Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We arrived late (8pm) at the Blue Shades Motel, and after travelling all day with two teething irritable children, we were exhausted hungry and irritable ourselves .

David was so accomodating and kind - he offered us a larger room for the same price, so the kids could run about a bit after so long in the car .
Truly wonderful staff and a warm atmosphere and the restaurant and room service menu are surprisingly diverse - we’ll be back Blue Shades , can’t thank you enough for the hospitality!

A group of 25 car enthusiasts stayed for 2 nights. We had the exclusive use of the Conference Room where all our meals were served and it allowed us to have a few “competitions” within our group. The meals (2 dinners and 2 breakfasts) were brilliant and ready to be served at the prearranged times. Rooms were spacious and very clean. Especially loved the bench spaces especially in the bathroom. Hosts Michael and Mia and staff Carrie and Kay could not have been more accommodating. Would thoroughly recommend to groups as well as individual stays. Easy drive to the City Centre and all attractions. Also would recommend a visit to Lily’s Antique Store and Brennan & Geraghty’s Store Museum. Both opened up specially for our group.

We booked very last minute as we had to drive 4 hours up the coast for family. Rang them 6pm on a Friday afternoon to see if we could get a room for myself, hubby & our 1 year old. They were sooo accomodating leaving lights on as we arrived after midnight, they even bumped us up to an executive suite. Room was lovely- bed was comfy shower was excellent. Super friendly staff. Would 100% stay again in the future!

Clean and roomy with so much bench space in the kitchen snd bathroom. We stayed 3 nights and it was perfect
A very pleasant environment with friendly and helpful staff
The roll down blackout blinds were very effective.
We were quite close to the highway but the traffic noise didn’t affect us in any way.
I did suggest that the microwave would be more effective and useful on top of the bench as it was difficult to read the buttons in the position it is situated.
We’ll certainly return.

Over the years we have stayed at various motels in M'Borough but Blue Shades scores highest.
Spacious room with all facilities, a few steps upstairs, but, there is a ramp access. Some have undercover parking & there is a Conference Room !
Comprehensive room service menu during COVID, but, there is usually also a small dining room.
Was very busy ???, yes I know, but, the place was populated by QR personnel, probably trying to fix the rubbish Indian trains at Walkers the previous government decided upon, why ?? I think we all know why Mr Newman !
Rooms did not suffer from road traffic but did suffer from both QR staff noise & cigarette smoke just outside our door !!
Thankfully it did not go on all night as I assume they had to be on parade at 07:00.

Room had everything we needed and was nice and clean and recently refurbished. Unfortunately the people in the next room were extremely loud, parents yelling and swearing, kids yelling and crying, so we didn’t get much sleep. Blackout window coverings would have made for good sleep otherwise. Beds were comfy and there were spare blankets etc. Pool was small and dated but my kid enjoyed it anyway, I wasn’t tempted. Felt a bit like we were already in trouble before we started at check in as I must have mentioned on the booking or something that we were here for speedway and got told that the speedway clay doesn’t come out of the carpets so no shoes on in the room. We were just in to sleep and leave each day and for that it was fine.

This is not a modern motel, but has always been well maintained and very clean. Its new renovations have been very successful, Very good beds, pleasant decor and revamped bathrooms have really brought it up to a high standard. Management unfailingly pleasant and helpful. Recommend.

Nice clean motel,
Pretty standard for a country motel but quiet and comfortable.
Only issue is the rooms we were in had garages underneath and were small with very tight entry. Only suitable for small cars.
The motel is not in the cbd so you need a car to visit main sites.
Other than this all was,OK for one night.

Last minute booking due to an unfortunate mistake of booking at a different & very dodgy place in Maryborough, but my luck was in as Blue Shades had one room left!
Great service, the room was really good (very nice furnishings, kitchen, bed was great, parking outside room, pub nearby but I had room service & meal was really good)
I will definitely stay here again when I travel south from Cairns (this trip I was heading north) & they are popular (for good reason!) so book ahead.
Thanks so much for the last minute booking in my moment of need & best wishes.

Damien

Loved the rooms at the back. Separate bedroom to living area and bedroom is black out dark. Great for shift workers like me. The restaurant is great. Well worth dining there. The on site managers Helen and Ryan are wonderful people and will do anything to please.
