little sparse, being just 2 tubes of shampoo/conditioner and no shower gel. Also was a little surprised to get a loaf of Tip Top white sandwich bread in the breakfast provisions, rather than at least one of the better commercial brands, mentioning no names! But as I say, these are minor things and didn't impact on our enjoyment of the property at all. Lovely place to stay to visit the Limestone Coast area.…
This is our second holiday to the beautiful historic Customs House at Port McDonnell. We have now stayed in both the Policeman's Residence and the Post Office Apartment. Both apartments are beautifully furnished with luxury in mind. Every detail has been covered and if there is something you need, all you need to do is ask. Emma and Grant are the perfect hosts, friendly and helpful. The history of the building is fascinating and the grounds are a beautiful place to relax. Highly recommend.
We stayed at the Post Office residence within the Customs House for one night with frields. It is a three bedroomed well appointed house ob two floors with a full kitchen and laundry facilities. The whole place is well maintained and you can sit and relax outside in the lovely courtyard. We had a minor problem but Grant and Emma were there to help. The only comment would be that it would be nice to have a bathroom upstairs but we realise that it is easier said than done in a historic building. We will definitely recommend this accommodation to our friends and hopefully be back.
Starting to look for a place to retire too and chose Custom House to base ourselves searching the area. Great hosts that look after your needs while keeping a distance. We stayed in the Post Office which part of the main historic building. The apartment is split over two levels with 2 king bedrooms, lounge and kitchen up a steep narrow staircase. Apartment is well appointed with all the amenities you need for an extended stay. Location is central in Port Macdonnell within easy walk to Bay Pizzeria and Perriwinkles Cafe. 👍👍👍
Our family stayed in the Policman's Residence, we found it very comfortable yet high end accommodation. Most comfortable mattress I've had away from home. Had every thing we needed and more, next time we will stay longer. Only small issue was soap holder missing in shower. Thanks Emma.
