Bridgewater Hall is the oldest home in Burke County, first built in 1781. The property is located along, what is now, the Old Catawba River. The 4,700 – square – foot house sits on nearly five acres of land and now includes the main house, a chapel and honeymoon cottage. Designer Michael Gavin historically preserved and restored Bridgewater Hall creating a breathtaking oasis for small weddings, special events or overnight get-aways.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We found David a perfect match for this perfectly restored B & B. His gift for restoring old renaissance and making the New homey and comfortable is detailed in every room. David operates a side interior decor business. Anyone needed a decor specialist should call for pictures and discuss business with him.

Not only is David an incredible decorator and restorer, he is an amazing host, pianist and gourmet chef. The rooms are comfortable and inviting. Sitting in the high-back chairs in front of the bedroom with a TV and high speed internet, fit our needs perfectly. The outdoor gardens, koi pond, river walk and grounds only add to the mountain ambiance.

The outdoor fire-pit is inviting, the lighting sensational, the amenities exceptional. We have already recommended the home to friends.

We just returned home from our stay at this fantastic inn. David, the owner, is the perfect innkeeper, host and chef. Our breakfasts were amazing to taste and the placesettings were absolutely beautiful. Wine in the parlor in th evenings was a plus, as were the crystal glasses provided for our use. The rooms were quite comfortable. Mostly, however, David is the true meaning of southern hospitality at its finest!

Two of the friendliest and most talented guys I've ever met run this beautifully restored B. and B. From the time I called to inquire about a reservation to the moment my family and I left ---David and Keith made us feel welcome.
When we first arrived they greeted us at the door on a very hot day with cold drinks and with the most adorable little dog you'll ever see ( Sace, ..short for Versace ). My daughters ( age 7 and 10 ) fell in love with the dog instantly. David and Keith are happy to keep the dog locked up but if you are not allergic or otherwise averse the dog Sace is definitely an added bonus.
They have done wonders with the restoration of this home, much of the work done by themselves over the course of years. The attention to detail and care taken is seen all around inside and out. From the clean white outer trim on yellow exterior, the well kept beautiful gardens and the adorned peaks of the roof outside to the immaculate rooms, the restored old hard wood floors, the fabric wall paper in almost every room, and the ornate design tastefully filling every crevice of the inside, the result is a treat for the guest at every turn.

In the front yard they have a river just down past the pretty gazebo where the kids ( and the dog ) played in the water. In the backyard a nice sitting area with an outdoor fireplace. Inside they have decorated with wonderful antique furniture, including two pianos, one of which David was gracious enough to play for us in the evening ( he was very good_
Keith showed us a very detailed hand crafted doll house that he made in his spare time and also played an old vinyl record on an authentic working antique victrola ( my kids had never seen a "record player".

We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast the following morning...pecan pancakes, blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit and the most delicious cold "peach soup"!
We were spending the weekend visiting beautiful Lake James. David and Keith are from the area and are very knowledgeable about what to do and what to avoid and more than glad to share their information.

We would definitely go back again.
Enjoy your stay!

Unfortunately this property is no longer in service. A couple of years ago it was a beautiful place to visit and stay. Maybe some day it will return to its majestic. Looks and a place to stay for awhile.

If you are looking for a place to stay while enjoying Lake James, the Bridgewater Hall B&B is the place. David, the proprietor will take wonderful care of you. The B&B is pleasingly decorated and immediately gives you the feeling that you have found a place to relax at the end of a busy day in, on and around Lake James. You will not be disappointed in the accommodations and the offerings served up for breakfast and evening wine and cheese.

This cute inn just opened and the owner, Michael and his two sons couldn't be friendlier and more accommodating. They made us feel so welcome! We loved our stay! This place would be great for a wedding, anniversary celebration or a holiday party. It would also be great for a family reunion. It's just minutes from downtown Morganton and from Lake James. There are plenty of things to do and see.
