Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I popped in to have a drink while driving through the country. This is such a lovely country pub. The food looked delicious and my husband has eaten here and loved it. Sat at the bar and talked to the proprietor who was very friendly. Look forward to another visit.

Stayed in the main building....typical country Aussie hotel. Old world feel but still very comfortable.fantastic value with bread and spreads, cereal and juice etc included for breakfast. Had a nice dinner as well with great service. Only criticism was no door on the ensuite..not ideal if travelling with a friend! ( was tucked around the corner so not totally exposed however!) Would stay again.

I stayed here for a recent business trip and found that The Rising Sun had everything that I needed - clean, comfortable beds and exceptional pub cuisine! Turn up the electric blanket as it does get cold during winter but the blanket and reverse cycling heater really did the trick! Pub food is fantastic - I had 3 meals during my stay including the roast, chicken schnitzel (crumbed on premise) and rump steak. Excellent selection of Clare Valley wines by the glass. Highly recommend for the holiday or business traveler.

Good place to eat on a cold winters night. We both had sirlion steak which was cooked perfectly medium rare and came with mash and a bacon & mushroom sauce. The steak & sauce were good but where were the vegetables. Surely at this price you could throw in a couple of pieces of broccoli. The wine list was pretty good but the service wasn't very professional like they had a couple of friends reluctantly helping out.

Beer quite expensive but very pleasant, great attractive old colonial style building, Wi-Fi did not connect unfortunately , busy for the gourmet weekend in Clare Valley, easy parking outside, friendly staff, worth a visit.

Sat outside in the beautiful sunshine out the front and watched the world go by sipping a coffee while waiting for our lunch. Super friendly staff made it even more pleasant. My husband had award winning lamb and rosemary sausages with mash while I devoured the most delicious salmon and dill pie with mash and a mustard creamy sauce. I can honestly say I have not tasted anything as good. We were so contented. A lovely day

We stayed here a couple nights ago. The rooms were awfully small and smelt of sewage which lingered through the building. Staff weren't overly friendly or helpful. Food was average. Wouldn't recommend this pub.

Look I know it was just an old pub but I'm afraid it really wasn't up to scratch. The ensuite left a little to be desired. Basically there was no door which made it more intimate than I was comfortable with. The room had a bit of a nasty smell even though it was very clean. Shower was good, bed was good, pub and food was good but the rooms were poor.

Old country pub with decent basic (including en suite) accommodation - clean, nice, great staff and very helpful management. Excellent value for the money and in a beautiful location. We stayed 2 nights and would have been happy to stay more. This is worth doing!

Visiting friends in Auburn, and staying in their B&B near Carlsruhe where there are no options for eating or shopping we had great delight in dining at the Rising Sun Hotel. Lovely, clean old-style hotel, tastefully restored. Walk in off the street into a public bar and bistro and when questioning about a table, we were led to a narrow hallway, again tastefully in keeping with the old-style decor, with tables for two along the sides. Local artists painting hung on the walls and available for purchase. Menu was excellently varied and specials abounded along with "Classic Pub" fare. Very well cooked and presented. Most enjoyable - both times
