Detailed Reviews
We spent 3 days at Lorella Springs. They are very friendly and helpful. We needed a car battery and one of the staff got one from Borroloola. Thank you very much. Loved all the sights and hot springs. Just thought it was a bit expensive. No toilet paper and a child walked in on my shower as there was only a curtain. We would have stayed longer but too dear.

I have been to Lorella springs many times and have always taken a caravan and
boat with me yes the road can be rough at times but the reward out ways the discomfort of a few bumps along the way, Rhett is a great host and is always willing to help assist guide and even cook for you,. Now with crusty dicks fine out back bakery up and running, hot showers cold beer I suppose I will have to visit again and again.

Wow wow wow. The amount of people complaining about roads going in etc. You are in the middle of absolutely nowhere. And the roads were just fine! So the camping is a huge grassed area with tonnes of free camping options. Not a problem. The roads in the park are definitely 4wd only but a stock 4wd would do most of them. Here’s the problem though - when you get there they spruke to you all these ‘amazing’ locations you can drive to and how many days you will need to stay to see it all. It’s very exciting. Problem is that a fair few of these amazing locations are pretty ordinary. Two tips- don’t go to scary things swamp. There is nothing there except some pin stripes for your car. And don’t go to ship creek late in the dry season otherwise change the P to a T. Also you won’t be able to go past ship creek unless you have a winch and a lift kit. Very boggy. Would I recommend going here? Absolutely if you are in the area. If it is a major detour then think twice but that said you should be nearby anyway seeing the Lost City in Limmen NP. Enjoy!!

There was a big group of us (6 vehicles - adults, teens and kids) that traveled from Darwin with the plan to camp for one week to celebrate a mates 50th birthday.
We secured a spot down the back near the nudist camp (but not in the nudist camp) as we new that we would probably be a bit rowdy sometimes so did not want to disturb others.
We all had an absolute ball and thoroughly enjoyed everything that Lorella had to offer.
The toilets and showers are probably the best (in terms of cleanliness and quality of the water) I have ever used in a camping facility. We were clever enough to take a push bike so when the need arose it was a short push bike ride to the loo!
We did day trips out and about each day and wow there are some truly wonderful places to see. My personal fave was Nannys Retreat, but the kids favorite was definitely the Waterslide. At rosies rapids the kids had a go in the canoe - lots of laughs were provided there.
The thermal springs up near the homestead were great to chill out in at the end of the day and chat with fellow travellers.
The kids loved throwing in the yabby nets and checking them at the end of each day - cooked up on the bbq they were delicious.
Thank you for opening your place up to the public, it is such a beautiful part of the country and we would loved to have stayed longer. Our friends went out to the coast after we left and had the best time out there.
We would love to return at the start of the season next time.

This place was worth every KM we spent driving to get from Melbourne. The roads in are no worse than Savananah Way which was perfectly fine.
The bar and dining area was kept clean, awesome place to unwind and take in the warmth and peace and quiet.
We stayed just down from the homestead in a very neat clean area.
Toilets were all flushing, showers heated with a donkey and nice and hot.
The place is just packed with things to do and experience.
We will be back next year.

The visit was nice however the prices were over the top, yes I understand that it is remote but get real $199 for a motel room, camp sites $20 per person? So a couple is $40 per night $36 for a basic steak and salad??, $3.00 a litre for fuel. Phone $1 per minute, wifi available at a significant cost.
Due to the remote location there is no phone coverage. There is much to do but be prepared for the finance drain.

Response from LorellaSpringsNT, Owner at Lorella Springs Wilderness Park
Responded 24 July 2018
Thank you for your review, and the informative list of prices regarding our property, for future guests to know our fees and charges, therefore sparing us any future similar complaints about the costs of running our one-million-acre of playground. I will just clarify that our station cooked meals are actually $34 and comprise of Rump Steak or Stuffed Chicken, served with chips, coleslaw salad, beetroot and pineapple, and served on our brand new deck under the stars, next to our warm magical spring. I would also like to complete your list by adding that we do offer Wifi internet access though satellite platform, at $15 for one hour, or $25 for a full Day access. Finally, I would like to correct your listing of $20 per person per campsite. Our 24-hour package includes not only your camping fee but also full access to our one million property, all the swimming holes, all the fishing spots, the maps and directions provided by our staff, all the bush walks, the thousand kilometres of 4wd tracks , as well as access to all the tinies, canoes and kayaks available around the property .... - all that for a little $20 per person.

we stayed at Lorella Springs for 1 week June 2015. Hosts Rhett and Marie could not have been more helpful. If you are heading this way make sure you have at least a week to spend here. The property is sensational. Genuine 4wd wonderland. We had campsites to ourselves every night. Rock art everywhere. Great fishing, birdlife galore, plenty of sublime swimming spots. And a lovely bar and restaurant next to a hot spring. We have travelled all around Australia and this is one of our favourite places. Don't miss it.

+1
Thank you Lorella Springs. You have a beautiful property. (A million acres of family owned outback to Gulf country)
Absolutely stunning waterholes, and we even paddled a little boat around on 1. We sat in beautiful warm springs too.
Teeming with wildlife, we also saw black cockatoos and Azure Kingfishers too
The camping can be as social or as remote as you desire, we stayed in the campground and drove around in our 4wd, next time we will remote camp out along the Rosie Creek. They do have some accommodation but we had our own 4wd (Landcruiser) and camper trailer. They have a lovely bar area with a rescued emu named Beep and a peacock too. You can choose to do a heli flight with Nic as well. The communal campfire burns all of the dry season so you can cook up a camp oven meal, or they do meals as well. We only had a couple of nights but we are coming back because we only saw a 0.1 % of this gorgeous place.
Guest amenities
Good clean toilet/shower blocks with a donkey hot water system ( you collect your own firewood while u drive around on your day of adventure)
Bar / camp fire area has plenty of tables and chairs
Roads
The road in from The Savannah Way is a little rough in places - you need to go very slow through a couple of the washouts.
The tracks on the property are 4wd mostly.
Cost
At $20 per adult per night it is a little more expensive than most other camping but keep in mind it's a private property and there are mouths to feed. It cost us $50 per night 2a1c. You can phone them to talk about free accommodation in exchange for your trade skills though, during our stay they needed a mechanic, a builder, a gas fitter - so give Rhett a call to see if he needs your specialised skills.
Drinks at the bar range from $8 for a beer to $13 for a spirit but are $1 off at happy hour. We were happy to pay that as they have to transport everything in so have to cover the fuel costs.
A load of washing or a bag of ice will cost you $10 each.

We stayed at Lorella last month for 4 nights. This was definitely not enough time to spend at this awesome place. We had heard so much about Lorella and were worried it wouldn't live up to our expectations but that was no issue. The camping is great, lots of space and great facilities. Our favourite was the hot springs at the campground every afternoon after a day out exploring the property. Rhett and his team are so friendly and helpful, they are so excited to share Lorella with you and really want you to enjoy yourself. Special thanks to Marie for her assistance during our stay - she was always helpful! Can't fault anything about this place and can't wait to go back but it will definitely be for longer next time.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we do try to make it personal and talk to every guest from arrival, every morning by giving directions, and all the way until the moment you leave - we think it is a good way for people to hear the many Lorella family stories too. Make sure you do visit again as we've already opened some new swimming holes since your visit in April 2015!

Lorella Springs is definitely worth the 30km detour off The Savannah Way. Thermal springs, 4WD tracks, beautiful gorges to swim in, helicopter rides, a fishing camp and a bar all contribute to that "Let's stay another night" feeling. A large number of unpowered camping sites ensure you won't be crowded out. The showers and toilets are basic but clean. Rhett and Marie run a professional business and are two of the nicest people you could meet. We will definitely return one day.

You would need a 4 wheel drive high clearance 4wd. The road from Darwin across to Boorooloola gets graded at the start of the Tourist season. By August the weather is lovely but the road is corrugated. The creek crossings are tidal.
The tracks at Lorella Springs are sandy and there are creek crossings. Quite an adventure.
It is 900 kilometres from Darwin & probably 500 on unmade roads. There are creek crossings, some subject to tides.
Too far for 4 days. Large family groups do go there. I suggest you ring for costings & the closing date as wet season approaches.
My suggestion is to go when you have more time. You can make the trip a worthwhile adventure.
Hi Sue
I took my dog there when camping with my boys. We took him everywhere with us, although had to carry him over some of the rocks at times. We had him on a lead at times and at times he just trotted along beside us. Also, there is plenty of space to camp away from others if you need to.
I have been living in the Top End for over 10 years now and thought the prices there were very reasonable for my 2 sons and I - there are costs in transport and storage in remote areas that are not issues elsewhere.
"You need to be up for an adventure and rough roads. A typical caravan park this is not, which is the whole point. If you can go early"Read full review
