Detailed Reviews
Being a pet friendly hotel with an indoor pool, this hotel was a perfect fit for our short trip to the area.
The hotel's lobby was very clean, somewhat dated; however, I greatly enjoy the older architecture and design so that wasnt an issue for us.
Our room was clean, nothing amiss, no issues. Traffic outside wasnt much of an issue as we stayed during the week.
Parking was plentiful. We were able to park near the closest entrance to access our room, with ease of taking our dogs out for potty breaks in a grassy area of the parking lot.
Our 2 small dogs enjoyed being able to travel and spend much time with us, even sitting poolside while our children swam.
The staff were pleasant and kind. Spanish speaking maid. Being bilingual, I was able to communicate with her. She was kind, answered brief questions and was very helpful.
Our waitress at breakfast was very sweet and a pleasure! She made great recommendations on the breakfast and was helpful.
Front desk staff were very accommodating. Provided extra pool towels, obtained additional stock in back that were sold out on the shelf from their little market/pantry area so we could purchase and our needs met. They even mailed our child's bathing suit she mistakenly left hanging in a closet!
We greatly enjoyed our stay and look forward to doing so again in the future. Thank you all for a great experience! We appreciate your hospitality very much

Property obviously understaffed. Restaurant not open. They charged $2 for a bag breakfast which should have been complimentary. Room not adequately supplied. No maid service unless requested. I discussed all of this with the manager after I got home and he was very helpful. Agreed that breakfast bags should be complimentary.
I guess I was a little jaded going in because of the name of the Hotel, I expected excellence.

Response from IHG Service, Owner at Crowne Plaza Hickory, an IHG hotel
Responded 30 May 2021
Hi BillyMike52, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Due to the mandates in place for the prevention of the COVID-19, we've modified a few of our services to keep everyone safe. It is in my dismay to learn that we missed the mark in ensuring the level of convenience and satisfaction every guest should expect from an IHG Hotels & Resorts property. I am sorry you found our breakfast services disappointing and our staff lacking. I have shared your feedback with our hotel management and I'm confident that this will be discussed with our team. We always challenge ourselves to be better and I know that our local team will address the issues that require improvement. It was a pleasure once again to host your visit and we look forward to having the opportunity to restore your confidence in our hotel. All the best, Alice P Case Manager IHGService

Wife and I took a suite as it was her birthday trip. Very nice two rooms as well as two complete baths. Shower water pressure was very good. We were able to get rid of most light, but still some creeped in. Internet download speed measured with Speedtest.net was about 35 Mbps and upload about 25 Mbps.
Make certain to purchase the breakfast when reserving as it was the best breakfast we had our whole trip.

Stay Report - 1/27 to 1/28
Location: The hotel is located on Lenoir Rhyne Blvd just south of I-40 at exit 125. It's also just north of US 70 and one exit east of US 321 which are the major roadways in this area. Nearby are a dozen chain restaurants from fast food to chain sit down places. Downtown Hickory (which is surprisingly pleasant) is 10 minutes away.
Hotel: The hotel is one of the odder Crowne Plazas I've been to. Research shows it was formerly a Holiday Inn Select that was rebranded in 2008. The main building is two stories and has a large lobby with a bar and restaurant which are currently closed. There's a small pantry which sells snacks and candy but no hot food or drinks are available. The indoor pool and fitness center are open. In addition to the main building there are several outbuildings some of which have exterior entrances to the rooms. There is plenty of parking which is good.
Check In:Â The agent on duty was friendly and thanked me for being Spire and gave me my welcome amenity points.
Room: In a word: bad. Where to start? How about with the scuffed and worn furniture in the bedroom and bathroom, then I'll move to the holes in the carpet, the garbage that was left in the room and finish up at the broken desk lamp. The room clearly hasn't been refreshed since the takeover in 2008. There are no outlets near the bed and the bathroom is tiny. It's well below Crowne Plaza standards.
The price for this place is right: it was $88 vs. $138 at the nearby Courtyard, but know what you're getting into. It's REALLY dated and subpar.

I typically don’t write bad reviews, but this was the worst experience I have had at a hotel in my entire life, and I travel a lot. We booked and prepaid for a room through our capital one travel card, like we often do, several weeks ago. When we got to the hotel after driving 4 hours with a sleeping 3 year old in the car, I went to check in and was told they had overbooked the hotel and because we were checking in late they had no rooms left for us. I was given zero help or solutions aside from being given a managers number and extension to call in the morning. I didn’t even get my card refunded, I was just given more excuses about how I needed to reach out to capital one to have them work on it. We were basically forced to sit in the parking lot at 1130 at night and try desperately to find a last minute room when everything close by was completely sold out. We had to book a place that was 35 minutes away and twice the price. Long story short, because of this hotel groups faulty booking system and complete lack of customer service, I will never be booking at an IHG property again.

We have stayed at this hotel twice before. Both times were great. This time it is horrible. We were put in a ground floor room when we were told that, although we couldn’t be guarantee the same room we had before, we would be in the general area which was an upper floor. I am very claustrophobic and needed a room where I could see out. As the room is on the bottom floor it is dark and claustrophobic. The room is filthy. There is a dead bug stuck to the curtain. It smells so strongly of stale smoke that I actually threw up. A woman name Devon checked us in. She was unwilling to try to help us. When I called and told her how badly the room smelled of cigarettes, she didn’t respond at all. We have stayed at the Crown Plaza in Ventura, Ca and Pensacola, FL. Never like this and never again.

I researched this hotel, it is rated number 1 on this site. It was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I reserved rooms for my entire team (12) . Everyone had the same comments, dirty, unkempt, peeling wall paper, trashy on the outside with cigarette butts sitting there in plain site for 3 days. I am aware of the workforce shortage but there were cobwebs on my ceiling. The rooms were unacceptable on every level.

Nice but noisy
This is second visit. The first visit was great. Had a room on lower side. Clean. Comfy. And staff helpful
This visit due to accident that week we needed a handicapp accessibile room. The room with shower was taken so had to get room next to Hwy 70. The traffic on a weekend goes to waaaay late in the nite and motorcycles galore. Noisy.
Room clean. Bed comfy. Staff great. Just noise!!!!!!!
Note to hotel - need more handicap accessible rooms with showers. Tub units are not the best

I must say the Crown Plaza Hickory is a wonder stay. The staff is wonderful, but I must say Jackie is doing an excellent job. I noticed the she is Technically and Knowledgeable at her duties and Responsibilities. As a business client I’ve meet a lot of hotel staff that fumbles a lot, but since my stay I noticed she’s a all around Professional. Over my months of being at the hotel I noticed the passion she has in training her subordinates and even her peers. I can only she has a wonderful and Excellent Leader Traits, and isn’t afraid to excel in her position.
Very quick to react to any problems and not afraid to address any short coming issues. A place to bring my 60 plus workers to be comfortable for work during our extended stay anytime in the near future.

From the minute I walked into the hotel I felt at home. Don McGhee in particular, along with the rest of his staff made the weekend for our group event fabulous. They went out of their way to accommodate some special requests that we had.
The breakfast buffet was an incredible bargain with everything that was included. I asked if they had chicken sausage and they were more than happy to accommodate me.
I watched Don running around from morning till late at night. Making sure every detail was taken care of. I finally told him he really needed to get home since he said he was going to be here first thing in the morning. This went on for 2 days straight.
I've been to a lot of events and I know the difference that an amazing hotel staff makes in the experience we have. This one was top notch.
