Stayed in a large family cottage with 4 beds. Location of the lodge is great with superb views. Personnel is kind, even a tad too shy if you ask me. Cottage was wel appointed and the food was great. Only 4/5 because there were quite some rat droppings in our bathroom in the morning. The room was spotless when we got in, but apparently at night we had a visitor. Something that can surely be remedied, making this a solid 5/5 next time.

We arrived here as our third stop on our Uganda safari We had already stayed at Murchson River Lodge and Turaco Treetops so our expectation of Ugandan Lodges was raised to a high level The lodge itself was comfortable and the outside shower was quaint and worked well with plenty of hot water The general state of the woodwork was not great and it looks as if money needs to be spent on maintenance but not in a way that disimproved our stay We found the staff very welcoming The common areas are quite small and there was a large group staying so space was at a premium The food itself was just ok and not of the standard of the previous lodges Our stay was booked by a safari company so i am not exactly sure on the relative pricing of the different lodges but if this was the same price as Turaco Or Murchison River Lodge then the value would be much less here That being said it is a great location but needs a little more attention to general maintenance and improvement in the kitchen

A couple of my friends and I visited the lodge in December and greatly enjoyed the experience. Everything went exceptionally well. The food was delicious and the rooms were very beautiful and cosy. The staff were really helpful. I would recommend this lodge to anyone planning a holiday in Uganda.

We came as a family of 6 to Marafiki, we paid and booked some month ago, our agent even confirmed with them some days before we even reached. reaching to Marafiki we found that our booking is not there, our room is taken. after showing them the receipt and contacting their office in Kampala , the manager Jonathan came, apologizing for us and promised us he will find us a place even though it was his own room ( and i think he did that), up to this point it was ok, so my rating is not really because of the mixed up! let me repeat! my 1 star rating is not because they missed our booking! mistakes can happen although it shouldn't especially when you re confirm a booking! we let it slide, at the end we are coming to have fun and no amount of anger will change the outcome, so just relax!! while we were waiting for this error to be fixed, we stayed for around 45 minutes to 1 hour sitting without any of the employees offering us a drink or anything as a welcome, it was again Jonathan who told them "cmon guys at least a juice", again, we were ok and not angry, actually we weren't even angry for a second during our stay. So i asked them ok while we are waiting and you are arranging for us a room, lets have the lunch, we booked full board, so after telling the first waiter, the second waiter and after again some 15 minutes of no response i had to ask the 3rd waiter with the " i don't know whats happening with your guys, maybe you are overwhelmed, but we need to eat and my kids neet to eat" so the waiter went to the kitchen and came with the " we only have spaghetti for lunch", ok red flags started to show. spaghetti only? ok fine just bring... they brought the spaghetti, Bolognese and one veggie for me, yeah it wasn't that good. no one of us finished their food although we were hungry. Room: showed us the room, they arranged 4 single beds with nets in a single room instead of the family we were supposed to have, we had no problem, of course we had problems fitting in but still we understood the error that happened. Dinner: coming for diner, the chairs were not enough! the restaurant also serves as reception , it has dining tables and sofa set areas with small coffee table in the middle, of course You can't sit on the sofas to eat, especially if you are many, and we are 6, so they had only one table remaining but with 4 chairs! i asked the waiter and he said they don't have anymore chairs! how is that even possible? how can you have less chairs than your number of guests sleeping in the place!! my wife sat with our youngest child on the same chair and i sat by myself on one of the sofas, no waiter, manager or any employee cared or even noticed. that literally never happened to me in my life in any of the hotels i visited and i visited a lot! Food at diner: bad, seriously guys you can make better, my cook at home who is not that experienced does better, the matooke were hard, the rice not nice, i had vegetable curry and again didn't even finished half of my plate, the food was not nice, please have a better chef. Customer care: almost non existing, we came and no one was on the entrance, we literally had to go to the restaurant to call the workers to come help us with the bags, a lady worker sitting on the walkway between the rooms talking on her phone for like 20 mn, like you couldn't find another place to talk on your phone other than the walkway where the guests are passing? and finally, After the first day and first incident, Jonathan was actually nice and showed some signs of customer care and that he cared, so i had some hopes, then next day morning the same Jonathan who was very welcoming the day before to us and to other guests, now forced a good morning to us from far, ok!! not asking us how our night went? i really had a problem at night! not asking how the 6 of us fit in 4 single beds? ok no issues, we finished our breakfast and left, not a single employee or Jonathan said bye, ok seriously guys we didn't do anything, i didn't make a scene although i know how to make one if i wanted!! even Jonathan was surprised that am not angry!! he was i swear! he told the day before a couple came and had a lesser of a problem and made a scene! Internet: not existing in the rooms, only in restaurant/reception, still cuts a lot, like a lot. Room: after we arranged our selves somehow into the beds, they pushed 2 single beds together and we had one net for both, so i was struggling with the net because the area is full of mosquitos, and the net barely can cover the 2 beds without leaving empty spaces for mosquitos to enter... but we kinda managed, my wife had a terrible night trying to fit with my son in the same small single bed. but the best part is when at midnight we woke up to a strong whizzing sound in the room, all the 6 of us literally jumped from our beds, it seems the UPS in the room is empty, and the sound it was making was seriously loud, we had the toilet light on, we tried to turn it off to no avail, so after like 10 mn of that whizzing sound, we opened a box and we turned the UPS off which turned everything off in the room, i used my phone torch to give us some light until morning. trust me it took us a again another 1 hour to put the kids back to sleep. at morning i put the ups on again and it was still having the same sound, i left it on because we needed the toilet light to brush at least. .. no employee knows about the UPS? no one cares to tell the guests " oh btw there is a UPS that might scare the hell out of you at night?" Room again: 1 small bottle of water for 6 people, 1 small bottle of shampoo and 1 small bottle of shower gel for 6 people? does it need common sense? we have 6 people so lets add the water and the shampoo? The grand finale: which is ironic, i paid 320$ for 1 night at Marafiki, that's not a small amount, i paid the same for Turaco in Kibale national park, i saw what quality a 320$ can give! at least i entered the room in turaco and saw there was 6 bottles of water with 6 glasses, they had 6 towels for us! i paid 300$ at embrura farm lodge in Mbarara the next day, they gave us 2 master bed rooms with a lounge/ 2 tvs plus amazing service for that same amount!! tea coffee in the rooms plus again 6 bottle of water! i paid 320$ at Marafiki to get a family room and instead i got a single room with a whizzing UPS sound, and no one offered a refund!! at least the difference of rates which is supposed to happen!! i even paid some 15$ for sodas while i was leaving! no one cared to say " sorry for what happened, at least the sodas on us"! no! i deserve i refund and i should have, but nah Marafiki thought i don't deserve a refund, and i don't deserve even a proper good bye at least... what a sorry place to be in.

Marafiki is a beautiful hideaway on the outskirts of Queen Elizabeth National Park with breathtaking views of Lake Kikorongo. The service is excellent with highly courteous and professional staff who made our stay not only comfortable but memorable! Highly recommend for a couple's getaway or with friends.
