Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We've been big fans of the Rising Sun Hotel for a number of years, however tonight's dinner was truely awful. Lettuce in salads was slimy, black & obviously not edible, service was well below average. We had to ask for an ice bucket for our bottle of wine. We ate very little of our meals & won't eat there again. Such a shame as it was a great little pub with previous owners.

Auburn is a wonderful place, the Hospitality at The Rising Sun was exceptional, from the first greeting right through to the very friendly and efficient staff at Dinner. Excellent food as well, very happy to change meals with no hesitation or problem.
The only criticism we have is with the very very cold accomodation!
We stayed in a superior Muse Room which initially impressed us but being unable to get it anywhere near warm at this time of year is a major concern!
The Bathroom was Antique in everyway that wasn't pleasant, the Hand Basin was a health hazard at the best, very chipped and damaged and also the shower head needed a really good scrubb!
Attention to detail in the Bedroom............definetly finished there.
Really needs to be addressed.
Very dissaoponting accomodation overall

definetly didn't carry through to this area, a really major disappointed.

We eat out a lot, both in Australia and abroad.
We came here for lunch yesterday (with a booking I might add). We explained to the waitress that we only had an hour as we were on a bus tour. We asked what would she recommend menu wise to make this work. She was very good, however we were still waiting 30 - 40 - 50 -55 minutes later for a simple schnitzel. Go figure?
Hungry, we just had to go.
To make matters worse when we asked for a discount on our drinks we were ignored.
I find this behaviour arrogant, rude and completely disgusting and would encourage other travellers to try elsewhere.
Hotels and restaurants short staff themselves either they cant find anyone or are too miserable to pay for an extra set of arms and legs.

I went in earlier in the day and rather liked the look of their menu. It's a pity the meal I had didn't live up to how good it sounded. I ordered the beer battered barramundi and unfortunately it was soaked in oil, forcing me to peel off the batter. To top that off, chef had put the 2 pieces of Barra on top of my chips, so they were basically inedible due to being oil logged. At least my husbands steak was a medium-rare as he'd asked for. Unfortunately we will not be going back.

room 3 needs some work. A nice touch was the decanter of Port in the room to enjoy, which we did. Fan only had 2 settings because the knob was broken: super fast speed that we worried it might fly off- or off. The split system aircon did not work. The bed was like a plank of wood. the bathroom was nice. The dinner in the hotel was very nice. the staff were friendly.

Couldn't work out where to eat so stopped by and was not disappointed. Excellent menu for lunch and dinner. Has a tapas menu as well. Got a few things off the tapas menu and was surprised a country pub did such a good job. Wot a bottle of local rose and spend way to long watching the world go by.

We booked two nights in a superior mews room. After the first night we decided to move elsewhere, we didn’t expect a refund for the second night so didn’t try, the room and bed were very small and far from superior. The shower curtain was about a foot short and water went everywhere. The internet didn’t work and we felt the staff knew very well it didn’t. We could get an hour from the Tourist board hot spot close by.
There was a certain charm to the rooms but it was not for us I’m afraid, we had no where in the room to sit but on the bed, it was too cool to be outside. We had nowhere for our cases - we are travelling for 6 weeks so had a bit of luggage.
The restaurant and staff were fine, the food good pub grub.
It cost us but we’re pleased to move elsewhere, it just wasn’t for us unfortunately.

Booked this hotel online through Wotif and paid via credit card at the time at booking. The Rising Star disputed the fact that we paid, despite showing bank account records and the original receipt. We had to pay twice, but fortunately we were able to receive a refund through the online booking company after proving we had been double charged. According to the owners we had been scammed and they said this has happened to customers before. I would hate to know how many other people have been ripped off when booking this hotel in the past.
Room was very basic for $130 a night. We were there on a hot night and air con wasn't working and the fan only had two speeds - super fast and barely spinning. The hotel was in a nice location and had a beautiful little garden area outside the hotel rooms. Great spot to relax on a nice evening. Overall though disappointed by the whole experience.

Place was dark, dingy, dirty and overpriced. It sits right on a busy road to there is car noise all night. Rooms are badly maintained, broken lights and non-fitting room keys. Beds small and soft.

Staff were extremely rude - I broke a lamp shade by mistake. I owned up to it and they decided to charge me AUD70 to replace the whole thing. When I told them I thought that was unreasonable but said I would pay anyway, I was called a rude name and then told that they didn’t want my money. In the end they were happy to take the money.

Dear Nick W Without prejudice I do clearly remember you and your family as you made your presence very well known for all the wrong reasons after you arrived here. You actually booked your own accomodation yourself and initially had yourself and you wife in one hotel room alongside your teenage son and teenage daughter in a share room which I must say is most unusual but it was your decision .You asked to be moved to another room and you were shown a number of options before you chose our Superior Executive room .This is our most sought after room and other guests love it as you indicated yourself when choosing it so for you to now say the things you say is quite dissapointing . My staff went well above their requirements to please you and again it dissapoints to hear you say the things about them that simply are not true .Without knowing how the lamp got broke I might suggest this could have happened after your quite loud discussion with your wife in the front bar which many customers commented on after you went back to your room and your wife moved to the front veranda of the hotel . Sir , whilst you did remind myself and my staff a number of times how you were English and held a very high position based in Singapore but the lesson I have learnt from all of this is to tell our customers that if they are going to go out on a full day Wine tour that they also consume a lot of water as this will help when they return back to the hotel .There is always two sides to a story

We stayed here a couple nights ago. The rooms were awfully small and smelt of sewage which lingered through the building. Staff weren't overly friendly or helpful. Food was average. Wouldn't recommend this pub.
