Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food was amazing and the bed was super comfy. However there was no door on the bathroom so we were using the toilet in the bar, the shower dripped constantly and left everything wet in the bathroom and the shower head was covered in shower plaque. The was a few holes in the walls too. Staff were however very nice once they found our reservation.

Whilst travelling through the Clare Valley and staying close by in the village we chose to have dinner and drinks at the Rising Sun.

comfortable table, standard well cooked pub food, good service, wide choice of drinks, cheerful staff.

Stayed here for two nights, selected it while en-route towards the Clare Valley. Wonderful warm reception in spite of arrival during hotel staff's Xmas function. Dinner served promptly, room upgraded, and of course great wines from the local wineries (they recommended us a splendid Seraph's Crossing 2009 shiraz --no longer available currently). Rooms (even upgraded) are quite small but clean and quiet in spite of road proximity, cosy verandah. Wifi only in main building (our room was in a side building on the same premises)

The two of us travelling north in south Australian turned to the west for a brief visit and found the Clare valley. The Clare Valley is renowned for it's quality wine and food and competes well with the Barossa Valley for it's wine and food. We did find a typical Aussie pub, south of Clare at Auburn, "The rising Sun". The a' la' carte food and bar here is worth the visit. Speaking with the locals we were told the accommodation is charming as well. Highly recommended.

Fantastic food and a really great vibe. Can't recommend this place more. The food was delicious. Coming from Melbourne it's been the best stop off we've had after traveling in SA for two weeks. We will definitely come here again for a great feed and friendly service. The accommodation exceeded my expectations by a mile! And the food is what you'd expect from a top quality pub in a big city.

So upon leaving SA for job opportunities I needed to have a leaving do. Previously I had heard many raves about this pub. Great pub meals and fantastic venue as well as many other positives.
My only regret, not going there sooner to have a pub meal!
I organised my event interstate. I never had an issue. I was able to cater for 2 tastes of guests- the pub meal and the foodie, both were happy.
My meal was FANTASTIC (duck). My partners meal was BRILLIANT (steak). I did not hear one complaint, which is really something for my group!
Stayed the night in one of the mid range rooms. Lovely country style aged room.
Overall I was delighted with my experience!

We've eaten here before and it was great. This time my curry was served with a pile of tiny, cold Asian mushooms. Service was slow and prices a bit steep.
The dining room is turn of the last century and nicely laid out with white table clothes. Overall atmosphere is good.
Please take note of these comments as we hope for better next time.

Went there for lunch today. Food was pretty average, uninteresting and lacking in flavour. I had the lamb sausages that were meant to be very special. They were a big serve and yet surprisingly tasteless they were served my favourite way - with mash - which again had little to recommend it. My wife had a salmon salad that was frankly just a wet mush. Again, they had managed to somehow take lots of the essential salmon flavour out of the salmon and had not managed to replace it! Others at our table were similar ambivalent about the food.
Service was pleasant and fast and thus the average rating, whereas it would, perhaps should have been 'poor'

Stunned by the rudeness of the staff. 100 people at a Fringe Show in the backyard and when we inquired about dinner at 8:10 the response was “are you kidding?!” As Clare Valley locals we were appalled to find a hospitality business speaking to anyone like this.

Response from Mick Guerin, Owner at The Rising Sun Hotel
Responded 27 Mar 2022
Hi Kirsty . First up I must apologise to you if you were spoken to like that by a staff member . I am assuming this would have been the previous Saturday night to when you wrote your review as we did not have a Fringe show on the long weekend of the 12th March . We did have a very large audience that Saturday night (around 160 Ticketed people attended) and many of these had dined in the Hotel prior to the Show Commencing .A point I did note however was that you say you came in at 8.10 PM looking for a meal . Our Kitchen closes at 8 PM and it is critical in these current times that everyone must book especially on a Saturday night and especially under the Covid Restrictions to be assured of getting a meal . Whilst I am not condoning the way you say you were spoken to by a staff member I can understand their frustration that on such a busy night that someone has come in after our kitchen has closed with out a booking and expecting to be fed . You should not have been spoken to like that and I will take this matter up with my staff to ensure that Frustrations are kept in check despite how frustrated they might be when dealing with situations such as these . If you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to give the Hotel a call and ask for myself .

Everything you would expect from a country hotel. I got the steak which just fell apart and the mash was amazing. My partner had the salmon and thought it was great. The service was great as well and the owners came over for a chat.
