Our family of four (daughters ages 11 and 13) had an amazing time at Tambopata Research Center. We did the 4N/5D package with one night at Refugios (which was lovely for the 12 hours we were there). Luis C., our guide, was amazing. His knowledge and ability to spot animals in the wild (like baby caiman in the dark) was...

Great find in the Amazon jungle! We just got back from 21 days in Peru...TRC was the icing on the cake! as others have mentioned, we were pleased to find the bathrooms are totally private, not a long wait if at all to use them. The showers had plenty of hot water, but it was so hot outside cold water...

Dear Guest, Thank you for reviewing the Tambopata Research Center. Great to hear that we were the icing of your Peruvian trip :) The protection against the insects is indeed important as you described in your review. Thanks for all your useful recommendations for the future visitors. We always put a very important emphasis on food allergies and dietary restrictions...

Tambopata is an excellent lodge deep in the Madre de Dios river complex. There are very few steps to access it which is much better than some lodges. The living quarters are minimal but sufficient and the food was good. The best part was our guide (Esau) who knew everything about the jungle and the macaws that came visiting every...

Spent three days at TRC - what an experience. Remote is an understatement - the center is 2 hrs upstream past the final checkpoint into the reserve - no human civilization for hundreds of miles, just you and about 25 other lucky travellers and scientists who get to stay there. Our guide Luis was absolutely amazing - knowing every species...

This jungle retreat is not a hotel, but if you want to get real close to nature and stay in simple, but well functioning facilities, this is the place. Great guides, good food and nature coming to visit you in your room. A wonderful and memorable experience. Rainforest Expeditions (www.Peru.nature.com) organised everything perfectly - highly recommended.

Loved T.R.C Friendly staff, and super walks in the rainforest. Our guide Oscar was very knowledgeable- we learnt a lot, and saw lots of interesting plants and animals. Food very good too. Would love to go back there again-a definite highlight of our visit to Peru.

This is my 2nd review of our 5D/4N deep rainforest experience - wrote one for Refugio Amazonas. FYI: if you don't like wild life, insects, mud, you get irritated that animals don't show up for your pleasure as they do at a caged zoo, you don't like the humidity - then stay in the comfort of your North American/European home...

We had a great time at Tambopata. The food was great and the staff first rate. Our guide was Marleen and she was the bomb! She was an excellent guide and could spot any particular bird a half mile away by sound, then looking for it with her scope. Accommodations we great for being in the middle of the rain...

We spent 3 or 4 nights at Tambopata Research Center in May 2015. If you are looking for something like a Four Seasons resort (we weren't), then this isn't for you. But if you are happy with small, but clean, rooms, shared (and frequently cleaned) bathrooms, delicious food and energetic and knowledgeable guides (ours was Listen and he was great)...

Dear Jean, Thanks for choosing TRC for your trip to the Peruvian Amazon. Your description is a great definition of the place and for whom it would be suitable. Sounds like you had a great wildlife sighting. Did you know that you can download the species identification charts from our homepage for free?

Lots of wildlife, great guide (Fernando), and good food. You're in nature, so if you don't like noises in the night or getting sweaty, stay in Lima! We had a great time - you'll probably never see more macaws in the wild or more unmolested jungle. As others have said, there's a lot of time on boats, but its a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a spartan yet comfortable 18 bedroom lodge with 8 shared bathrooms. Because of its remote location in uninhabited wilderness, housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife. It is located in a half hectare clearing in the middle of the uninhabited portion of the Tambopata National Reserve, less than a kilometer from the world's largest and most diverse macaw claylick. ... more   less
