My friends and I have been coming at Deering Habor Inn the last few years and always had memorable long weekends at this hotel. The views and the grounds are the best on the North Fork and the rooms are clean and user friendly with a small kitchen that allows you to prepare

8/23/18 My husband and I checked into Dering Harbor Inn. The rooms were dated but I was ok with that knowing it in advance. Before dinner I took a shower only to find there was not conditioner or lotion. just shampoo. I called the desk and they did bring me up conditioner.

Response from DeringHarborInn, General Manager at Dering Harbor Inn
Responded 8 Sep. 2018
09-08-18 In response to Peni R's review please may I introduce myself. My name is Sherri and I am the Co-op/Hotel/And Property Manager here at The Dering Harbor Inn; my name is not Barbara. I have been working here for 28 years, and have been the Manager for 14 of those years. First, let me apologize if I ever offended anyone; especially a paying guest as our goal here is to always please everyone, be respectful to all guests, and to be professional. I was present when this particular couple checked in that afternoon. They asked if we had an elevator which I informed them that no we did not; not only do we not have one, but they do not exist here on Shelter Island at any other venue. Right then and there their poor attitude began. I did explain that they would only be on the second floor, and had offered them assistance to gain access to the suite, which by the way has one of the best views on the premises outside of the one bedroom water-front deluxe stes. yet they declined our help. The guest is correct in saying that we do not have hair conditioner, yet we do have ALL-IN-ONE Shampoo/Condtioner, still she demanded a bottle of conditioner which I personally went home to get a small bottle and we did deliver it shortly after her request. At almost 11 PM at night she called my mobile phone yelling about their dissatisfaction with what she referred to as "itchy" sheets and a bed as hard as a rock. I did say to her that no-one had ever told me in all these years about "itchy" sheets and as far the bed there was no other suite to move them to that night. She was very displeased with my response and demanded that something be done right there and then. I at the point told them that they could leave the Inn and I would refund their money. She begin to be so rude that yes it was then that I did ask them to go. I NEVER ever told her "good luck in finding a hotel that late"......Never! That simply is not something that I would ever say to anyone. What she claims I did would be so very rude, mean, and unprofessional, which is not my style nor my good standing reputation here at this Inn for the last 28 years. I was sorry about her not liking the sheets we provide, and yes I could have delivered tp her suite a new set, but she wanted to change suites because she claimed that the mattress was too hard, and there was nothing which I could do about that. I new from that call and from years of experience in the hospitality field that they were not going to be satisfied here no matter what. She called a few days later about an earring or earrings and I told her that my head housekeeper did not turn them into lost and found, but that I personally would go to the suite and look for them even under the bed which I did, but no earring nor earrings were there. I took her number and told her that I would call her if we found them. It was either on that call or a call a few days later that she made to us about the refund. I told her that we were only going to keep the normal $50.00 administration fee and that was when she brought to my attention that her husband is a lawyer. I then said, "you know what", it is not worth the $50.00 for her to slip me a subtle hint which I took as a "threat" about her husband being a lawyer. I want happy customers and I want customers to go away from here having had loved it and everything about us here which is usually the case, but in life there are those who no matter you do, you can never please them regardless. Respectfully Written, Sherri (Manager)

This is my favorite place to stay on the island. Sherry and Barbara will treat you like family. The inn has a gorgeous pool, incredible view and meticulously clean. However, ask for a renovated room when you book. All the rooms are very clean but since they are at a similar

No not noisy at all; as a matter of fact the studio rooms in the main building are actually the quietist.
