We stayed for three nights in one of the converted rail carriages. The setting is lovely and the way the carriages are spaced gives a real feeling of privacy. The carriage was more spacious than we expected. I think it would be a struggle to get more than one person on the sofa bed but two children would be fine. The carriage was really well equipped. It had soap, towels, toilet roll, tea and coffee, milk, dish cloth, tea towel and dish washing liquid. There is one hot plate and a microwave for cooking but there are communal barbecues too, although we did not use them.
It's true that this isn't top class accommodation, it was a little tired round the edges, however this added to the charm and it was very good value compared to anywhere else and was very clean.
The wildlife was wonderful. Feeding the animals in the morning and collecting the fresh eggs was an added bonus. We saw plenty of kangaroos and rabbits. If you are a light sleeper, be warned, the birds dawn chorus is very loud! But very entertaining.
What we loved about this place is the peace and quiet. It's only a five minute drive into Dunsborough too. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely return.

Nothing can begin to describe how awesome it was to stay in a Rail Carriage. They are cosy, well layed out and have everything you need. I felt like a was a kid again.

The scenery is very pretty and it is very quiet. Hardly knew there were other people around (there were).

Can't recommend this place enough!

This place looks nothing like the photos. It was dirty and rundown and the carriages needed a complete revamp to make them half way decent. The kitchenette was okay but the rest was awful. Bed and mattress was very old, aircon didn't work properly as filters were so filthy they had spiders in them, so nights and early mornings were cold. The shower had mould in the grout and we had 2 thin bath towels to last 3 days. There was nowhere to dry the towels which was very annoying. The windows were so dirty you could hardly see out of them.
The whole place looked dirty and rundown and in our opinion very over priced. We will never stay there again.

Pet friendly and we knew the location to be quiet and peaceful, and the price suggested we should expect clean and comfortable accommodation. However we were badly let down. The cottages need maintenance. Threadbare carpets in the bedroom and cracked light switch covers. Paint peeling off the walls. None of this would have been so bad if at least the cottage was clean. The floor tiles were dirty, crockery had not been cleaned properly and walls and ceilings had several bloodstains from swatted mosquitoes. The bedside tables and lamps were covered in dust and cobwebs. Given the extent of mosquito infestation one would have expected the rooms to have repellent available – fortunately the nearby shops stay open quite late! We will not return.

We stayed in one of the rail carriages for 2 nights and it was a wonderful experience. Not just for the accommodation but the location too was excellent.
The farm is located a few minutes drive from Dunsborough and is set out really well. As well as the carriages there are cabins and cottages but they are all set out to ensure privacy and you really feel like you have a huge area all to yourself. We were greeted by Milo the friendly red dog when we checked in and we were pleasantly surprised to find really great facilities within the carriage itself, all clean and working to a high standard. We enjoyed sitting out on the veranda with a hot drink before introducing ourselves to the miniature horses and alpacas.
If you stayed here with kids they would absolutely love it!

This is another return to Dunsborough Farm and Rail Carriages which says a lot in itself. Most of our families took their dogs who are made to feel very welcome (an extra $10 I believe for each visit). We again stayed in the Farmhouse which is a little bit more isolated from the rest of the cottages. It’s the adults retreat for our group. The advantage of the Farmhouse is that it has a full kitchen and 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. I bedroom is the master with ensuite. Bathroom amenities are limited to soap but all towels, bathmats, linen etc is provided. Some of the furniture is a little worn but this isn’t a 5 class getaway, rather a less sterile place you want to go to for a rural getaway with all the advantages of being very close to Dunsborough and tourist attractions in the area. You’re not afraid of getting dirt on your shoes here. Outside there is a verandah that wraps around half the house with a family size outside dining table and a smaller two seat setting as well as a BBQ. Kangaroos are regularly seen in the nearby paddocks too!

Dirty crockery and cutlery, I had to wash everything I used. The tram carriage smelt with an overall feeling of damp. Damp blanket in the cupboard, towels were damp as well. Shower and sink needed a damn good scrub, they were green. I know bore water stains but that was ridiculous. Couldn't wait to leave, paid for extra nights sight unseen, BIG mistake.

We stayed in the rail carriages, so have no idea what the cottages are like.

The carriages are surprisingly large - but don't believe suggestions that they can sleep more than 2 (unless the extra occupants are very small). The (very comfortable) double bed just fits in the width of the carriage and we found it easiest to move the daybed across in front of the door at night to make it easier to get out of bed.

The carriages were presumably converted some while ago and are comfortable enough but could do with a bit of refurbishment in places. The kitchenette area had a fridge, microwave, toaster, electric frying pan and a single hotplate with a couple of pans but it was a bit short on space and there wasn't much room to use the cooking facilities. It wasn't possible to fully close the door to the bathroom in our carriage. We also found that the water which I think came from a well didn't make very good tea.

It is possible to walk into town if you want to go out for a meal and like alcohol with your food. It takes about 40 minutes by cutting through the industrial area/golf club residential area - go out of the farm to Commonage Rd, turn right, take the first left and carry on to the roundabout at the end, turn right and follow the road round until you get to Resort Drive, turn into Resort Drive and follow it to the end, turn right and follow the road to the roundabout at the end - and you're right opposite Occy's and The Dunsborough Hotel. Take a torch to get back, as some of Commonage Road and the track to the carriages are not lit.

Free wifi is available as long as you get a good line of sight to the main building.

We were there in late spring and it got surprisingly cold at night, so for the benefit of others from the colder parts of the world who are not used to air conditioning - the A/C is reverse-cycle air conditioning, which means that it can heat as well as cool. Be aware also that there are mosquitos, so wear repellent if you're going to sit on the porch in the evening and take an electric anti-mozzie to plug in at night.

They feed the goats/chickens/alpacas in the morning - join in - it's fun.

We are regulars, or at least we have been. For a while we did not have time. Couple of weeks ago we stayed again in one of the rail carriages. Ellen and Robert did an amazing job - everything is cleared up, it looks absolute amazing. The animals are great, fluffy....:). Our little dog Tiny thinks of it as a second home. We are happy that we stayed again. Recommended to all!!!

There is a split system with a/c and a heater. The heater kept the room very warm. It was great.
