From the porter collecting us from the ferry, to being welcomed with smiles, Hibiscus juice and delight- we knew this was a special place. Russel the manager was delightful and even walked us to our spice tour which was a nice touch. We stayed in the Kate room on the top floor and it was magical. The decor, the amenities,...

Stayed one night in Stonetown - so glad we chose Emerson Spice. Each room is wonderfully decorated in its own style, service was excellent and the hospitality was personable. Had 3 meals at the hotel all delicious and very reasonably priced. The tasting menu is to die for! Breakfast on the rooftop was lovely. Lunch was quick but elegant. I...

Hotel was recommended by a good friend and what a wonderful pick it was. Great location in the heart of the city and not the tourist section. The staff was amazing as was the boutique hotel room which was suite-like in both its size and decor. Having breakfast on the roof with a delightful staff serving 7 different kinds of...

Perfect beginning for our honeymoon. We arrived unannounced without a reservation before the reception was opened, which confused the staff a little bit because of its unusuality. We were offered a complimentary breakfast (amazing after long flight) and their best suite. Thankfully it was low season. Welcome was very personal from all of the staff and a sparkling wine wating...

We arrived at 1am and booked the pick up service which was essential for an 1am arrival. There is short 5 min walk to the hotel. We stayed in Kate for 3 nights. Generous room with double balcony and bath and shower (one inside and one outside). Location is excellent. Building has lovingly been rebuilt and made to look old....

We spent our last night here after our Tanzania safari and our Zanzibar beach stay and what a great way to finish. Beautiful boutique hotel with so much history. We stayed in 'Kate' which was outstanding. Very large, beautifully furnished room with balconies each side which allowed for a lovely breeze. Great view over the roof tops where you can...

Boutique Hotel of excellence. Very generous people, everything perfect. We felt like in a fairytale of 1001 night. Therooms are all different and all very special. Food is probably the best you get in Stonetown. Service is friendly and natural and individual. We travel a ozt but this was best of bests.

My parents and I shared the Aida room (can sleep 4-5 people comfortably) for two nights and very much enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, air-conditioned, and uniquely decorated with delightful windows, places to sit, and upstairs sleeping area for other guests, and a beautiful balcony where we had breakfast served our second morning. The breakfast was delightful with...

The set menu on the rooftop of the Emerson Spice came highly recommended from my coworkers. It did not disappoint. The service and food were excellent. The hotel is beautifully decorated. I felt like I was stepping back into the early 20th century and didn't want to leave.

To be in the middle of Stone Town, an ancient city, able to watch the modern day to day activities in the streets below while living in luxury was an amazing experience. Have never stayed in such an exotic room setting! We were in Belle and thoroughly enjoyed it. We wandered around Stone Town (which to us is a labyrinth)...

Such a pleasure to meet you both! It was a shame that you only stayed for one night. We always recommend that to really immerse oneself into the true unique culture that is Stonetown, as well as to enjoy both the Emerson Zanzibar's Tea House Restaurants, a two night stay is a must. Look out for our Special offers -...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
An inspired and lovingly restored Merchant’s House, this multi-storied small Boutique hotel has an inner courtyard, eleven unique antiques-filled rooms, and two of Zanzibar’s best restaurants. All rooms are equipped with a small fridge, air conditioner, fan, and high ceiling mosquito net. The rooftop ‘Tea House’ hosts one of Stonetown’s most renowned restaurants offering a stylish ambiance amidst the sound of the calls to prayer from the town’s many mosques. The five course ‘Taste Safari’, prepared daily by our Zanzibari chefs, is seafood based and celebrates the freshest and best the market has to offer each morning. The sunset hour is an integral and pleasurable part of the experience so diners are encouraged to arrive at around 6pm to enjoy a ‘Sundowner’ before dinner. On the Ground floor The Secret Garden, set amidst lushly landscaped hidden ‘Ruins’, open to the skies, has a Zanzibari inspired A La Carte Menu. Look out for live music performed by The Dhow Countries Music Academy. Open for Lunch and Dinner. ... more   less
