Great local venue for good food and atmosphere. Well worth spending some time here and enjoying the ambiance. Good food and excellent service. Friendly country pub in the heart of the beautiful Clare Valley.

We booked a nights stay on the hotel's website. When checking my credit card statement following our stay I found that the accomodation had been charged twice to my card. I contacted the hotel by email explaining the situation and requesting the double charge to my credit card be fixed. I received an automatic response stating that a hotel employee will shortly get back to me. That's the only response I ever received from them. My complaint that my credit card was charged twice for a stay with them was ignored. I then pursued this wrongful use of my credit card with the card's issuer. I eventually had the wrongful, double charge recrdited to me. Interesting that when reading past reviews I'm not the only one this has happened to when booking this hotel online.

Dear Sir/Madam I would like to personally look into this matter as this is a most unusual situation . Could you please call myself at the hotel so I can get further information as I have no way of tracing the circumstances under your code name of ibeachbum. I cannot even find your date of stay as our hotel was full on and around the 17th November 2018.I am glad the matter was resolved to your satisfaction but I would like to investigate how this did happen and to put into play steps to ensure this never happens again. The other example you quoted is totally unrelated and concerns a Husband and Wife both paying the accomodation on different credit cards on different dates to two different employees with the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing .The matter was quickly resolved to their complete satisfaction Thank you Mick Guerin Publican Rising Sun Hotel Auburn

Visiting the Clare valley to stock up on wine. Wanted a one stop place for the evening where we could relax and unwind with a few drinks and a meal, then walk to bed no driving.
Jagged a beautiful breezy evening to sit out on the verandah and watch the world go by. Hosts were excellent, and very friendly. Drinks were cold, and food was perfect.
Accommodation in Mews was rustic and basic(small),but very nice thanks to a modern AC unit.
Everything we’d hoped for in our overnight stay.
Relaxed, friendly front bar banter, and excellent food.

Very ordinary, T bone 🍖 served up with mash underneath salad and some concoction of gravy all over top which turned to a mix of glug, who puts mash under this. Risotto was like a gyprock mix.
Service quite good, nice pub, great location but needs better effort on food.

Called in for lunch - had tasteless arancini which were OK with the pickle side. The antipasto was inedible - mushy olives and cheap meats and the burger had a sauce on it that was overpowering. My husband left his meal uneaten. Very disappointing.

Visiting friends in Auburn, and staying in their B&B near Carlsruhe where there are no options for eating or shopping we had great delight in dining at the Rising Sun Hotel. Lovely, clean old-style hotel, tastefully restored. Walk in off the street into a public bar and bistro and when questioning about a table, we were led to a narrow hallway, again tastefully in keeping with the old-style decor, with tables for two along the sides. Local artists painting hung on the walls and available for purchase. Menu was excellently varied and specials abounded along with "Classic Pub" fare. Very well cooked and presented. Most enjoyable - both times

Stopped in for a shared light lunch. We chose 2 starters and a garlic bread. The chicken quesadillas and the pork dumplings. Both dishes were great. The dumplings were on a bed of wilted red cabbage which seemed to be pickled and whist being lovely, was slightly too salty. The young lady that served us was delightful and most helpful.
Thank you very much.

We dropped in for lunch on the weekend and were welcomed by the friendly staff who found us seating in the front dining room. Food was excellent and not over complicated or over-served (less is more). I had a fantastic pork belly curry. Others had burgers. The atmosphere is excellent with the pub holding it's original charm with all original, maintained woodwork throughout and bar. The staff are friendly relaxed and sociable. We will be back, many times.

Delicious meals as always. We had no idea that the pub had changed hands until hearing about it at a cellar door after lunch. The food was of the same high quality we had experienced under the previous owners.

The BnB is exceptionally good value. To be clear - the criticisms I've seen in previous reviews are accurate. The room is small and dark - but it's an old pub. That is part of its original structure and its charm. The bathroom is not separated from the bedroom by a door. There is a partition so that you can't see the toilet and shower from the bedroom but it doesn't go all the way across, so it's not soundproof or anything. There is no real privacy, so maybe it's better for long term couples rather than for your first ever mini break when you're still aiming for an air of mystery.

That all being said - you get what you pay for. Rooms here are a great price for clean and comfortable accomodation attached to a fantastic pub. The breakfast provisions (toast, cereal, juice, tea, coffee) are included in the room and a perfect light breakfast before a day of lots of wine and rich food.

The noise from the pub didn't carry on very late (we were there on a weeknight). The bed was a bit short for someone over 6 foot but comfortable enough for a short stay.

Would stay here again in a heartbeat if the price stays low.

Thank-you Mick, Ally and staff for a great evening of wining and dining. My wife and I dined at The Rising Sun Hotel in late December 2016 and enjoyed our meal very much. We chose a local red wine which was a perfect accompaniment to our food. The dining room is small but friendly with beautiful inlaid stucco designed type ceilings. The meal was of a high quality and expertly cooked. Overall a great country pub in a good locale within the best wine region in the world. The quality of the hotel, its staff, food and wine matches the high standard of The Gilbert and Clare Valleys in keeping with it's deserved world reputation for good eating and wine selection.
