The Marble Lodge in Angaston has two guestrooms hidden behind the main mansion. We stayed at the Magnolia Suite which in fact has a sitting room and a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with shower. There is also the possibility to make use of the spa bath, which is shared between the two guestrooms, but we did no use that opportunity. The guestrooms are decorated with antique memorablia from the many trips undertaken by Shirley, the lovely lady who manages the B&B. So it is obvious that a little care is appropriate to keep the rooms and furniture in good shape. Breakfast is served in the main manor and is presented as a small buffet breakfast, essentially some toasts, cereals, croissants, yoghurt and fruits. Good enough to start of the day, but obviously it is not possible to serve a full fledged buffet breakfast which you can find at a large hotel.

Very charming period property with a host to match! Perched on a hilltop with great district views, we stayed at Marble Lodge over the Easter long weekend. Centrally located with just a 5 minute stroll into the Main Street of Angaston, this property is conveniently located yet very peaceful and serene. Our host Shirley is warm, friendly and a real character. Our suite was impeccably furnished, clean and warm with period charm and everything was thought of. Comfortable bed with pillow menu was icing on the cake. Breakfast was delicious with variety and made all the more interesting as Shirley is a great conversationalist with plenty of interesting stories to tell. Would thoroughly recommend to couples and families alike! We would definitely stay here again on a future return trip.

We showed up after a long drive to be greeted by our host, Shirley - full of energy and great stories. The property is a beautiful heritage B&B that has been tended to with much pride over the years. From her personally hand carved furniture to the exquisite museum quality heirlooms and the complete attention to detail, we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. Shirley is an amazing individual who has traveled extensively and can finish most of your sentences describing travel adventures you have been on. She is an author, a photo journalist who could have easily worked for National Geographic. She is fun to visit with and you will leave enriched. Can't remember the last time we had a candle lite breakfast - always left satisfied and ready to tackle the Barossa.

It was such a pleasure to meet and get to know Wal and Karen, and thank you for your glowing report on your 3 day stay at Marble Lodge. I keep saying, without the company of such wonderful people as you, I could be lonely, then bored, and I've no intention of being either! I'm sure you enjoyed immensely your day ride with bikes along the amazing cycle track towards Gawler, hired from just down the street, not to forget sharing Dinner with you by candlelight one night! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the Barossa hospitality, scenery and our amazing wines!

The B&B is really a labor of love by its owner. The room are beautifully decorated and full of thoughtful amenities (mini-fridges, tea and coffee makers, etc). The breakfast was great and well-presented in the main house dining room. What makes this place really special though is Shirley, who is a human encyclopedia of travel and a joy to share a meal or cup of coffee with. The town's main street is a short stroll, and Shirley will even point out some interesting longer routes for a morning walk or run. Definitely the place to stay if you're visiting the area.

A beautiful self contained suite, beautifully furnished and two minutes walk down the hill into Angaston. The owner/operator is very welcoming, helpful and entertaining. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The candlelit breakfast is a real treat. Very suitable for couples. A delight.

I read with interest the reviews and couldn't help thinking the 2 negative reviews I read may have been a deliberate ploy to discredit this business based of falsehood. The property is really lovely is so many ways, but the real gem in this story is Shirley. A truly amazing woman. This is a splendid example of good old fashioned 'quality' service. My experience is similar to others in the 'hosted' accommodation...very rarely do you get it . Generally 'hosted' comes in the form of low quality breakfast bits tossed in a cupboard or a basket. Marble lodge is different. Shirley offers you quality in so many ways and it is truly hosted. Treat your self...go on you deserve the best.

Thank you for expressing your appreciation of what we've provided here. Having travelled so much myself, I know what is required and have tried to ensure everyone who chooses to stay, will leave with fond memories. The B&B has been designed to ensure guests will feel they're actually staying in the Homestead, but, with the B&B Lodge set apart from the Homestead they are assured of complete privacy and quiet, and yet walking distance to Restaurants, Wine Cellars etc. Like a cracked record (long before CDs!!) I continue to say how much I personally enjoy the company of the amazing couples who have stayed. Only recently couples have left home in South Africa, Israel, India and New Zealand, travelled to Australia, and chosen to stay with us at Marble Lodge in the beautiful Barossa wine region!! I love their stories too and am thrilled when, after 10 years, my beautiful friends have returned to stay again for 3 nights!

I get to stay in a lot of hotel accommodation, and also a lot of bed and breakfast accommodation and if there is one thing that gripes me is the use of "fully hosted"... almost no bed and breakfast is hosted any more, but Marble Lodge is truly different. This is a true "fully hosted bed and breakfast"... definitely not a pretender! My wife and I had a fantastic stay, right from the first smiling welcome from Shirley the owner who greeted us like long lost friends. Her disarming nature made us feel right at home, even though we had just driven in off the street in our 4WD, and towing a caravan. (Yes, even caravan people want some true luxury every now and then!) The expansive and manicured grounds provided an excellent spot to park our caravan, so we could explore the Barossa Valley without towing it everywhere, and Shirley could not have been more helpful, even guiding us in so that we could hook it up again easily when we left. (It wasn't until later that I discovered she had towed caravans for thousands of miles and lived in one for many years) Shirley is a very very interesting woman, and her world travels are reflected in everything about Marble Lodge and the attention to detail in every way. The full cooked breakfast (by candle light no less!) was just amazing... all from fresh locally grown and made ingredients (and it showed). We were so appreciative of Shirley's suggestions of where to dine, and then driving us to the restaurant so we could enjoy some local wines! What service. If you are visiting the Barossa, we cannot recommend highly enough for you to stop and meet our new friend at the wonderful Marble Lodge. Thankyou Shirley!

The wonderful couples who choose to stay with us at Marble Lodge is why - after all these years - I still love what I'm doing, I just love meeting so many amazing people! It is incredible how complete strangers one day, can become wonderful friends the next! Yes, we find we have lots of shared interests and enjoy one another's company over a candle-lit breakfast.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at this very well appointed B & B. Breakfasts were very good indeed, as were the stories of Shirley's many overseas travels. Angaston was a delightful little town and it was so convenient being able to walk to the very good restaurants in the evening. It was very well positioned for our visit to the Barossa. Thank you Shirley for all your helpful advice and hopefully we willl meet up again one day.
