Detailed Reviews
It's an absolute pleasure to be the first person to write a review about the heritage cottages at Tivers Row in Burra, having tried to do so on more than one occasion previously without success. If you like stepping back in time and enjoy feeling a true sense of history, then these superb restored miners' cottages are the place for you! I have had the pleasure of staying here in different cottages with and without family. Constructed in 1856 by immigrants, James and Emma Tiver, these quaint cottages are heritage listed properties and regarded as excellent examples of Cornish architecture and are within easy walking distance of the historic Redruth Quarter.
Each one is spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated in period manner with authentic furniture and fittings, including brass bedsteads with comfy mattresses and warm quilts, and old photographs impart a real sense of the past and of the mining families that formerly lived in these cottages. Each one has a lovely open fireplace and wood is provided on the back porch and replenished daily. When I arrived in 2007, a fire had been thoughtfully lit in the grate to provide a welcome glow and homely touch. I could have imagined myself living there! In the summer, BBQs can be arranged on request and enjoyed in the private garden at the back of each cottage which sport almond and various fruit trees. Each cottage comes equipped with a TV and a CD player, great for chilling out in front of the fire with a good glass (or two!) of local wine from the Clare Valley, while children will be kept amused by a variety of provided board games.
Plentiful breakfast supplies - good quality bacon and free range eggs, cereals, delicious home made preserves, biscuits, fresh orange juice, bread, filter coffee, Twining's teas and a fruit basket - are included in the price of the cottage. The 'ye olde world' kitchen is well appointed and you will find all that you need to rustle up a meal if you decide to eat in. The shower room at the back of each property has a slate floor with under floor heating, so you never feel the cold and the showers are hot and powerful and fluffy bathrobes are provided.
When I'm in Burra, I wouldn't stay anywhere else out of choice and in October 2012 was obliged to stay at the Burra Motor Inn as part of a conference group. It simply wasn't in the same league and I found myself visiting Tivers Row again. Although the price has gone up considerably over the last decade along with everything else in Australia, these cottages are worth a splurge just for the acute sense of history they impart to visitors touring this once bustling copper mining town.

What a wonderful place to stay. It is our 42nd wedding anniversary and we thought we would treat ourselves. We really have. We arrived to a very warm welcome with the lights on and the fire set to go. Firewood all chopped too! All breakfast ingredients ready for a lovely full breakfast menu. A very historical cottage and many, many, little touches of the past. We really enjoyed our stay and wish we had stayed years ago when we passed through. The owners really know how to make your stay very comfortable. We will definately come again. Thank you so much for giving us a special Anniversary to remember.

We've stayed here 3 times now, and never been disappointed. Its the little things that make the difference, gloves to carry the wood in for the fire, fresh apples on the dresser, all the local maps and tourist brochures neat and readable, and of course those heated floors in the bathrooms. Bliss.

It's cold and blustery outside...teeming rain and gale winds....but inside, by the fire, it is cosy and warm.
The cottage are gorgeous. I stayed here a number of years ago with a group when all the cottages were available to stay in. Things haven't changed but for the number available for accommodation.
Our one was a delight. We pulled up just in dusk..just as we did a figure emerged from our doorway.....they had just popped in to turn on the heating and some lovely lamps to welcome us. Such a nice touch.
There is everything you could possibly want: plenty of provisions for breakfast, plenty of treats, lovely furniture and linens. The fire was set...all we had to do was strike a match. For the rally cold nights there is supplemental heating in the form of electric blankets, wall heater panels and mobile heaters.
Truly a romantic getaway ....and well worth the visit. Stay in some heritage next time iu are in the "north"!!!

Absolutely fantastic cottages, tastefully decorated and furnished to reflect the era these cottages were built, it’s like stepping back in time. The cottages are clean and cosy, the beds are comfortable and the breakfast provisions are amazing.

Stunning cottages and gardens. Everything is thought of, lots of lovely extras including handmade soap, dressing gowns and hand knitted throw blankets. Wish we could have stayed and enjoyed the garden, would be especially gorgeous in Spring. Slightly out of main centre of town. Easy walk to town.

If you enjoy experiencing stepping back in time, then this is for you. Everything you could need was provided for including breakfast, cosy fire with firewood and a heated bathroom floor. As it was cold whilst we were there we didn't get to use the back garden however I should image that it would be lovely in spring. Look forward to staying again in the future.

We booked direct by e-mail for $165 per night for a couple. This is not cheap accommodation but is was a really memorable experience and I loved it. The little two bedroom miner’s cottage and its back yard was adorable. It was fitted out in period knick-knacks and vintage furniture. The kitchen was well equipped. The bathroom just out the back door was however modern, comfortable and even had heated floors. The generous provisions for self-serve breakfast were in the kitchen on arrival; juice, cereal, toast and eggs.
Burra has plenty to keep a visitor occupied for a full day. The town is divided into two parts and you really need your own transport to stay here. The cottages are located in a quiet back street. We chose not to eat out for dinner but took a pizza back to maximize the enjoyment of putting our feet up in front of an open fire.
There was apparently contradictory information on the cancellation penalties between the ‘Booking Confirmation’ document and the information sheet provided by the owners. The former stated that cancellation within 30 days would forfeit all monies paid. The later stated that cancellation up to 48 hours prior would allow a refund minus $50.

This was a gem of a find for a spontaneous overnight trip. We were really pleasantly surprised. The cottage was small but perfectly appointed. The bathroom and shower were lovely especially with the outlook into the private garden. Really lovely and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. We were with our 2.5-yr-old daughter and it was absolutely fine for us.

Word of mouth is essential and the owners of these stays have to be on their toes to make sure everything is provided that they claim on their advertising .
