We visited here just as the NZ lockdown was put into place. Fortunately, even though two of the hotels on our itinerary had closed without informing us, leaving us ‘homeless’ for four days, Paul and Kate were able to offer us early access to our room - it was well appreciated! So after a last-minute 6+ hour drive from Napier, to beat the Level 4 lockdown, we arrived late in the evening to find our room ready and waiting.

The top-floor room we used was in a super location, with a sea view, and access direct to the beach from the garden. It was equipped with everything we needed, such as a kitchenette and comfortable bed, and was within easy walking distance of the town.

Paul and Kate are most accommodating hosts, and despite the fact that all the local attractions were closed, due to the COVID virus, we were able to walk locally and visit the local supermarkets, which were well stocked.

Our NZ trip was sadly curtailed by the virus, but we have unfinished business here, and will be back.

I have stayed with my husband and 2 year old and we had a great one night stay! The views over the bay are amazing and all 4 units have frontal sea views. There is a nice grass area between units and the beach where you can chill out, play on the trampoline, have a wine in the afternoon or a coffee to enjoy the sunrise, have a bbq or watch the stars from the hot tub outside at night. Free kayaks for use as well! The units are refurbished, comfortable shower and beds, a kitchenette with everything you need and a heater to keep you warm in Winter. There is no noise from the road and the resort is located a 5 min drive from town. We will definitely return and would recommend it to anybody going to Whitianga.

I had to travel to Whitianga for work. Got booked into the Beachfront Resort. After an easy check in with help from Paul, I went to my room - ground floor Room 3. What a lovely room. walking in through the door, on the left was two single beds, on the right was the bathroom, (shower, toilet & Hand basin) Very very clean and tidy

walking on through - in front of you is the view out the ranch sliders through the section to the beach front and waves etc.

In this loungette was the kitchen, a dining table, a couch and a King size bed.
The room was clean and tidy. The kitchenette was well stocked and there was Long Life milk in the fridge. There was a good variety of tea, coffee & filter coffee with a filter jug.

Outside was a spa pool - but it was too cold and wet to go out and enjoy although I did like listening to the wave crashing

the cleanliness of the place was very evident. The bed was super comfy. Couldnt have asked for a better place to stay

We had a wonderful stay at Beachfront resort. We had a small apartment that accommodated 3 adults, with one bathroom. The kitchen was very well appointed, great pots and pans, excellent for those wishing to cook. This place is right on the beach, you can walk along the beach all the way to town. It’s very peaceful with a beautiful view. They also provide kayaks to use. The town itself has nice shops and restaurants, and this location is a great base for getting to other points of interest in the Coromandel. The owners are fabulous, very friendly and helpful. We are sorry we couldn’t stay longer!

There is just nothing I can fault about the Beachfront Resort. I loved it all. Paul was a very gracious host and showed us around the big apartment. The balcony was great with superb views. Could sit there all day. Bed room great, fab bathroom and a big kitchen. Every utensil and cutlery you could want was laid out. The garden was lovely. BBQ area with benches, bar, hot tub and loads of towels for outside. A few feet away was the unspoilt beach where the water was so shallow for those not too keen on swimming. Gold star for everything!

This was one of the more expensive places to stay in the area, so I did have some expectations and made some assumptions with regard to the amenities that were unfortunately lacking. I could not fault the location or the friendliness of the staff. The rooms were clean, and looked like they have been recently renovated, however for the price and when comparing other accommodation available, I would have expected at a minimum usb chargers, safe for valuables, airconditioner/heat pump, heated towel rail and a shower that does not fluctuate in temperature. The shower was so bad that we could not stand under it for any decent length of time, with it fluctuating between scolding hot or freezing cold. We did mention it to the manager who was very apologetic and hopefully it is fixed for the next guests. Overall enjoyed our stay, but for the price I would say average.

We stayed for 3 nights in the 2 bed unit (not with seaview) We booked this specifically as my friend wanted a hot pool or spa, but when we arrived we were informed that the motor had broken down, so that was very disappointing. Apart from that the unit was spotless, water pressure excellent and it contained everything that one could need for a short stay. I feel some kind of compensation could have been offered, however the owners were away so it was being managed by someone else, who was very apologetic regarding the spa and did contact the technician trying to get him there earlier, but without success. It's right on the beach with easy access so that was wonderful!

We have been travelling throughout New Zealand on a 5 week tour. This was the last stop on our tour and in my view it was the best of the self catering style accommodation that we encountered. As a bonus it had a view from our first floor balcony to die for.
On the balcony 3 people can eat meals and share this idyllic setting. There is a main bedroom and an attached kitchen and dining area with a separate second bedroom isolated by a sliding door. The modern bathroom with walk in shower will be suitable for everyone that can climb a few stairs to the first floor apartments. There are also 3 ground floor apartments which will appeal to those who are perhaps less mobile. My wife thought the appliances and kitchen implements crockery and cutlery were very comprehensive and better than other places we have been to in NZ and other European countries. After driving long distances, feeling tired first appearances can often influence one’s impressions like hauling luggage up the steps will be forgotten when you see the view that awaits you from the balcony.
The agent who booked the beach front resort for us described it as “simple” probably because there is very little else provided by staff. There is no room servicing during a stay. New towels can be requested and there is an on-site spa pool, barbecue , sun loungers and coin op laundry for guests to use. The reception staff are very keen and helpful if any guest should need any assistance . We think that’s a great way to run this kind of accommodation. The township of Whitianga is about a 35 minute walk along the beach path or 5 minutes in the car. There are two supermarkets and a good selection of restaurants and bars in Whitianga . We ate out and in during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed feeling the beachfront resort exhibits including the rhythmic sound of small waves running up the beach.
Please believe that the views are much better than those we snapped with our i phones.

Stayed for 3 nights. Initially a little disappointed at the size of the unit but after settling in, it was perfect. It’s small but very clean and the staff are super friendly. Kitchen is one of the best appointed we have experienced with sharp knives, something rarely found. Beds were comfy and they had lots of beach toys to enjoy the gorgeous beach right outside your door. We had a ground floor unit and we worried is would be too open but people were very respectful and we didn’t feel like we were being watched. No AC in the unit but it cools down nicely in the evening and we had a good fan to circulate the air. We didn’t use the spa but it seemed very popular with the other guests. Obviously a popular choice as it was full the entire stay. We would definitely return and would highly recommend.

The location was super close to town and beautiful being on the waterfront, the beach only metres away! The room was clean and tidy and the owners were lovely to deal with. The spa pool was so lovely and they had kayaks on site too. We were especially impressed with the Unlimited WIFI, instead of the usual "a hour a day" or "pay $X for 60mins" at other accommodation that we have stayed at. We would definitely recommend. We had such a lovely stay.

We are a family of 3 adults and 2 teenagers. Do you have any apartment which can accommodate us?
Answer from Sandy_Feet_NZ

Hi Sandra P. RabnDazz is quite right. Most Beachfront Units have the configuration King/Queen and two singles. Some also have a sofabed, and can accommodate a 5th guest. This works well enough for families with 3 smaller children, but is very tight living for 5 adult sized people. The best option for your family would be the King Beachfront Unit which is a larger suite overall. We can add a rollaway bed for the 5th person.

Hi , Average temperatures here in December range from a low of 15C to a high of 22C. This is our early summer and the weather can be quite variable, but not usually particularly hot at night. In NZ generally A/C is common in many of the large hotels but not so much in smaller properties and private homes. When it is hot at night (Feb) we prefer to sleep with the windows open and enjoy the sea breeze and sound of the waves. :) regards Kate

Hi Melanie, Kayaks are available for guests to use throughout daylight hours each day, within the boundaries of safe weather conditions of course. Beachfront Units are quieter than the Beachside Unit which is closest to the road. Beachfront Resort is the only accommodation in Whitianga on the beach side of the road. All the Beachfront Units are well off the road and living areas open out to a balcony or patio with views across the garden to the beach and bay. So there is no traffic between your room and the view, and no road noise. You can hear the waves though! Feel free to email me directly if you have any further questions. Regards, Kate from Beachfront Resort
