I've stayed at the Bordertown Motel a few times now, most recently for two single nights in February 2023 as I was travelling with my dog between South Australia and Victoria. It's one of the very few places in the region offering accommodation which allows pets.

It's a very basic motel, with no bells and whistles, but it's clean, convenient and comfortable for an overnight stop. There are rooms allocated for guests with pets, with a grassy area nearby suitable for toileting dogs.

The people who run it are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has been closed the last couple of times I've stayed, BUT their kitchen is open and in the evenings they can provide a hearty meal delivered to your room. I've taken advantage of this and had a lovely dinner on my last two stopovers.

Sometimes we need to lodge a complaint, but how management responds to the complaint is often as important as the complaint itself. Full credit to Bordertown Motel in that regard. Our issue was treated seriously and responsibly and settled amicably. We would say though that this is far from the best motel we have stayed in. The rooms need upgrading, wi-fi was hopeless, restaurant not open, and access via a service road requiring crossing the busy highway from Bordertown is confusing. So, there are better choices and much better value elsewhere, but full credit to the owner/managers for their customer service

I stayed overnight on my way back to Adelaide from Melbourne. I was given a room in the block closest to the Highway. The road noise from trucks was evident and two freight trains were also heard during the night. The train track is behind the motel, which is sited between the main highway and the Adelaide-Melbourne rail line. The restaurant was closed, but a meal was brought to my room on time. The turkey schnitzel was very good and the serve of vegetables more than ample. The room I had was dated and oddly set up with the wash basin on the outside of the bathroom.

Squalid and revolting. Sorry, but a front door patched with duct tape was not a welcoming sight, and it got worse. We simply couldn’t stay. The hand basin was stained (or not properly cleaned) and it just got worse everywhere we looked. When my husband checked in, alarm bells sounded when the menu he was shown (presumably to order dinner) was greasy and dirty but he didn’t realise how bad the unit was going to be. No, no, no, no, no. We left the place immediately and got a refund. The man at reception was very polite and readily agreed to our request but he did offer us a ‘better room’ for inspection. Honestly, if you had a ‘better room’ available, why try to fob someone off with the ghastly room we were given? We had stayed there before - several years ago - but it must have changed hands and, whilst we had no illusions about it being a glamorous venue, we at least expected it to be clean and in reasonable repair. All we wanted was a night’s rest to break up a long trip but the unit we were given was a joke. You’d be better off sleeping in your car.

This wouldn’t be my first choice for accommodation in Bordertown. Very basic motel, adequate for a short stay but I’d consider other options before booking again.

Pros:
1. staff were friendly and accommodated our last minute booking
2. Air conditioning was effective and kept our room cold during hot weather
3. No highway noise at rear of motel

Cons:
1. Our room was dated and could do with a refresh (carpet lined walls, curtains falling down and old fixtures)
2. Housekeeping staff tried to enter our room before we’d checked out (we were still in bed!)
2. Restaurant was closed during our stay
3. Carpark is quite tight
4. General maintenance needs to be improved

While it’s only a short walk into Bordertown, you need to cross the busy Dukes highway. If you want to walk I suggest that you follow the service road east then continue walking past the go kart club and cross under the highway at Golf Course Road / Woolshed Street.

Very friendly and genuine staff. The evening dinner in their dining room was first class. Very well cooked and presented. Breakfast was also great and a credit to them. Facility was pet friendly.
Being close to the Dukes Highway meant there was some noise.

Amazing. Firstly let me start of with saying this is a MOTEL. It is not a 5 star hotel. BUT In saying that we had come from surfers paradise and the service was better than that! We stayed in a twin room. Yes it is basic but the experience was amazing. We arrived late, so a late check in was organised. Absolutely no issues at all, the staff even put the heater on for us!! Extremely thoughtful. The room has all your basic needs for a night stay or even a week! We are extremely grateful for the service and would definitely stay again

You would enjoy getting a quieets night rest here at an ok price. Staff were pleasant and rooms are clean, can't ask for much more in the middle of nowhere (sorry locals). Then enjoy the drive out the next day.

The Bordertown Motel was just fine. Located just off the main road with easy access to town it's a perfect pit stop for your onward journey. The attached restaurant has excellent service and the food was to a welcoming and surprisingly good standard! The trucks can get a little noisy at night so ask for a room towards the back-it comes at the additiional price of 10-15 AUD but well worth it for a comfy nights sleep. Decor is a little dated, but hey, it's not a holiday resort. Most impressed with the service. Would definitely stay again :-) Sal and Dean

We needed a room on our travels that could fit 2 adults and 3 children under 4 in it! The lady was really helpful and found me one and they even set up and made the portacot (not often done!)
The room was dated but clean and the shower was hot!
The trucks slow down at about 11pm so the noise isn't too bad and you do get used to it.
We were late in arriving and the receptionist called us to see if we were ok, which I thought was a lovely gesture.
Overall pretty good value for money.......and if you are travelling with a family...it has a toaster in the cupboard for children with munchies :) There is an old swing set out the front if the kids need some time out too.
