This is adjacent to the natural spring. A lovely spot to relax. The restaurant at the facility was good and they had evening entertainment, which we enjoyed very much. We stayed in a cabin, Very small, no thrills. Unfortunately the room was smelly, I suspect it came from the mattress. Pillows and towels were fresh. We used our sleeping bag and left the air conditioner on all night. We enjoyed our time here and would recommend a visit but check the room prior to committing. I did not complain to management.

Stopped here for lunch twice on a recent road trip. After stopping at so many neglected road houses it was a pleasant surprise to walk inside. The first thing I noticed was the well stocked cake fridge and the large amount of hot food options ready to go. There was a large enclosed outdoor eating area. The toilets were around the back of the building and were very modern and clean. The food was lovely and the staff were friendly. Would definitely stop here again.

Mataranka Roadhouse has everything you need for a stop on a long road trip. Friendly staff, great amenities and the best bakery! We have been to many small towns and many bakeries all over Australia and this one is up there with the best! Try the home made sausage roll, it’s huge, or the chilli pie for something spicy.

I recenly stayed at this location and my room was dirty. The room smelled like cheap airfreshner that gave me a headache soon after arriving. I tactfully rasided it with the Manager Wendy who was nothing short of rude and condesending. My reccomandation woulld be to avoid this place.

Responded 23 Oct 2021
Hello I am just reading this now after being in Melbourne from 26th July until 28th September. I am therefore not the person you spoke to in August,. I am extremely sorry this was your experience in my absence. This is a family business and we pride ourselves on having great customer service and good ratings on all social media.. I will be addressing this matter with the likely person, I do hope you give us another chance. Wendy

We were told to go here for breakfast and we certainly were not disappointed. Beautifully cooked and presented and was delicious. Staff were friendly, efficient and made us feel very welcome. What an absolute pleasure to dine here and we will be stopping on our return as it is nice to have a place you can trust. Congratulations to the manager/owner.

We visited the Mataranka Roadhouse for lunch yesterday. We were not really sure what to expect because its been a very long time since we’ve eaten at a Roadhouse. My friend ordered a burger with the lot and I ordered a steak sandwich. The meals came out looking huge and the plate was heaving with really good chips with chicken salt. My girlfriend stated after 3 bites that “this is the best burger she has ever eaten” and after eating half of my steak sandwich couldn’t believe how tender the steak was. We were blown away by the quality of the food. Honestly do yourself a favour and detour to Mataranka for lunch at this amazing BP Roadhouse.

We were booked into to stay at the homestead but the road was closed. It was after 5pm we had been on the road all day traveling with an 8 week old. This spot very graciously allowed us to stay in a cabin with the pup. The cabin was clean and had all we needed for an overnight stay. Comfortable bed, good shower, good aircon and parking available. The young lady we dealt with was helpful and friendly. We did check out Mataranka looking for a place to stay most places looked like they had been shut for sometime. I have stayed at places that made me feel uncomfortable on this road trip with COVID but not this spot.

Booked a cabin through Booking.com for hubby and I to crash at after checking out the incredible thermal springs @ Mataranka. Nice drive from Darwin (366ks). We got exactly what was advertised - clean cabin, latest aircon, new fan, bar fridge. Pleasantly surprised with the comfortable bed, spongy clean pillows, fresh bath towels (took our own towels for the Springs) and spotlessly clean. Power points at one side of the bed ... but we travel with our own power-extension boards anyway to charge phones, cameras etc. Check in at the servo/shop counter. Car park right outside the fenced cabin area. Cuppa tea/coffee and jug in the room but we enjoyed the barista at the shop. Went to Mataranka Homestead for dinner after visiting the Thermal pools there - massive big screen to catch up with footy😜 Grabbed breakfast at a supermarket up the road. On Sunday morning the fish hawker pulled up opposite the Mataranka supermarket and we grabbed some frozen oysters in the shell for lunch later at Edith Falls - defrosted perfectly lol. Check out Mataranka Central for the best homemade steak and onion pies and great conversations with locals. We’re going back for the Bitter springs! So serene and beautiful, pathways are wide and flat, easy to walk the 200m from car park to swimming hole👍🏾 Seriously recommend taking pool noodles, goggles and snorkel - you can buy these at the Homestead and supermarkets but expect to pay remote prices. Also remember protection against afternoon mozzies and underwater camera for the diverse ecosystem. We’ll probably stay here again🌺

If you want clean, fair priced, mosquito free, working air-con, tv, a comfy place to sleep and get a hot shower, then this is your only choice! By comparison, I've stayed in all the accommodation in Mataranka, these features are all at Mataranka Cabins. The owner is great so if you have concerns or questions, speak with her because she'll go out of her way to support you! I can assure, you this is the best place to stay in Mataranka.

If zero stars was an option I'd use it. One of the most appalling customer service experiences I've ever had. We called and paid over the phone shortly before the reception closed so they said they'd leave the key out for us. I very clearly explained that we were four males travelling together. When we arrived we were aggressively approached by the drunk "manager" who made it very clear to us that we werent welcome. After being abused for 5 minutes we calmly got into our room and went straight to sleep after 15 hours of driving. The managers vitriol was like nothing I'd ever experienced. This person is an absolute detriment to the business and i would strongly advise removing her from her role before you get more reviews like this one. Still shocked and appalled at the level of aggression by this person. She took issue with where we parked even though we had made special effort to put our vehicles in spots not blocking access. She also took issue with the fact we were 4 males sharing a cabin with two bunks and a queen bed. Please avoid this place at all costs.

Response from Climber44805066488, Owner at Mataranka Roadhouse
Responded 30 Jan 2020
As the owner of the roadhouse I have flown from Melbourne to address this situation. I am extremely upset that this has occurred in our family run business of over 32 years. As we have privately messaged I am completing a full investigation into this matter. There are no excuses for poor customer service and I apologise for this upfront. From the Managers account of the night she had finished her shift at 8.15pm and you arrived after close. There was a drunk ex staff member that she was managing at the time you arrived. She was not aware of the booking requirements of 4 adults in one room and 4 buses. If so any concerns about the booking requirements could have been addressed at the time of your phone call. As our rooms are more suited to maximum 2 adults, and as you would have noticed it would have been quite tight for four adults, we now offer a two room discount for 3 or 4 adults travelling together. As at today we now offer the second room half price. I’m still conducting the investigation and there will be other changes. I again, like my private messaging, very sorry for this experience at my roadhouse and I hope you will visit again one day. Thank you for the feedback. Kind regards Wendy
