Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We needed to make a trip to Dunsborough so decided an overnight stay was better than back and forth in a day from Perth. I was very pleased to actually find a place which offered one nights accommodation as most places require two nights minimum. And I thought it was a great price for its top location. We were warmly greeted by Serge on our arrival with his relaxing music playing in the background. I ended up buying his CD and we listen to it regularly whilst having our morning coffee. We were upgraded to a larger room with a spa (which we didn't use) overlooking the garden. We were very happy with our spacious room, the bed was very comfortable, and there was also a small mini-bar .. how many places have that these days? We were able to walk to a few of our favourite spots the next day as you're only 5 minutes from the beach, you can't beat the location. Okay, it's not a palace, a few cob webs around the place but its a homely spot, friendly, nice gardens, check-in is easy, price is good ... what more do we want? We will definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Lanterns for three nights while visiting Dunsborough, for whale watching, and a general chill out while visiting Australia from England. The location was very good for the town centre which was approx 10 minutes walk and great beaches and lookout spots. The room was clean, and the bed was so comfortable that we had difficulty forcing ourselves out of it in the morning. There was someone there if you needed them, and the checking in and out was so simple. We hope to visit there again in the future. , and would recommend to others.

We had the most amazing stay with a warm welcome from Serge. The house and grounds are just beautiful and wonderfully decorated. The Lodge is just a short walk to the beach and a perfect base to discover the region. We will definitely be back again!

Stayed for one night. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed a short walk to the beach to explore the area. I want to give honest feedback and say the room needs a deep clean. There was beard hair left in one of the sinks, dirty jets in the soaker tub, dust throughout and cobwebs above the curtains. The outdoor furniture on the patio had cobwebs too, so unfortunately we couldn't sit there. Serge was welcoming upon arrival. Oddly his lovely jazz music played all night in the loungeroom which we could hear. We were awaken by Serge and his barking dog, checking in another guest right outside our room. Yes it was only 9:41 pm but perhaps it would have been more appropriate to check the guest in at the main foyer door. Without your dog. Would we return? No. There was nothing special about Lanterns that would compel us to return. Moderately pleasant but nothing too special.

Awesome place; it was just grand. Choice location, quiet street, nicely appointed and well, kinda chic. Serge's suggestions for restaurants are also good - Blue Manna Bistro & Wise Winery / Distillery!

Lanterns Retreat Lodge is definitely a "grown-ups' retreat! It is elegant, beautifully appointed and peaceful. Its proximity to Dunsborough centre and the beach makes for easy walks to cafes, bars and restaurants or just strolls along the foreshore. We stayed in the Baudin Suite which is upstairs and has a generous balcony overlooking a very French' style garden with fruit trees and roaming chickens! The host Serge Le Goueff though very welcoming is not at all intrusive and we were very much at home there. The huge bed and quality linen made it hard to get up in the mornings but once up, it is a great spot to explore the southwest corner from.....

Proximity, luxurious, privacy and a delightful host. The beautiful surrounding area and its proximity to the town made it convenient for shopping and eating. In addition the location afforded us the opportunity for daily trips down the coast and into the Margaret River area
