Two friends and I spent one night at Refugio Amazonas and two nights at TRC in early October. It was an experience that I will never forget. From the wonderful food, comfortable accommodations and helpful staff, the entire trip was perfect. I lost my cell phone our 2nd day at TRC. It fell out of my pocket onto the stones...

faboulous days in the jungle of Tambopata NP - 4 days/5nights - not go for less. We spent already 2 times in others jungle areas (brazil and bolivia), Tambopata is a simple, well organized, good sized lodge. food excellence, also as a veggie! best guide ever - ask for Michael - 😉.

The staff, the food, the guides, the rooms...all were amazing! A trip that I will never forget and recommend to others. Fresh hot coffee available early in the am when getting ready to head out for the day was a great touch!

From the first moment we met our guide Jair he was most solicitous as to our welfare and made sure that we got the very best out of our stay. He was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the wildlife. All the staff were welcoming and attentive and keen to make sure that we were happy and relaxed....

The room was small, dirty, and open to the jungle with all its friends visiting you whenever they wanted! No bathroom or shower in the room. Had to walk 50 yards to a common bathroom area - no problem during the day - a whole new experience during the night - carrying a flashlight attracting jungle creatures!!!! Our guide was...

We appreciate you have taken part of your time to share your travel experience. Yes, the Tambopata Research Center is a small and cozy lodge immerse in a pristine jungle. As the only research center inside the National Reserve of Tambopata, we should follow some regulations to not impact nature around with infrastructure and emissions. In the near future, we...

TRC is truely great. They have done everything they can to make the centre feel like a home away from home. Although the rooms could do with some fans (it was 37 degrees during our stay). If you have some hot weather forecast you may want to bring a battery fan. The food was lovely and the staff were fabulous.

We visited Tambopata Research Center in September. We were greeted at the Puerto Maldonado Airport by our guide Luis, who turned out to be the best and most knowledgeable guide and friend ever. We spent amazing six days under his care, we learned so much about the rain forest environment and the research program itself. We saw all types of...

My wife and I went to the TRC for vacations. Our experience was amazing. TRC is a great place to visit if you want to be in contact with an extreme biodiverse nature. I never expected to see such a great number of species interacting between them in such a short time. The attention of the staff at TRC was...

We had three nights (two full days) here-- not enough time, really, to see everything, but they were very full days and we loved everything about it. The food was great, the setting sublime, the staff amazing, and our guide was fantastic. A tip of the hat to the Rainforest Expedition folks who are constantly arranging for the comings and...

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in September. It was wonderful - a very different experience that we would not have missed. The centre itself is lovely, the rooms well designed, the food excellent and the staff incredibly helpful. The most exciting part was seeing the birds, animals and insects. We had an excellent guide in Jair, who...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a spartan yet comfortable 18 bedroom lodge with 8 shared bathrooms. Because of its remote location in uninhabited wilderness, housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife. It is located in a half hectare clearing in the middle of the uninhabited portion of the Tambopata National Reserve, less than a kilometer from the world's largest and most diverse macaw claylick. ... more   less

“Be ready to deal with hot and humid weather and sleep with mosquito nets. Bathrooms are shared but the staff keeps them very clean all the time. The rooms are open (no windows). We were a little bit concerned about this at the beginning, but enjoying the sound of the rainforest during the night absolutely worths it.”
