Detailed Reviews
I came to Australia for studies, and I never imagined the actual place to be so different from the photos (negatively). The apartment is dirty, unkept, with broken or malfunctioning amenities in very bad shape and outdated. There is no aircon, which makes summer unbearable, and the ceiling fan had literal tape holding it in place. The motor was rusty, and there was constant leakage from the ceiling after it rained. Not to mention that despite the yearly pest control, I've found cockroaches and geckos all over the place, and had to catch them myself. The fridge, too, leaked. The RA conducting inspections and blaming the residents for the faulty equipments is absolutely unacceptable, and I have complained a number of times, to no avail.
They advertise good looking rooms for the sake of publicity and advertisement, but give kitchens without ovens, pots, or pans, rooms with no linens, towels, or pillows. On top of the bond, and the 300 AUS per week, we have to pay for literal FURNITURE. Exceptions being the miserable two small sofas (yay?).
In all honestly, avoid this place. There are much better options for a reliable, good, liveable flat to spend your time studying.

I lived here for years during my studies, because of its proximity to the campus. And I am sick of it.
The number one problem is the noise. Pretty much every single night, there is someone holding a raucous house party on the other side of the road, near the middle of the entire Village. The constant, booming, repetitive, grating, bass-heavy music, as well as the occasional animalistic growls of the partiers, gets on my nerves and worsens my mood significantly. My ears are hurting as I write this review.
The amenities are quite average too. I have lived in a 5-person apartment, and among us, there is only one fridge, one small stove top with 4 slots, and a microwave. Fortunately, the microwave in MY particular apartment also functioned as a toaster, but residents must procure anything else, like a toaster or an instant pot (in case others have not bought them for you, and/or are not willing to share).
The bathrooms aren't quite good either. There are only showers here. No bathtubs. I would expect either an ensuite bathroom or a bathtub at this price range, but there are only 2 bathrooms in total.
Management is hard to access too. After about 6PM, pretty much everyone leaves, letting the rambunctious ruckus go on unchecked every single night. Oh, by the way, they SAY they are a non-smoking establishment, but DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. I have caught whiff after whiff of cigarette smoke.
The only reason you should stay here is if you have trouble waking up in the morning, and need to live as close as possible to the campus.

The worst place ever to stay - particularly for students. Do not allow anyone you know to live here. The rooms themselves are filthy, have extremely poor amenities (one two burner small stovetop) NO OVEN. You will never get any sleep - management promote alcoholism and drug use and partying, every day and night. Toxic environment for a normal human being (not an animal) to live in. You pay over $300 per week for the smallest room, no facilities and no support. There is no tv reception at all and the internet drops out as soon as the slightest bit of rain falls, DO NOT STAY HERE!

I am an American exchange student who came to live at the "Griffith University" Village (which by the way, is not student living or associated with the uni at all), and I can honestly say this is the single worst living experience I have ever had. To start, the place doesn't look like the pictures at all, and clearly hasn't been renovated or cleaned since it was built. I moved in to INCHES of grime on the stove tops and floors, and mold and dust all throughout the unit. There is no air conditioning, little hot water, and horrible amenities that are constantly unreliable. $300 a week is about six times the amount the rooms are worth, and the staff are always coming up with fun little ways to rob the residents. There are two massive deposits at the start, many of the scheduled activities require a three digit payment for a mediocre time, laundry is eight dollars, and the worst part? They will NOT give you back all of the $1200 bond that you put down. They stage room "inspections," then fail every. Single. Person. and deduct hundreds from your bond with no good reason. I have never seen an establishment care less about their residents. If you are a first year or an international student, do yourself a favor and find a place in Surfer's. More than twice the quality, less than half the price.

This is one of the most aggressive and undervalue properties in the region. People are advised to find other places. These people are just not very nice. When I tried to secure the unit they asked for more information than required and tried overcharge me. I refused and the person got irate and super angry. I am from Norway so I am not used to property managers acting like they are the king or something.

Please do not make the same mistake that I and all the people I met here have made! Stay away from Griffith University Village. This place is a complete scam that takes advantage of students, especially those that are young and likely living out of home for the first time. I have literally never left a review for anywhere I've stayed before, but this place has driven me to create accounts on whatever review sites I can find simply so I can warn people not to come here.
Firstly:
For those that come to inspect the place before buying, they will show you a flat that is nothing like the one you'll actually end up in. The room you move into will always be scuffed and scratched, and they will try to blame you for it at the end of your stay and keep your bond. Not to mention, the flats are actually different sizes. I have been staying in a 5 bedroom flat and when I visited the RA's 5 bedroom I immediately noticed how much bigger it was. I can't say the same for the single and 2 bedroom places, but this was definitely a big "wtf" moment.
Being in the largest flat size (5 bedroom), I am paying the cheapest possible rent here at *only* $252/week. Having moved from the city and not being familiar with the Gold Coast economy, I figured this was probably a reasonable price. But wow. How wrong I was.
There are cheaper places that are just as close to the university campus (e.g. Smith Collective) and also filled with university students (I mention this because the social aspect was part of my reasoning for moving here), and yet these places are almost all cheaper than the village (some can be a little more when you take utility bills into consideration) and are invariably all MUCH more comfortable than the village (plus they have laundries, ovens, dishwashers, aircon, etc.).
Secondly:
The Gold Coast is hot. Like reeeeaaaally hot. Not just that though, it is extremely humid too. I lived in Cairnes for a year and compared to this, Cairnes was totally liveable. Here, you need a proper aircon in order to survive the summer months. A fan just isn't going to cut it.
At the village, they will tell you how all flats come equipped with fans - what they really mean is that there is a single ceiling fan in the kitchen while the rest of the building boils from August through May (night and day). Not that a fan even helps in the humidity. You are therefore left with no option but to fork out several hundred dollars at Bunning's for an AC unit.
Thirdly:
"Free Parking"? Wow. What an absolute joke. I drove up from Sydney with my car, got here only to be told that if I wanted to park I would need to pay $25/week for a permit. Obviously, what choice did I have when I'd already driven my car here? Signed a form that was never explained, just told that I needed to sign to be given a remote for the parking boom gate (stupid, I know, but had just driven 12.5 hours straight).
A few days later, find out that the parking structure facing the village (and only parking actually visible from the office where I was made to sign this parking contract) isn't even part of the village, but instead owned by the uni - and that parking there is only ~$7/week. The people working in the office conveniently let people assume that they have no other option besides paying the ridiculously steep $25/week. And of course when I went to enquire and ask if I could end the contract, they played the whole "tough luck, it was a year-long contract".
Fourthly:
Laundry. Whenever you want to do laundry you have to lug it down to the office area. The machines are tiny and every load costs $4 (+50c on card). After a while, this really adds up. Would be so much cheaper just to buy a machine for your apartment (not that there would be any room for it).
Also, there simply aren't enough machines to cater to the entire village, and half the time I've gone back to collect my laundry someone has taken it out and strewed it over the floor. Oh and the machines will be out of order. A lot.
Fifthly:
Yeah it's noisy. You are going to need noise-cancelling headphones. So that's a few hundred more you gotta spend on top of the other things and already steep rent in order to make this place even remotely habitable.
Sixthly:
The people working at the office here are absolutely horrible and clearly only interested in milking money out of all who come through here. I will say that the security guys here are lovely, as are the RAs, but the office staff and management are some of the worst people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting.
They are condescending and flat out rude, and made me cry on several occasions (I hate admitting that but it's true lol). If you have a simple request, like for your mail, they will be polite as anything, but as soon as you enquire about something being wrong with your living situation, they will shut you down. They will tell you to email management for any enquiries or problems, and even if you are lucky enough to hear back within a week (if at all sometimes), the response will always be short and rarely answer the address the question/problem.
Conclusion:
Do not stay here. You can barely live here, even if you do pay all that extra money for aircon, laundry, parking, etc. Don't be like me (or anyone else currently here) and only realise how unliveable this place is after you've already signed a contract to remain for a year or however long.
You will not have a stove, only a terrible microwave that takes forever to heat anything (and despite what the people working here tell you, the "oven" function does not work), and one small fridge to share between however many housemates you have. I have no idea why it mentions "coffee / tea maker" on this website. It has no such thing. We even had to buy our own kettle (though some other flats apparently came with one). Also had to buy our own toaster and literally every other appliance.
TL;DR: DO NOT G TO GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY VILLAGE

The accommodation address listed is not where the office is or the actual location so really misleading. They really need to get that sorted ASAP.
It's University dormitory style accommodation with a common room and kitchen, and you have your own very good sized bedroom with shared bathrooms and toilets.
At the mid week low season rate from $84 per night it's way over priced and there are way better options that are easier to find on the Gold Coast.
The staff were really helpful and nice though I have to say which dragged this from a poor rating to an average one just because I thought Amy the Duty Manager was a star with her customer service and tried really hard.
With staff like that it makes all difficulties seem minor...

I booked this through booking.com six weeks ago as I needed a place to stay as my daughters flat is too small and no spare beds (I live in Brisbane, she lives in Southport). I was visiting for the day and taking her out for dinner.
Firstly, when I booked it on line, the photo's and description lead me to believe I would be having my own 'unit' which looked lovely. I'm 47 years old and didn't know what to expect for uni accommodation at all.
When I arrived, there was zero instructions on how to find the University office to check in. I phoned the number and then walked around for ten minutes trying to find the person who was walking around looking for me (reception kid).
Finally, we find eachother... And I'm checked in. The penny didn't drop at all when he gave me a swipe key for the apartment, and then a separate key for my 'room'. I am shown into the unit.. First thing I see is a kitchen, with a dining room table with loads of bread crumbs all over it..And a very dirty floor... And a very dirty everything...Next I'm shown my room... As I walk past the 'communal toilets and bathrooms'.. Ahh, now the penny has dropped. It's a unit with around five 'bedrooms' in it and we all have to share the balcony, shower, loo, kitchen etc. I was horrified ! The thought of coming back to this filthy place (the toilets were disgusting) after dinner by myself actually made me feel very uneasy. Let me reiterate again how dirty and unclean it was. Made my skin crawl. The bedroom however, with a single bed in it (no aircon, tiny window) seemed very clean though.
I reluctantly put my suitcase in my room, locked the door and took my daughter out for lunch. The whole time I felt uneasy about staying there. After lunch I decided the $92 I paid wasn't worth my angst (I was happy to lose the money) so I went back to the unit to retrieve my bag and check out. The key I was given didn't work. I had to again phone reception boy, who stuffed up some how with the keys. He was very helpful and friendly and got me into my 'room'. I then said look I'm checking out, thanks! I didn't provide to him any feedback, I just wanted to get the out!
Hope my feedback helps others who are thinking of staying here. All I can say is, please don't risk your safety and health by doing so!
Cheers
Lori

The worst place ever to stay with family. Very upset that we were not informed of this when made booking. Will never book again. Not what is advertised and did not expect it at all. In the middle of all the students drinking, making noise and generally not an environment for kids at all.
