What it doesn't have: air conditioning, a modern feel, etc. What it does have: the feeling of being in a rustic, homey lodge with a grand fireplace and warm company. We've stayed here for 3 years in a row and love being greeted by the friendly staff and Punkin the cat. The rooms are clean and comfortable--we put a fan...

I love old lodges like this. Nestled in the woods with creaking floors, warmly lit wood walls, and the smell of fireplace smoke and pine. The place has been completely preserved; very little has changed here in the decades since it was built. And I should know: I stayed here when I was 5 and 6 years old!!! If that's...

If you are looking for a modern upscale hotel, you will probably want to pass up the Fryemont Inn in Bryson City, NC. But, if you want to enjoy a rustic hotel in the Smokie Mountains, this may be the place for you. The Fryemont Inn is nearing 100 years old, and it features amenities of a bygone era. It...

Loved the feel of this big old wooden hotel. You can feel the history of the place, it is not trying to be retro, it is genuine! Sitting out on the front porch overlooking Bryson City in a rocker supping a cold beer, what could be a better to start to your evening. The hotel has a great and well...

We chose this hotel because of its location and its restaurant. Both lived up to expectations We had a room at the front which was large and comfortable though there was not aircon. The windows all opened and there were good insect screens. The bathroom was small and the shower was erratic and one morning I had a cold shower!...

First, I have to say that I didn't read the website carefully. If I had, I would have seen that there is no air conditioning in the rooms in the main building. Completely my fault. Having said that, it could be delightful if the weather cooperates. In 90+ days and 70 nights of summer, it was a pretty miserable sleep....

On the hillside overlooking the town with the Smokies in the background is the Inn the like of which you can remember from your childhood. An interesting lobby has a sitting porch with a view and a pleasant, informative Innkeeper. We did not need the benefit of the Volkswagon sized fireplace, though in June it was cool at night which...

This hotel harkens back to the 20s and 30s. The furnishings in the rooms will send you back in time. Though we were only there for dinner, we did walk past some of the rooms whose doors were open and ready for new guests. We went to the bar for some wine, but the terrific bartender, "Sarge", quickly had our...

Charming and rustic lodge. Beautiful view of Bryson city from the Balcony in the lobby area. Wonderful Restaurant where dinner and breakfast come with the price of your room! A great value and a nice experience. If you want a modern room with TV and such do not stay in main lodge. The main rooms are sweet and old fashioned....

Thoroughly enjoyed the Fryemont's lodge for a quick visit to the mountains. Situated with a view above Bryson City and convenient to town, the 1920's era lodge sits under tree cover and remains cooler. The overnight temperatures were in the 50's and we never missed the air conditioning. The most amazing thing happened in the absence of television in the...
