Chetola Resort has garnered attention for its historical charm and well-maintained cleanliness, with guests consistently praising the pristine grounds and rooms. The staff's friendliness and exceptional service, including thoughtful touches like wine socials, often receive commendation, though some guests have encountered slower service. While the atmosphere is described as eclectic, with live music enhancing the ambiance, opinions on decor range from beautifully appointed to less appealing.
The rooms, though charming, have drawn criticism regarding size and noise levels. Additionally, the value proposition is a point of contention among visitors, as some feel the resort is overpriced given the amenities provided.

What a beautiful resort, the best in Blowing Rock for sure. My experience at Chetola has been wonderful. The views are spectacular, the associates are engaging and friendly; everyone clearly enjoys what they do. I stayed here on business for the week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The grounds are kept clean and manicured so an early morning walk or sunset stroll was picturesque. Timberlake's Restaurant was fun, with either jazz or some type of acoustic live music most evenings. The food experience was really good, everything was beautifully prepared, scratch made, and served with a smile, the crab cakes were excellent, and the wedge salad with housemade blue cheese was my favorite. I hope to be back very soon, only with more time to enjoy the recreational activities. Thank you Team Chetola!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Chetola Lodge. The grounds are lovely and we appreciated the ground floor wing reserved for pets. I thought this arrangement worked out great to accommodate pet families as well as those who would rather not be around pets. Housekeeping must use a strong cleaning agent to neutralize pet smells which had a bit of an unpleasant odor, but our noses adapted quickly. I have to say, I could see housekeeping cleaning pet rooms as people checked out and they were meticulous and very thorough - actually, housekeeping staff was also incredibly pleasant and welcoming as we exchanged pleasantries each morning. I found the staff at reception and the restaurant to be pleasant and helpful. We were a bit disappointed in the Timberlake restaurant but perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes. However, the tomato and Gouda soup was excellent. Our pet friendly room was updated, large and comfortable and we enjoyed the balcony overlooking the lake. There’s a short pathway around the lake which we walked every morning, but there are so many great hikes within a few minutes of the resort. An ideal location not too far from the center of blowing rock and great trails within 8-10 minutes drive. We would definitely return.

Chetola Lodge has absolutely beautiful grounds which makes this a lovely stay when you’re in Blowing Rock. There is a guardhouse at the entrance to prevent outsiders from taking advantage of the lake and surroundings, and to ensure the guests’ safety, which was much appreciated. As you approach the lodge on the curving drive the beauty of the acreage immediately makes you happy about your lodging choice. (I never tired of this view!) There are a few parking spaces adjacent to the lodge steps where you can park during check-in. When I first saw them I was concerned about having to get our luggage up to the lodge but learned I was needlessly worried. Check-in was easy and quick. The desk clerk gave us a parking pass, information about the lodge and explained that we could drive to the back of the lodge to access the 2nd floor at ground level where carts were available. Unloading was very easy as a result. Our room was quite spacious, clean and comfortable but nothing special. A fridge and microwave were included which was a plus. The bathroom was large but the vanity area was too small and had limited space for toiletries. There was no bathtub but a wonderful large shower with loads of hot water which we enjoyed. Two negatives in our room: our window had a parking lot view accompanied by parking lot noise (my advice is to pay extra for a front room overlooking the lake) and the second issue was noise from our neighbors’ room. We could hear every word they uttered and they were not being loud. I think the issue was the adjoining door but it made conversation in our room uncomfortable since we knew our neighbors could also hear us. At night we turned on our sound app to drown out noise and had no problem sleeping. The restaurant, gift shop and lobby were easily reached by an interior staircase or elevator. We did not eat lunch or dinner but had several breakfasts which were quite tasty. There are walking paths on the property and if the weather is nice you can also walk to the main shopping area in Blowing Rock in about 15 minutes. If you drive you can be there in less than 5 minutes so the location is extremely convenient. Try StoriesStreet Grill, Sixpence Pub and Moon Thai. The Outlets are about 5 minutes away and Boone is a very short drive, maybe 15 minutes depending on traffic. The Blowing Rock Museum is definitely worth a visit and if you want some exercise you can access the Glen Burney trail to waterfalls right from downtown Blowing Rock. I highly recommend this lodge but also recommend a sound app for a sound night’s sleep.

Unfortunate. My husband and I said this word many times. I agree with another reviewer who said the front desk ladies were unfriendly. Rude would be the word I would use. They need serious customer experience training asap. The only thing I appreciated about the resort was the historic nature of the building and historic photos around the property. The grounds are spectacular and I would say much more attention was given to the grounds than the inside of the property.
We were given a handicapped room, when I inquired at the desk to be moved, the kind gentleman tried to help but then three other ladies at the desk watched our interaction and simply said there were no other rooms with two queens or a king. All other rooms were queen bed only. I walked away thinking either they were not being truthful or the resort needs to change the bed configuration. Unfortunate.
Then we decided to go to the pub…, as we walked from the inn, we saw furniture and cleaning supplies just sitting in the hallway. No signs to the pub and finally a stressed looking employee pointed us to the bar. Bar back was dirty. Got the feeling they didn’t have enough help. No smiles, just stress.
Our handicapped room looked nothing like the website’s photos. Ours had green painted walls, no decor, looked like an institution room. Beware room 205. The soap ledge in shower still had hoops of soap in it from previous stay. Tiny sink and counter. I know it was an ADA room but it could have been decorated and cleaned.
We were part of a dinner group of 17. Our server tried hard, we needed two people for a group that size. We were waiting three hours to finally eat. Unfortunate.
The hallways and pretty much everything need a serious refresh, especially when paying over $350 per night. Just because you’re inBlowing Rock doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care of your property or your guests.

Dear Ann, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your comments, while we were very happy to hear that you thought the grounds were spectacular we were very sorry to read that we were unable to meet your expectations in other areas. The room that you booked was an accessible room, we are sorry if that was not made clear to you at the time of booking, but all of our accessible rooms offer the same amenities as the other rooms, we just have additional hand rails and a slightly different configuration. We are sorry that this did not meet your needs and would have been happy to move you if we had any other options but unfortunately we were fully booked and there was nothing else available. We were also sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the restaurant. The original booking came in as a table for 14, which is the maximum that we allow in the restaurant to make sure that all of the other guests as well as the party have an enjoyable experience. We learned on the day of your dinner that it was actually a wedding reception and that there would be 19 people. There was one dedicated server for your table, 2 assistance managers and 2 food runners. We are sorry that the food took longer to come out than you would have hoped but we did explain this would be the case especially since this was a wedding with some of the usual wedding formalities. We normally ask that any parties over 14 people use a private banquet room so that we can offer the level of service that we pride ourselves upon to the people attending the event and to the other guests in the restaurant. We would like to thank you for taking the time to give us your constructive feedback and we will make sure that it is passed on to all of our team to ensure that we can learn from your experience.

We stayed at Chetola “resort “ in November 2023 in the Bob Timberlake Inn. There were a few things that were less than perfect, due mostly to being understaffed. However, even with those issues and nightly rates were nearly $400.00 a night, we felt it was worth it because of the amenities that were included giving Chetola the status of “resort”. Those amenities were breakfast in our rooms, warm cookies in the evening brought to our room, a pantry for inn guests that included, bottled water, cups of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, coffee and tea pods, and a very nice wine & cheese exclusive to Inn guests each afternoon. Incidentally those amenities are still on their website as being part of your stay.
Therefore, we (two couples) decided to return to Chetola and were greatly looking forward to our stay with all these inclusions. As those amenities are still listed on their website to justify the $400 price tag per night and no one told us differently when the reservations were made, we were terribly disappointed to learn upon check in that every single one of those amenities had been deleted. Naturally we were very upset as we felt we had been robbed. Mind you the price didn’t go down. We expressed our unhappiness to staff as to how unfair that was to their guests. Never did anyone in my party yell, scream or use any type of foul language to anyone.
After reaching out to guest services there comments were as if they could care less if we returned or not and gave us a lot of unjustified reasons that the amenities had been removed. In fact they turned it around on us, the guest that our attitude was the issue.
My comment to front desk was that there was absolutely NO advantage to paying $400 per night to stay at Chetola. (I guess that was rude on my part, but true). It certainly wasn’t as rude as them charging for amenities not received. We could have stayed at Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express for just as nice a room and full breakfast for $200 per night. As if our experience wasn’t bad enough, guest services had an attitude!
We love staying at all inclusive resorts but Chetola is no longer a resort and is falsely advertising. We will never go back.

I used to feel like the high prices at Chetola were partially justified. We always stayed in the Timberlake Inn, we had a wine social, free breakfast, great historic room with balconey overlooking the lake, private entrance to the restaurant and a pantry with drinks and ice cream. It was really a great setup. We would go every year, my wife would give me a gift card to Chetola every Christmas. This year I was trying to book the same room. Couldnt do it, now you get what you get, they said maybe you can request one but only with special provisions. This just seemed like a bad deal especially since the price is the same or higher. On top of that they stopped the free breakfast, the wine social and removed the pantry. New ownership going cheap. I had already booked my room guessing and hoping it was in the inn, I had to call to find out that it wasnt. I cancelled my room and hope to get the money back for the gift card. It was already not a good value but this put it over the top. I rented an airbnb at the reserve on top of Sugar Mtn. For less than half that after I cancelled. The reserve is much nicer, Chetola is no longer a resort and appears to be a money grab by whatever greedy corporation bought it. They have no idea what they have done.

U7937FAmarkf, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your recent experience did not meet your expectations. We understand your disappointment with the changes that have occurred since the new ownership took over, especially regarding the loss of some of the amenities you enjoyed in the past. While we understand the changes may not have aligned with what you’ve previously enjoyed, we hope you’ll consider visiting again in the future to experience the improvements we’ve made. We stayed at Chetola with our dog...thankyou to Mgmt you are pet friendly. We arrived at the height of a crazy rain storm..Front Desk was very friendly maps are provided for the property. we also received a cute doggie bag at checkin..its the little things that add up to a great time, despite the weather. The dog rms have a balcony that is large and covered. It overlooked the lake. Our dog loved it..lol...the swans, ducks etc...a small fridge and microwave. The Housekeeping staff was stellar. All staff was very friendly. The property...it was nice to have a lot of area around the Lake to walk our dog..it was also close to Moses Cone and Bass Lake. This is quite a pricey place to stay..but we were very happy. The one thing that was not so great was the Timberlake Restaurant...we had to do takeout because of weather and having our dog..the menu is odd..no chicken or pork option..and way over the top pricing for kind of odd dishes. I wish they would add a nice chicken dish to the menu...The second thing is I wish the hotel continued the engineered flooring to the outside balcony, its carpeted and gets rained on and dog hair abounded..why not put the nice flooring inside the room onto the balcony floor, so much easier to clean. Had great time for us and our dog...but please add a chicken dish to menu and get rid of outdoor balcony carpeting. Great stay !

We were very disappointed in our stay at Chetola. They do not have their systems in place to effectively run the inn and yet they are charging as if they are a luxury property. We were placed in a very small, musty room on the first floor. We were not able to get lunch on Sunday at 1pm b/c they did not have the capacity to serve us. They attempted to charge over $500 for our room when we booked at $240 and even that was entirely unreasonable for what we experienced. Clearly, we will not stay at Chetola again.

This resort has the most incredible staff and great amenities. We had snow for several days and the maintenance crew was out, keeping all the roads clear and putting salt on the steps. Our grandchildren love sledding on the hill, and going to the pool. The restaurant and pub stayed open during the bad weather, and were almost the only place we could go for a meal.

At first glance, on arrival, the grounds are beautiful, but that's where it ends. For approximately $400/ nt, we had a room overlooking the parking lot, so be aware. The 3rd floor room decor was hideous. Very overdone with the wood theme, mixed with modern cheap ikea-like elements, and terrible wall murals. Why? I get the rustic theme, but this is just too much! When trying to secure a reservation for the restaurant, the resy app showed no availability, but when we went to the restaurant, it was empty. Any time we asked a staff member a question about a problem, they responded with, "we are greatly understaffed." How is that an appropriate answer when charging the $400 pricing? I did hear, around the campfire that was never lit by the staff, but instead by a guest, they have recently changed ownership, and most of the original staff was let going, leaving the new staff floundering, to put it mildly. The vibe of this place is weird and underwhelming, feeling empty and unorganized. For these prices I expect much better. Beware.
