Our Lodge is a historic property located across from the Post Office in the Village of Linville Falls, just 1 mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It has been in our family since it was built in 1937. Our rooms and cottages have been regularly renovated while retaining our historic charm. We have outdoor decks on all rooms and cottages and a large outdoor stone fire pit for gatherings, a wedding venue and a special events building with a large outdoor deck. We are within walking distance of the famous Linville Falls ( 90-foot waterfalls) and Linville Gorge Wilderness Area. There is one full-service restaurant directly across from us on US 221 (within walking distance) and the General Store (also directly across from us on NC 183) which also serves some take-out meal products along with a variety of beer, some groceries, outdoor gear, etc. Our Lodge also has a small gift-shop area where you can purchase T-shirts, jackets, hoodies, men & women's ball caps, jewlery, our specialty soaps and wines of your choice. The stunningly beautiful Linville Falls Winery is only a 3-minute drive from our Lodge on US 221N. They have a beautiful tasting room, outdoor decks and live music almost every weekend - weather permitting.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent a Fall night at this quaint lodge in Linville Falls. The town is tiny but the lodge was ideal for our needs. It is quite close to the beautiful nearby falls and practically adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is also quite clean and quite old-fashioned. It reminded us of the old motels we would stay in on trips in the 70s. Nevertheless, our room was comfortable with a lovely king bed, flat screen TV, and a modern bathroom. They provided a small but adequate selection of prepackaged breakfast items (Lodge guests only) that could be taken back to the room to eat. Alas, also like 70s motels, there was no WiFi. We could have logged on in the office, but after a long day of hiking, we decided that even that short hike was too much. We could survive without being connected to the world. (Of course we did have cell phone signal, so we weren’t TOTALLY in the 70s.)

I also must mention the generous cancellation policy, which is spelled out in the reservation confirmation. We had a problem with our original reservation date and cancelled more than 48 hours ahead, so there was no problem changing to a better date later in the month (subject to availability). They reply very quickly to emails.

Our only quibble was the soap for the shower--the environmentally friendly clear bar of soap was not enough for two people to take a shower, so we had to supplement it with the bar of hand soap at the sink. The soap did smell nice though!

We've stayed several times at this little gem. The lodge rooms are basic, comfortable, clean and have the essentials (coffee!). The cottages give you more room to spread out and cook your own meals, although there are also two great little restaurants within walking distance, as well as a camp store. Evenings by the fire and watching the stars are lovely in the garden atop this peak just barely off the Blue Ridge. It is a cozy place to get away. If you want to stay wired, this isn't it--when they say internet is spotty, they mean it, and they can't change it due to location. We downloaded some movies ahead of time and had no trouble connecting to the TV to watch them. Wendy is great at taking care of everyone, and the owners are beyond fabulous. My only quibble: all the mirrors are hung too high for anyone under 5'10" to use, but they are perfect if you are 7' tall!

My only complaint is that we only stayed one night! Our travel plans changed and we arrived in the area a day early. Our cabin was not ready and so I booked a room at Linville Falls Lodge because it was affordable and we only needed a bed for the night. This family owned lodge was hands down better than the two hotels we stayed in on our road trip in that were owned by national companies and three times the price. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were very clean, the staff was amazing! The place is just beautiful and quaint. Check in was personal and easy. We received some great tips on hikes and food. I would 100% come back to stay for a full vacation.

A few things: it may have been the day we were there, but the restaurant across the street was not open the morning we were there. It is a bit of a drive to a get to anywhere to eat (meaning our hungry seven year old was hangry by the time we ate). The rooms are not air conditioned which did not bother us as it was a cool night, but just be aware.

We had a king room facing the road. When we first walked in we were hit with a musty smell. The room was very small with dark wood paneled walls and very poor lighting. The curtains held a smell of smoke, as people smoke right outside the doors. The bathroom had decent lighting, but no counter space to put your toothbrush, toilettries on. The bed was too hard for my liking, and the heater was noisy - either the room was too hot with it on, or too cold with it off... it's a shame because the outside looks very nice and Wendy, who checked us in was very nice. We would have left if not for the strict no refund policy - I guess that's why they have it. needs updated decorating, better lighting and the source of the smell resolved.

Response from brhuskins, Owner at Linville Falls Lodge & Cottages
Responded 8 Jan 2020
Hello Jo-Ann, Thank you for letting us know that you were less than happy at our Lodge. Our Lodge is a historic property, so it is not large spacious rooms. We do not allow smoking in our rooms and I am sorry if someone was smoking outside your room. It is hard to control that from a management standpoint, but I certainly wish we could! We will take your suggestions seriously and try to improve on the lighting in the room and provide a better space to put toiletries. We will also check the heater to see why it would have been noisy. I am very sorry that happened. I wish you would have let Wendy know so that she could have dealt with the problem or refunded your money if she could not repair the heater. I spoke with her and she said you never indicated that you were not pleased with your accommodations or that you had any problems. If you travel our way again please let us know and we will be happy to provide you with a free night's lodging if we have availability. We require a non-refundable deposit because we are not a large hotel in a city where you can quickly rent a room off the off if someone does not show up for their reservation....not because we have problems like this with our guests, because we don't. This business has been in our family since it was built and we strive to provide a safe, comfortable place to visit our beautiful mountains. Again, we appreciate your input and will use it constructively to correct the problems and hopefully we will see you again sometime!

Anytime we come to visit this area, we make it a habit to stay here. This place sits in a nice location, close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, it's always clean and inviting and we are always made to feel welcome here. They have a nice selection of breakfast items in the little nook area to start your morning. The beds/pillows are very comfortable, and Wendy is wonderful. Only disappointment this time was that we weren't staying longer.

David, the owner was extremely gracious even though we were coming in at 10:20pm. We reserved a room, but he gave us a cottage with a private deck for the same price. His voice sounds Ray Wylie Hubbard, one of my favorite singer songwriters so maybe they are from the same neck of the woods. Good sense of humor, too, he made us feel comfortable almost immediately, even though we had had a long drive and were really tired. If you get one of the cottages bring something to cook so you can eat it out on your private porch in the am, and relax, and listen to the sounds of the birds. He also gave invaluable advice about our visit to the falls which we were really grateful for. My advice is bring lunch so you can eat something before you make the climb back up the hill. This is for the nearby park with waterfalls, not the cabin. Anyway - stay there it is really nice and quite reasonably priced. Beautiful grounds, too.

Great place to stay, nice room and clean bathroom, loved the wrap around porch especially to enjoy the storm saturday afternoon. The staff is friendly and courteous. Will stay again for sure.
Only two areas need a little improvement, the tv channel selection and the wifi needs a booster, other than that you are going to love the place and the location.

Hubby and I stayed in the cutest little cottage here...older, but clean and decorated nicely. The location was perfect since it’s close to both the falls and the pretty overlooks on the parkway. The grounds are a nature lovers delight, butterflies, birds, and blooms everywhere. Great food right across the street that you can take out and eat on your cottage porch or on the comfy porch of the lodge. Shout out to Wendy, a knowledgeable and friendly host!

Great people. Very clean. All rooms have a couple of rocking chairs on the porch right outside your door with a wonderful deck at the end of the building. The ground are beautiful and there is a choice of eating places within 50 yards (staffing shortages have caused them to reduce their hours, however). Comfortable beds. Be aware that the lodge was constructed decades ago and, like normal in that era, the rooms and bathrooms are small and the walls a bit thin. Wifi generally won't work in the rooms but does on the porch. TVs have DirecTV with a huge range of channels. Very convenient location to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Eating breakfast on the deck makes it all worthwhile!

The wall heater woke us up every time it cycled on during the night. Owners provided a space heater which was not adequate to keep both the bathroom and bedroom warm. Bathroom and shower were tiny. Shower was so small that I was barely able to bend over in it to shave my legs.
The bed was comfortable but everything else about the accommodation was so sub par that we left a day early and walked away from the last night’s room charge. We won’t be back.
