Detailed Reviews
We’ve been coming to Kalbarri for years and this is the first time staying at the Riverfront budget units. We stayed in unit 3.
The location is perfect, right across from Chinamans and close to the pubs and restaurants.
They are not fancy but perfectly adequate. We were there over Christmas and utilised the oven for cooking our Christmas food, the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, microwave, fridge and sink.
The bathroom could do with a bit of TLC but it served its purpose.
The main bedroom had a double bed which wasn’t the comfiest but we managed to sleep well!
The other bedroom had 2 sets of bunks so would be perfect for kids!
TV was provided so we could watch the Boxing Day test while eating breakfast. The lounges provided were comfy but were vinyl so put a blanket down to avoid sticking to the seat :-)
Kitchen table was situated at the front window giving us lovely views of the river and ocean while eating.
The only down side was the pink and grey galahs nesting in the trees which showered our car with some nice little presents but a quick wash and the car was back to normal.
There was shade out the front of the unit from about 4pm so maybe take a gazebo if you want to enjoy the views from the outside of the unit during the day.
The caretakers were very obliging and prompt if there was an issue. There is a coin operated washing machine at the back of the complex (3 x $1 coins required) and it wasn’t working and took our coins. The caretakers came down and fixed the issue and refunded the money.
Highly recommend this place for families. Value for money for the budget conscious! It’s not the Ritz but you won’t be disappointed!

Our family of 5 stayed at the Riverfront Budget Units for 8 days over school holidays and it was fantastic. Very simple, clean units (nothing fancy!) but perfect for that "shack on the beach" style holiday. The location is directly across from Chinaman's beach, so close the kids (10 and 8) could go over by themselves whilst we watched them across the road.Perfect spot for fishing and kayaking, Just 100 metres or so from the bakery, shops, cafes. and a 5 minute drive to the coastal gorges, Bird Park, and all the other sights at Kalbarri. Laundry out the back, kitchen and BBQ, with heaps of grass for kids to play. Very under-rated and we'll definately book again.

Ok, if you want good, basic accommodation this could be your spot. We were in Kalbarri to fish, so we only needed a place to cook, shower and put our heads down at night. The positives for us, boat parking, 30 seconds from the ramp, walking distance to shops and pub. It has A/c, kitchen and fridge. Don't think you could find better for the price. Don't forget river/ocean view from front units

This is our second visit and we were not disappointed We stayed for 2 weeks. Our hosts Helen and Steve cannot do enough for you. The accommodation is basic, but very clean and tidy....and the view is spectacular especially Units 1/2/3. The unit has 2 b/r..1 d/b, and a 2nd room 2 s/b and a double bunk in the living area. ....a BBQ is available outside. It is self contained and the water is HOT.For a cheap holiday you could not ask for more ....remembering that the units were holiday units built 40 years ago.... But the views. ! ! !

Spent a week in the Riverfront Budget units again this year and was lucky enough to secure a front unit and a rear one for family to stay in. The front unit no 3 is showing its age and in need of some repair through high usage but the view is still the same and everything is there even if a little worn. The rear units are in much better condition and larger so if you dont want a view to die for these are the ones to get. Over all its a great place to stay and the price is great.

spent a week at these units and on arrival was a bit shocked at the lack of simple items supplied like pepper.salt or tea/coffee but you are paying a very modest price for one of the best views in Kalbarri if you get to stay in units 1,2 or 3. Clean except for the occasional cock roach and pet mouse but these old units have seen many a tourist season so dont expect four star for the price of less than $90 a night. Large inside and very basic but that has its charm so for a budget stay with a view to die for this is the one.

On the plus side, the cottages are large and perfectly located directly across the street from the beach, and a very short walk to shops and restaurants. The daily pelican feeding at 8:45 am is a short walk away. There is a full kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, tea kettle, pots, and dishes. A baby high chair and playpen were provided. The unit had three bedrooms and a total of five beds.
On the downside, the unit was very dirty. Dust coated the tops of shelves and appliances. There were dead bugs in the curtains. The living room sofa was torn, and all of the furnishings were rather old and beat up. Some of the kitchen utensils were rusty.
You need to bring your own linens and towels. Blankets are provided.

WOW what a place. The previous reviewer was right, this place is so under-rated. The cottages are quaint, clean and has all that you need. Sitting out the front to watch the sunset having Bourbon, Cheese and biscuits was so relaxing while others had to drive to the various lookouts. Also reminded me of the house I grew up in, it was nice to reminisce.

Ideal shack getaway, would be great for those fishing trips!!! Could do with a little upgrading like a decent sized queen bed & could have thicker walls.... could here the neighbours from the next door holiday units!! Otherwise I would say it was good, water was hot for showering, It was clean, tidy and ideal beach location... which was right across the road!! Plus plus for that... pub, restaurants and cafes close Walking distance, 😊👍🏼

Just spent a few days at the chalets over the school holidays with our 4 children.
Plusses: the location is idyllic! Close to shops, the pub, parks, etc. You won't need to drive anywhere. The Waterfront units are the best as you can sit and watch the sun set, watch the kids play on the grass out the front and just watch the days go by.
The gardens and grounds are well maintained and gives that old world feeling of a caravan park...without caravans.
The staff were really very friendly and happy to help with information about the town and surrounds.
The TV is small, but works well and the reception was good. Fridge, microwave, fans and aircon provided were all in great working condition.
Minuses: I get the place is cheap, but I found it a little dirty and ill equipped. I get also that the place is old (one of the things I like about it), but the cleaning leaves a little to be desired. The beds had mouse dirt, remnants of old food, sand, hair etc., under the mattresses. I swept this up upon making the beds. The shower needed a good dose of exit mould and I didn't feel comfortable showering without my thongs on. A new shower curtain is in order too.
The floor was pretty filthy and needed a good mopping (which there wasn't one provided or I would have used it!). I used the bed spreads that were provided (that we didn't use on the beds as we bought our own linen with us) to cover the couches because they were absolutely filthy; covered with god only knows what and I didn't want my kids laying on those. They either need a good steam clean, washable covers (available from spotlight), or completely replaced.
Also, there are no wine glasses, salad bowls or baking dishes. With 4 kids, we don't eat out much and rely on the self contained facilities to be able too cook meals. This wasn't the case as there were 2 trays and that was it as far as additional kitchen cooking kit goes (everything else was there, i.e., plates, bowls, fry pan, pots, coffee mugs and glasses). A trip to a few local op shops and the kitchen could be better kitted out for very little cost.....starting with wine glasses. Sitting out the front drinking wine out of a tumbler....not a great look.
Would I stay here again? Yes I would, but I am hoping my review is read by management and that those few little changes can be made to improve the place slightly, but by still being able to keep the price down.
