We booked for 3 nights, great value the room is small but sufficient for a few nights, kettle , microwave and fridge . It’s an older place but our room was lovely and clean the managers are super friendly and you can see they are trying to make a good go at it. I would certainly stay here again when we are in the Barossa , it’s not 5 star but it worked well for us. I would recommend it if you are doing just a couple days. Easy to the freeway to Adelaide , very hot day so they left our aircon running so we didn’t have a hot room. Great spot

Second time I have stayed, last time was in 2017. They have done some minor renovations. The motel is about 2k out of town but is very easy to find. Check-in was easy, very friendly guy was at the reception. The room (#8) was as you would expect for a 60's motel. Everything worked well. The wifi was great. Only complaint, try not to get a room with another one above it. Sadly I could hear them when they went to the loo. But is a great motel, handy to the freeway, would stay again.

We booked this motel online it looked ok We only wanted somewhere clean and tidy Even though the motel room was old and shabby we were ok to keep our booking. What I didn’t expect was bugs crawling over me during the night. Large black and green bugs crawling over me. I was absolutely shaken by the bugs crawling over me. My husband was able to stomp on the bugs I got hardly any sleep during the night I am going to report this incident to the proper authorities Please reconsider if you intend staying at this motel

Response from VKH01, Manager at Barossa Gateway Motel
Responded 23 Oct 2019
Hi Catherine, Thank you for your response. I understand we are not a flashy hotel and we are not going to be to everyone's taste; however, we work hard to run our motel as a clean, comfortable, homely place and we do our best to accommodate everyone as best we can. As part of this, we have the rooms pest sprayed for insects twice a year as recommended. What we don't appreciate is reviews which are extremely misleading. When you checked out, you told me you had a bug (singular) crawling on you and that it disappeared (which your husband confirmed); not "bugs" that you mentioned in your review. There was no evidence of dead, squashed or alive bugs in the room when I inspected it after you left. We also see on our surveillance system that you spent half an hour sitting outside with your door wide open and lights on - which is probably how the "bugs" got in there in the first place. Please keep in mind that we are situated in the country and it was a warm night, bugs tend to be more prevalent on night's like that - by leaving your door open it was inevitable that some may have entered. We also supply insect spray in the rooms, just in case bugs get past the fly screens on the windows or a closed door. Also, upon seeing your other reviews on Trip Advisor, it seems that you are very hard to please. We will be discussing your review with Trip Advisor as it is misleading and fabricated. Sincerely, Management

This is one of those places people pay for 3-star and complain about not getting 5-star, based on some of the reviews on this site. We were looking for place in the Barossa that was cheap, clean and convenient, so that we could spend the rest of our money on the surrounding wineries. First the location - Nuriootpa is a great little, albeit sleepy, town to base yourself if you wish to tour the region. Most of the shops and cafes are closed on the weekend, but a could of decent places including the Vine Inn pub serve the area well. The motel itself does not pretend to be anything above the 3-star place that is rated as. We booked via Booking.com for ~A$100/night, and in return got a room that was adequate. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom although dated, was clean and the other utilities were basic but sufficient. The manager was most courteous and helpful. The rooms are serviced daily and breakfast options are available.
