Detailed Reviews
I like this place as an alternative to the cookie-cutter motel experience I had been having on my recent swing around Victoria. In fact, I was quite pleased with myself for choosing this place for my recent two night stay. The place does have a lovely historical ambience, and fits in nicely with the overall ambience of Castlemaine.
It is in a quiet yet very convenient location, and so a good night's sleep was very easily achieved (no highway noise at all!).
A lovely old building, but mod cons like air con, ensuite bathroom, fridges, kettles, free wi fi etc. Parking was easy; both on the street or behind the lodge itself.
I was in a twin room, but did feel that maybe the bed could do with updating (first world problem!)
A larger waste bin would be nice.
The above two issues though are not deal-breakers; and this place will be my first choice when I next swing through Castlemaine.

We have been contacted by Campbell Street Lodge to cancel our booking for September 2022, which we are appreciative of, so we can arrange alternative accommodation.
According to the email, they will cease to take visitors from 15 August.
Please make sure that you check your bookings before you get there.
Hopefully we will get to stay here in the future.

Lovely old lodge with huge rooms close to town centre. Very helpful manager who gave us free rein in the kitchen, which made us feel at home. Building is reminiscent of better times when style and character in abundance. Recommended

Located close to town and many other lovely places, very well priced.
Loved the keyless digital entry pads, fabulous aircon and views, helpful hostess and history.
but neesome maintenance to clean carpets, remove mould from showers and fix broken and loose tiles on floor of room 9’s bathroom.
Got fresh towels every day from the helpful hostess and there are some great places for breakfast, lunch and dinner close by. Highly recommend the Railroad Pub and The Dove.
If you book a room here and do not mind stairs opt for one of the top floor rooms as the views are lovely.
We will be back!

We came across information on the lodge in a tourist brochure. So glad we did. The building has a lot of history. Having enjoyed three nights here we would certainly return. Our room was upstairs. Be aware there is no lift but we are seniors and managed fine. It was a reasonable size although the bathroom was a little small. Very clean. Loved having a microwave and toaster with crockery and cutlery provided. The bed was comfortable too. Being the middle of winter we were glad the heating in the room was on when we arrived around 6 ish. Access to the property is by key code front and back with the same code used for the room. Parking is at the rear of the lodge. The area is quiet and the best thing is the proximity to town. Just a 5 minute walk. Jan was very helpful and welcoming. We certainly recommend Campbell Street Lodge and would stay again.

We had one night at this lovely hotel. Gorgeous old building and the room was very comfortable. We received a text with our PIN and were able to check in easily. Off street parking was a bonus as well as a great air conditioner on a very hot day. Highly recommend

This is certainly a great place to stay, it is so comfortable and close to all the shops that Castlemaine has to offer.
It is so well run from the time we contacted them to book to the time that we checked out we had such an easy time of it and that this shows that it is a well run operation. I would highly recommend that this is the place to stay.

Budget priced accommodation giving top price experience. Close to town with quiet comfortable rooms containing good beds, very effective air con and bathroom. Jan is a wonderful host who made us feel very welcome. Next time we come to Castlemaine we want to stay here again

We really liked our 3 nights here. Its an old place so expect some windows to rattle and taps to drip but beds are excellent and its clean. Location is easy to town, to the station or to the Mill. We will come back.

We stayed here loast weekend and was looking forward to staying in a Heritage property, which was just the position in Castlemaine that we wanted. However, the promised Queen-sized bed turned out to be only a Double bed. If I'd known that, I would not have booked. Also, our room was on the ground floor, under the stairs, so we heard all the guests climbing the creaky stairs. Not only that, the Caretaker's room was next door to ours and whoever was in there had the radio on till 3 a.m., so no sleep for us. Never again.
