Second time I have stayed, last time was in 2017. They have done some minor renovations. The motel is about 2k out of town but is very easy to find. Check-in was easy, very friendly guy was at the reception. The room (#8) was as you would expect for a 60's motel. Everything worked well. The wifi was great. Only complaint, try not to get a room with another one above it. Sadly I could hear them when they went to the loo. But is a great motel, handy to the freeway, would stay again.

We stayed here for 5 nights as we celebrated our 35th anniversary in The Barossa. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Russell and Vanessa really looked after us. They upgraded us and treated to a bottle of champers and were helpful with the usual touristy things.
It is true to say that it is not The Ritz but it is obvious that our hosts are steadily bringing their hotel up to date. They really appear to be committed to that.
But if you are looking at a place to stay that is clean, comfortable and quiet, then this is the place. Our room was well serviced every day. It is well appointed with a lot of mod cons.
It is well located for exploring The Barossa and very well priced. If your holiday consists of staying in your hotel, getting massages, using the gym, spa or pool then this place is probably not for you. But if you want a clean, comfortable, quiet, well located and well priced room, then I recommend this place.

Holidays are made up of memories and we have fond memories of this place, thanks to the hosts.
I reckon that Russell and Vanessa will do well with this hotel and I wish them well. If I am ever back there, this is where I will stay again.

We were hesitant when driving up to the motel as it looks tired and if I had read the reviews posted here, I would not have even bothered looking. Fortunately the lady at the Tanunda information centre told us to have a look, even though they are not listed on their main info guide. We asked to see the rooms first of all and were glad we did. Motel was very quiet running at around a 10% occupancy for a Saturday night. Had a look at Deluxe ($99) and standard room ($89). There was not much difference so stayed at the standard one. Even though this is the cheapest motel in town, it is really $10 p/night more than what it is worth.
Rooms are typical of any budget motel. They have their own website, but the rooms are not very well photographed and appear smaller than they really are. You can not book via their website either. www.topdropmotel.com.au
The rooms that we were shown were clean, small, with recently refurbished wardrobe, tea making facility.
Flat screen TV, Kettle, Microwave, Bed, Bath towels, Sheets etc are all in excellent condition and work well. Bathroom is very small & old, but shower worked well. It is in a quiet location and there was no traffic noise.
It wasn't hot, so did not use air con which was also old. Wifi did not work at all. Sheets were clean and in good condition but top covers need updating as does interior decor.
There were certainly no spiders or bugs as per previous reviews and room was clean enough. As an overnighter, it's definitely worth considering.

Having driven from Melbourne this was just a one night stopover but ticked all the boxes. A friendly owner checked us in and the room was tidy and clean, a great option for the price. On the edge of town with nothing much around but the motel is tastefully decorated with vines hanging outside rooms. Room had a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge and crockery available from reception. Would stay again whether passing through or exploring the Barossa.

We booked for 3 nights, great value the room is small but sufficient for a few nights, kettle , microwave and fridge . It’s an older place but our room was lovely and clean the managers are super friendly and you can see they are trying to make a good go at it. I would certainly stay here again when we are in the Barossa , it’s not 5 star but it worked well for us. I would recommend it if you are doing just a couple days. Easy to the freeway to Adelaide , very hot day so they left our aircon running so we didn’t have a hot room. Great spot

Having booked via Wotif (who were extremely unhelpful and unsympathetic), and after advising we would be arriving late after a 3 hour drive, we arrived at 8:50 pm and there was no one at reception (as we had expected) and rang the after hours number, as advised by the hotel, and no answer! We rang nine times between 9:00pm and 10:00pm with no response. We ended up booking elsewhere rather than sleep in car! The hotel advised Wotif that we no showed and did not contact prior to arrival. We have subsequently cancelled future bookings we had at the hotel and with Wotif. I would highly recommend that you avoid this motel and do not use Wotif.

Appalling service. They were happy to take the booking but weren’t there when I arrived. After standing at a closed reception for half an hour I eventually had to make a booking elsewhere. Then the owners finally returned my call 45 minutes later to say the were out listening to carols, no apology.
When I explained that I had to book somewhere else and wanted my money back, they refused!
I had been staying there for years on my way across to Perth and back because the old owners were fabulous. But after 2 bad experiences with these people… never again.

Basic but exceptionally clean with everything you need. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Value for money. Bed was really comfortable. Room presented well. Happy to stay again. Location to main shopping and other Barossa attractions close by.

Speaking as an award winning AirBnB hostess - what can I say for our 3 night booking? Bugs and mozzies after dark, noisy aircon, neighbours keeping us awake at night, sheets not changed in 3 days, towels not collected or replaced daily which meant damp drying after showers, coffee and tea not topped up at all, shower head faulty, no toiletries for guests....etc. I took the linen to the laundrette and washed it myself just so we could be clean but still felt dirty after staying in that place. Hygience standards are non-existent which could compromised those with ill health and allergies. Need I go on. The best thing the managers could do would be to bulldoze and rebuild. The place does not reflect website photos and the managers had nothing but excuses for our complaints. We left after 2 nights and wrote off the cost. Never again.

We have never had such a terrible experience.
First of all, I had booked for a two bedroom, room over the phone. My husband remembers my conversation distinctly requesting this. Upon arrival, we entered a room with one bedroom sleeping 3 people. I returned to the office to let the owner/manager know and she made it seem like it was my problem and that there was no way she would have made a mistake. She said, "I can offer you another single room and I will give it to you for $60 instead of $63"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We decided to keep the room and I told her that we were very disappointed.
Room seemed clean enough, just very very old - 1950's maybe 60's and had not been updated AT ALL on the inside. The bathroom door did not lock and slid open so someone had to hold the door if we did not all want to see the other go to the toilet.
We did not return until later that night and went straight to bed, after seeing a few bugs on the floor and a spider in the bathroom - we killed that.
The three of us never slept so poorly. I was itchy all over and soon realised that the blanket probably hadn't been washed for at months at the very least. The next morning we saw the manager changing the sheets but not the blankets. Gross. I am allergic to dust mites so am absolutely certain that this was the cause of my itchiness, which reduced when I took the blanket off. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable and I could feel my ribs on the electric blanket wiring. Awful.
Then we began to hear a mosquito hanging around and realised the managers had left a window open, which was not protected by a screen! We then realised why a can of fly spray was left for guest's use.

Awful awful awful. Will never go back - would prefer to drive back to adelaide. And would never recommend to anyone.
