Detailed Reviews
The staff at this property were very good. They assisted us with a cot in the room and were friendly and helpful. The restaurant (Drift Wood) was also very nice and although on the expensive side offered large meals and a good variety of drinks. The room was outdated and had many cracked tiles and existing water damage on the skirtings. With a young child we didn't feel comfortable letting him crawl on the ground with the exposed tiles edges. A little bit of TLC and this could be a great place to stay.

We booked this accomodation several months ago to ensure we had a fantastic experience at 1770.
Arrived into this Oasis , checked into a two bedroom beach home, just what we wanted .
The setting is beautiful, apartment spacious and more than adequate . Just what we planned .
Until the construction noise started as we stepped outside , pictures will show closeness.
We contacted reception and requested to be moved , fully booked or Motel room or refund , the reception staff apologised and stated they had no say in the building works .
Apparently the Beach homes are independently owned and then rented out through the Sandcastles 1770
Brand.
I find it difficult to understand why we had not been notified via email in advance to the construction , the Owner would have been notified !
7 am until 4 pm , nail guns , construction noise , spoilt our beautiful getaway at 1770 for two days .
Reception staff are great , the Owners should of pulled the directly effected apartments while construction goes on or we should have been notified.
Directly effected apartments are 9,10,11,12 , these apartments face the construction . I would say all the Beach Homes would hear the noise .

We initially booked to stay here for two nights but were so impressed we decided to stay an extra three nights.
The accommodation was perfect & in an ideal setting very close to the main beach. We were lucky to be upgraded to a two bedroom beach villa with a plunge pool which was private & in a gated section of the resort. We were lucky to have hit a quiet time so everywhere was very peaceful.
The villa was ideal with basic amenities provided in the bathroom & kitchen. There was also a washing machine & dryer. Everything was clean & tidy with a comfortable bed & sofas in the sitting area. There was plenty of outside seating & beds around the plunge pool. There was also a swimming pool for the use of clients in the beach villas.
The gardens & pool were well maintained.
The staff in reception were very friendly & helpful on advising us what to see & do during our stay. They also gave us a good rate on our stay so obviously best to contact them directly.
There is a restaurant on site which we used once for pizzas which were very good & again staff were very friendly.
It is close to the local shops & cooking facilities in the villa were good with a barbecue.
We would certainly recommend staying here & would definitely return if we visit Agnes Water again.

In hindsight it's obvious that the reviews of this place are divided into two categories: the high ratings from those who stayed in the beach houses or villas, and low ratings from those who stayed in the motel. The "studio" my partner and I stayed in for one night had a mattress with hopelessly sagging springs (leading to a terrible night's sleep), a bathroom door that caught on the frame every time it was opened and a shower door that became so stuck at one point that I almost became trapped in the shower. To add insult to injury, despite being a beachside property and having a pool on premises, this place doesn't provide beach/pool towels and expects guests to pay an extra $5 per towel to rent them! Truly, the only good thing about staying here was the proximity to the beach (100m along a pathway) and the great restaurant downstairs.
Advice to Sandcastles management, if you read this: if you aren't prepared to bring the "studio" rooms up to an acceptable level, you should stop renting them out. And you need to remove the hire fee for beach/pool towels - if you have a problem with them not being returned, it's no worries to hold a deposit, but the fee itself leaves an unnecessary sour taste for your guests.

Thank you for your review. Our upstairs studios are very popular with our budget conscious travellers. Upon booking with us, our guests are reminded to bring their beach towels as we are a beachside resort. The maintenance issues have been dealt with and we thank you for bringing them to our attention.

We stopped in a motel unit. It was on a main road with a lot of traffic noise. The walls were paper thin and we could hear every movement and sound from adjoining rooms and with a dog yapping on one side and young party girls on the other it was very noisy. The motel charges for tea, coffee and sugar beyond a small initial allocation and it is the only hotel or motel out of over 1500 I have stayed in over 100 countries that charged pool towel hire. The room drawers had rubbish from previous occupants and tile floors obviously hadn’t been mopped and in thisCovid era that isn’t acceptable. There is no service during short stays and didn’t appear to be much during change of occupants. This was the sixth week of a trip through western and Far North Queensland staying in 2 to 5 star motels and resorts and was undoubtedly the worst and most expensive. Bed was uncomfortable

Thank you for your review. Do hope that you brought these issues to our attention while staying so that we could resolve them. Our motel is not pet friendly so not sure why you believed there was a yapping dog? Our housekeeping teams work extremely hard and if a room is not up to standard we prefer that our guests bring it to our attention upon arrival. We follow the guidelines of the majority of accommodations that do charge towel hire.

Our experience was a bit of a curate's egg with highs & lows. We stayed in a motel room, which was well furnished, spacious, clean & tidy. The hotel is well located for 1770, the beach & local shops. There is a restaurant at the hotel, which seems not to be part of hotel & we had a good dinner there at a reasonable cost. Three main niggles 1) when we arrive the temperature was 30C plus & we had to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs, which was an unwelcome surprise 2) The hotel makes great play of the proximity of the pool to the bar however we could not use the pool as local swimming lessons were taking place (we were offered the use of a 2nd pool on the complex, so not a show stopper) 3) Access to the wifi was not possible from our room but we could log on without any difficulty downstairs; there seems to have been an issue with a wifi booster. Again not necessarily a show stopper but a frustrating inconvenience. So in summary, a few niggles but in overall terms a good base for both Agnes water & 1770.

We arrived late, however the key and instructions were ready for us and easliy found. The room was outstanding. Spacious, clean, full contained (with BBQ) and 75m from the beach. A short stroll through the grounds and onto a the wide expance of sand and waves.
We booked a table prior to arrival and the team at the restaurant understood we would be late and kept us informed and our resevation was honoured. The menu and wine list was great.
Angnes Waters has many little cafes, take aways and beach side eateries to accomodate all travelers.

We called ahead earlier in the day to get two nights but the area is so popular at the moment that everywhere gets booked out regularly. We were only after hotel room but they could only do one of the nights for us - but to accomodate us for the two nights we got a free upgrade to a beach house. This is excellent accomodation with full size facilities, plenty of room, open spaces, large covered outdoor area but still private. The facilities were in excellent condition. We didn't want to leave. Close to the surf beach, short walk along the beach to Agnes Waters and short drive to 1770. The receptionist lady was except and provided great advice on local activities and great ideas - like watching the sunset over the water while having fish/chips from Rusty Pelican at 1770. We mentioned the LARC lunch tour and within minutes she had us booked and confirmed. Great location, great facilities and great staff.

A friend booked two “Budget Studio” rooms on a 3 for 2 deal so that we could catch up (we are from SA and don’t see them very often). One of the rooms could legitimately be described as a Studio in that it was large and had a lounge/dining area with a table, comfortable chairs and a small kitchen area with its own sink. The other room was just large enough to house a king size bed with about a metre of walking space around it, no chairs, no table, no kitchen sink (it did have a kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave etc). There wasn’t even room to fit a bedside table and reading light on one side of the bed.
Both rooms were clean and bright with comfortable beds and en-suite which is why I gave them 2 stars - but since both rooms were described as ‘Budget Studio’ and charged out at the same price I recommend that anyone intending to stay at Sandcastles 1770 makes sure that they know what they are getting for their money as the management’s description of the rooms is not to be relied upon.

Thanks Chris, rooms are all individually owned and therefore furnishings and designs differ, in room facilities are all the same though. We are very explicit about this on our website, with each unit being individually photographed and displayed. As you made requests for walk in showers and rooms side by side, we did our best to accommodate this. We are glad to hear you enjoyed Agnes water and found the rooms cleanliness to your standards.

The beach house at Sandcastles was simply perfect for our family holiday. Rates were VERY reasonable. The beach house was modern and clean and I cooked most nights in the kitchen that was very well supplied with utensils and equipment. The Webber bbq on the deck was also well used. When we couldn’t be bothered making the two minute walk to the beach the kids jumped in the pool and heated spa. I cannot recommend this accommodation enough.
