Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very welcoming owners and staff. Comfortable if quaint accommodation in lovely little town. Little bit of road noise in front room (mews) but worth staying in this room for the garden area. Good pub food.

Our waitress went above and beyond to check that my choices really were Gluten Free. She advised that the chips were cooked with oil used for non-GF food, therefore unsuitable for my needs. She also checked with the chef that the risotto stock was indeed gluten free. The risotto was beautiful, if a little oily. My comments and compliments were conveyed to the chef. My husband loved his calamari. The service was impeccable.

Booked an overnight stay on this historic hotel while visiting the Clare Valley wine region. Great little pub with reasonable accommodation. For the place, room price was not bad. Room was clean and serviceable to lay the head down for the evening. Reckon a hand rail in the shower would be helpful for older stayers. The downside was the bed - not the most comfortable and the in room 'continental' breakfast could have done with some decent bread for toast. However, the upside was the owners/staff were obliging and friendly. As evidenced by the numbers in for a feed, the food for dinner was very, very good as well as reasonably priced.

Our second time here and again was not disappointed. We had dinner between three of us and not an issue with the food at all. Very nice indeed. Friendly staff and great service. Luck we booked, as was very busy on weekend. Will be back for sure.

Very ordinary, T bone 🍖 served up with mash underneath salad and some concoction of gravy all over top which turned to a mix of glug, who puts mash under this. Risotto was like a gyprock mix. Service quite good, nice pub, great location but needs better effort on food.

Stopped for dinner and stayed overnight! My friend and I had been camping in the Flinders Ranges and were running out of energy to finish the journey to Adelaide. What a friendly welcome we had! A couple of cold beers and then a super pub style meal in the cheerful dining room by a cosy fire. Our twin room was comfy enough, and would've been even better if there was a door to the ensuite! (we're just good friends...) Quiet night and good sleep. Next morning we fancied a cuppa and a slice of toast but it was quite hard to find a suitable plug so we had to use the kettle and toaster on the floor. Not irritating, but inconvenient. Anyway, this is a great pub in the old tradition, and long may it continue so! We loved our stay there.

Our meal tonight at The Rising Sun was served by friendly and obliging staff. The advice on the menu by the staff was helpful. However, the main performance was the food itself- delicious, abundant, flavourful and matched with an excellent selection of local wines. To top it off a log fire was burning beautifully to keep us toasty and warm. Thanks Rising Sun.

We eat out a lot, both in Australia and abroad. We came here for lunch yesterday (with a booking I might add). We explained to the waitress that we only had an hour as we were on a bus tour. We asked what would she recommend menu wise to make this work. She was very good, however we were still waiting 30 - 40 - 50 -55 minutes later for a simple schnitzel. Go figure? Hungry, we just had to go. To make matters worse when we asked for a discount on our drinks we were ignored. I find this behaviour arrogant, rude and completely disgusting and would encourage other travellers to try elsewhere. Hotels and restaurants short staff themselves either they cant find anyone or are too miserable to pay for an extra set of arms and legs.

This is a beautiful old country pub on the main street of Auburn, with separate motel style rooms out the back. The rooms aren't big, but they are very comfortable and have plenty of character. The price includes the usual tea and coffee facilities, but also some basic breakfast and complimentary port. We stayed for 2 nights and ate in the pub both nights and thoroughly enjoyed the food and country atmosphere. The owners are fairly new, having had the business for less than two years. They were very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Called in for lunch - had tasteless arancini which were OK with the pickle side. The antipasto was inedible - mushy olives and cheap meats and the burger had a sauce on it that was overpowering. My husband left his meal uneaten. Very disappointing.
