We arrived here yesterday afternoon, joining my Dad and his partner for a fortnight’s’ holiday. They have been here many times but this is our first visit.
It is beautiful. We have a riverfront site. The campsites are very generously sized, surrounded by manicured lawns and shaded by tall trees.
The bird life is plentiful. As I write this, I can hear many different bird calls amongst the trees and from across the river.
I threw a line in this morning and caught a bream after only a few seconds, but have only got undersized ones since then. Will have another go shortly. Other guests are catching them too.
There is a large, well-equiped camp kitchen, with plenty of tables. The amenities block is very clean, with good quality equipment in the laundry. $5 per load for washer or dryer (takes both $1 and $2 coins) The bathrooms are individual ensuite-style with key access. The key (provided at check-in) will open all bathrooms, so don’t leave your toiletries behind when you have finished in there.
The park is around 25 minutes south of Coffs Harbour where you will find all major shopping requirements.

Recently spent a week at this park. It is beautifully located right on the river and my site had river frontage. The amenities are new and clean although only two toilets are available for general use, the rest being allocated to specific sites, which makes it a bit difficult at rush hour. It was generally a relaxing and enjoyable week.
I was a bit wary when I rang to book and was confronted by a recorded lecture on the parks zero tolerance of verbal abuse and language towards staff. I wondered why a caravan park would need to introduce every prospective client with such a stern lecture. Obviously because it must be a common occurrence at this park?
The tone of the numerous rule notices around the park and on literature is rather daunting. And on reading the many reviews I was surprised to read so many “complaints” about the attitude of management/staff. Maybe the two issues are related.
I found the lady in the office friendly and helpful. Just before leaving I did have an experience with one of the male staff, fitting other people’s descriptions, that was unpleasant. Not necessarily what was said (he may have had a point) but the manner and approach was unpleasant and, in my view, unprofessional.
While there, my friends and I discussed making this our “go to” place for a quick week away. That may need some further thought but overall the park is a very lovely place to be.
Sometimes when someone has been doing a job too long they can see everything through a somewhat jaundiced perspective. Life is too short. Time to move on maybe?

Responded 16 July 2020
Hi Graeham K, Thank you for your kind words regarding our park. We take pride in keeping it clean, especially during these uncertain, challenging and scary times. Apologies for your wariness regarding our recorded message, we understand whilst the majority of our customers do not behave in such a manner, we do come across the odd customer who unfortunately does, thus the requirement for a message of this nature to be put into place. Yes, there is a lot of literature around the park, unfortunately this is part of this strange new world we are now a part of. We are doing our very best to keep our guests Covid Safe. We try very hard to accommodate everyone at our park and have to have strict rules regarding dogs on leashes and supervised at all times for the safety of all patrons. We are sorry that your Pet Policy breach resulted in an unpleasant experience with one of our staff. We would welcome the opportunity to have you back and give you a more positive experience next time.

We spent a few days here on a site which backed onto the river. We received a warm friendly greeting on checkin. Sites at the top are larger than those further down, concrete slabs are uneven and in places broken completely. I feel this is a park that could do with some serious TLC and maintenance. The bathroom amenities were very nice all being ensuite, however I hated the 5 min timed showers, a buzzer was suppose to warn you at the 4 min mark, but all of us using the amenities never heard the buzzer. I found noise was a problem, from the highway and the many trains that went thru at all hours, not the parks fault, but it was annoying. Several sites had fire pits, either their own or could be hired for $5 per night, and a bag of wood was $17, though this was great and very much appreciated. Lots of people were fishing from the banks and we saw several good sized fish being reeled in.

Hi Bceeingu, Thank you for your review. We have replaced some concrete slabs since your last visit, and we have more on the list. We receive a lot of compliments about the maintenance of our park, so we apologise if we dropped the ball during you visit with us. As we operate on a septic system we do limit showers to 5 minutes, I'm not sure what happened with the warning timer, as they currently all work, but we have replaced a couple of them since your stay. Aplogies you were annoyed by the traffic and train noise, but as you say, it is out of our control. Hopefully, you will think of us the next time you are in the area.

We recently stayed three nights here. The lawns are well maintained, the grounds are clean and the amenities are well cared for and clean.
I was incredibly disappointed that upon arrival and checking in, I was notified that the pool was closed. We specifically searched for a camp ground that had a pool and had planned our holiday relaxing by the pool. The staff member was not at all empathetic that we were disappointed and simply said "These things happen, there's nothing we can do about it. It only happened last night". By looking at the pool, this had not only occurred a few hours before, it was incredibly dirty and had a film of green sludge. Immediately, I felt lied to and was spoken to in a condescending manner. I disagree that there was nothing they could have done. We could have been informed that the pool was not working when I phoned to speak with someone about the park and amenities, it could have been updated on all social media pages and it could have been updated on the website. The park management did not take any measures to see that potential customers were informed that this aspect of the park facilities was in fact, not functioning. They continued to charge excessive fees, as described by them as 'summer rates' however, do not deliver on what they advertise. I was informed that the pool would be operational within a couple of days and we could enjoy it then, however this was not the case. No offer of compensation or concern was given. They simply showed no concern for ruining our holiday, which does not come often for us.
Although it was a relatively quiet park and the dogs that barked didn't do so for too long, the freight trains, especially during the night were extremely loud and we would wake numerous times during the night....they don't put that on the brochure! The showers, although nice and clean, have a timer and will cut out on you. This is particularly frustrating if you need to shower both yourself and children, you'll spend your time there with remnants of conditioner in your hair and soap on your body.
There was offensive language by a resident there, which is sadly very disappointing considering we had a child and could hear it all; it certainly doesn't give a nice, safe feeling to staying there. The cleaners in the toilet block were not speaking so kindly about some guests, perhaps this conversation should be best kept to the staff room.
Overall, this park could be wonderful, however I feel the staff have completely lost all understanding of why they are there....the guests. The guests are there on their holidays and pay the bills.....let's not have the guests feel like they are a burden. An improvement of communication is paramount. Sadly, whilst staying at the park, I felt like this park has lost sight of care and enjoyment of their guests.

Hi Melissa, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Thanks for noticing the care we take in keeping the grounds and amenities clean, well maintained and cared for. I assure you that the same care and consideration goes into the pool, and that this was indeed something that occurred the night before you arrived. I'm sorry that you feel as though the you were lied to and condescended. This is definitely not our intention. Unfortunately, we could not have preinformed you of the difficulties we were having with the pool when we spoke, as our pool issue hadn't occurred yet. We will definitely look at a social media update should this ever happen again. Our main priority at the time that this occurred was to get the pool back to being operational for all guests, and we could only give you information that we received by our supplier that the pool would be back to normal and safe for guests to swim in again before the end of your stay, and unfortunately their estimate was wrong, and we apologise for this. Given the only interaction that we had with you was when you checked in and your issues with all of the above have only been brought to our attention here, well after you’ve checked out, this makes it difficult for us to rectify as it is happening as we are unaware of what is causing you concern. We were unaware of a request for compensation. The Bellinger River is our main attraction, where you can fish right from your site and that we are a quiet and well maintained independent park. We are sorry that you believe our park charges excessively during our summer period, our rates decrease during the winter period (1st of May - 31st August). The trains (both freight and passenger) do make noise, and we're sorry you were woken numerous times by this. As we run on a septic system, our showers are timed at 5 minutes which is clearly marked in all ensuites, I'm sorry you feel that this is not enough time. We provide our guests with a baby room with a deep sink for bathing your child(ren - there was only one child listed in your booking - depending on their ages). Unfortunately, we cannot control the type of language that is used by our guests and understand how offensive this would have been, especially around young children, this is not on and if we were aware of this occurring, we could have had a conversation with them about this. Thanks for bringing to our attention the conversations being had by staff, we have spoken to those in question, and this will not happen again. I assure you that we have not lost sight of our customer focus, we're sorry that you feel like we have. We always want to improve what we do here at Bellinger River Tourist Park and all of your points have been taken into consideration.

Unfortunately this caravan park isn't family friendly at all. The park and facilities were ok and the location is good, however, the long term residents really let this park down. The reception staff were helpful but that's where the positives ended.
We were "greeted" by one of these couples very rudely and abruptly when backing our van in. We politely told them that we had it under control but were told in no uncertain terms that they were also the care takers and had to follow their directions.... we later found out that they mowed the lawns and cleaned the bathrooms.
Our kids were also told off for playing on the only small grassed area - how dare kids run around on grass!
No one came to speak with us, we just received a text message which was very disappointing. We've stayed at countless parks across Australia and have never experienced the bullying we have at Bellinger from the permanents.... so much so that we have cut our trip short by a night.
It's very unfortunate that this park is run by a few permanent residents who do not like families and children.

Dear Luke, At Bellinger River Tourist Park, we pride ourselves, among other things, on being a family friendly caravan park. The three women who run the park, Business Manager, Manager and Assistant Manager all have young children, being unwelcoming to families is definitely not part of our ethos. Rest assured we have a Park Manager who runs the park, not any of our residents. Our caretakers that are residents/employees are always happy to be a helpful set of eyes to lend a helping hand when our guests require some assistance manoeuvring their vans onto sites. This was done for the safety of everyone and for the property within the Park. Thank you for taking the time post-visit to discuss the incident involving the children’s ball games with Park Management over the phone. We are happy that the above-mentioned text message occurrence has been addressed with you and also reviewed at our end. Our staff are up to speed with updated protocol for such incidents. We apologise you felt the need to cut your trip short, but we would welcome the opportunity to show you that your experience was a rarity and definitely not the experience of all our guests.

Idyllic little spot close to quieter areas of interest south of Coffs. Easy access to and from the highway without having to wrestle with Coffs traffic and more than you have to to get through. From here we day tripped to Urunga (the pier is well worth a visit and walk to the end), Bellingen (relaxed alternate vibe with a great pub), Sawtell and Coffs. Great spot for fisherfolk as it's RIGHT on the river. Spacious villas; good BBQ facilities. Office has small selection of basics (UHT milk etc) if you're caught out but best to shop in Coffs on your way through. Would love to stay again as it's a great halfway point to meet friends from Sydney. Prompt communication with owners; very good value.

Every two years my in laws get together there is 33 of us. Ranging in age from 1 - 75yrs with a mixture of tents, camper trailers and caravans. We have been doing this for over 20 years. A sibling picks a different place.
This year we landed at the best spot I have stayed at for this camping trips.
We had a waterfront site. It was amazing. I have never fished and by the end I was a “pro”. We tied three inflatable river rings to a long rope, had the SUP and 2 kayaks and the kids spent the days swimming, floating, fishing. We went to the beach, we swam in the tidal pool. We drove 15mins to explore Sawtell and Coffs.
I finished a book and watched amazing sunsets most evenings.
The amenities are again first class with the new style toilet, shower, sink (like an ensuite).
It is definitely worth a visit.

We were greeted by the friendly and helpful owner and check in was easy. The park is well kept with a good swimming pool, camp kitchen and amenities. I do not agree with a previous post that the park is noisy. Yes, you can hear a train in the distance a couple of times but it does not disturb your stay at all. The permanent tenants are not a problem either. We had a very relaxed stay but unfortunately was cut short by the flooding that is occurring on the east coast at the moment. I would recommend this caravan park to anyone looking for a relaxed holiday central to Bellingen and the coast.

Bellinger River Caravan Park, set on the river bank, is heaven for fishermen, kayakers, paddle-boarders and travellers who enjoy a peaceful water view. There's a mix of large slab and grass sites, and the most popular sites are right on the water's edge. There's fire pits for hire and wood for sale, which make for a cosy evening of relaxation. The bathroom and laundry facilities, camp kitchen are clean and in excellent condition. There's a herb/vege garden for travellers' use. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and will be back in the future.

Bellingen River is a lovely spot, we have stayed before and enjoyed our stay so returned again. This time we found the midgies to be really bad unfortunately. Day tips can be done to Bellingen and surrounds. The amenities are the best we have found in all our travels, they are like your own private ensuite. TV reception was good but scratchy internet.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Being in nature can be a wonderful thing, sometimes this means insects. We love it when guests notice the time and care we take in our park - especially the amenities block. Internet is not great in our park, we don't even have NBN to our property. Please feel free to reach out to your telecommunications provider to let them know about their shortfall, perhaps they will start giving our little area of the world a little more attention.
