Situated in a World Heritage Site, this is the ultimate in a relaxing weekend. You can go for climbs, walks or just do noting and admire the sunrises and the sunsets. The staff are caring and attentive and obviously enjoy what they do. Highly recommended for overseas and local visitors!!

This is my 4th visit to this lovely lodge and each time I go it seems to get better . The scenery is staggering - beautiful mountains , terrific marked walks , and lovely vegetation. I love the rooms especially the suites ! They are spacious , extremely comfortable and have lovely balconies which take you right into the beautiful... More

What a wonderful resort and spa. Accommodation fabulous, scrumptious food at every meal. Something for everybody regardless of age. Walks so well thought out. Loved the homely atmosphere, especially the dogs. The Spa is worthy of a visit too. Peter Carte should give the odd talk about how the Cavern came about and the area. He is most entertaining.

Sadly, the rating system does not allow a 3 1/2 star rating, so I have to fall back to 3. We have been to this family run hotel on several occasions, and have until now, left feeling like it was the proverbial oasis in a desert of service. Everything just seemed to work, and work well. Sadly, this is no... More

Dear Clive Thank you for taking time to review The Cavern. We are grateful to all those that continue to return from one year to the next and know how important it is to keep things consistent and to meet expectation time and time again. We spend a tremendous amount on upgrades every year and we continue to plan for... More

We enjoyed The Cavern. Super hiking, and lots for the kids to do. Only issue I had was with dinner - not 'children over 7' friendly and not everyone eats duck or oxtail which were the only choices one night! Also, horses need more maintenance I.e. Hooves to be seen to and perhaps better quality food. Some of them seemed... More

Dear MelanyEileen Many thanks for the reviewing The Cavern. Lovely that you enjoyed your stay. The Dinner Menu is aimed at the adult visitors and children do have the option of eating earlier if preferred. We do have a few 7-10 years olds that opt for dinner from the children’s playroom. Oxtail and Duck may not be to your preference... More

The birding weekend we were on was most informative, including both lectures and walks. This combined with the beautiful ambiance of the Resort, the log fires and the excellent service made for a memorable weekend.

Even though The Cavern was not my cup of tea it doesn't mean that it's a terrible place. My wife and kids loved the place and activities offered for kids and adults. In my opinion, the place was a bit too rustic, even though they busy upgrading at the moment. The bedrooms need TVs urgently for those early nights of... More

Dear Duncan Thank you for taking time to review The Cavern and we do appreciate your constructive criticism. We spent this weekend at The Cavern in the Northern Drakensburg specially to do the Spionkop Battlefields with Ken Gillings. It was our first visit and we were blown away. What an absolute gem. Family run resort with plenty to offer all types of holidaymakers. The Spa was outstanding.
