My husband and I chose the American Hotel based on reviews (and I didn't want to stay in a traditional B&B when we went to the Book Village in Hobart) and the 5 star reviews here didn't do the hotel justice. We only stayed one night about two weeks ago but now I wish we had stayed for at least...

What a wonderful place. Kind, Peaceful and truly genuine in every way. Headed up for a wedding the weekend arriving at 8pm on a damp, rainy, night it was the perfect place to arrive. From our delectable dinner in the restaurant to the quiet comfy room. Breakfast was super good with 6 solid choices each one better than the next,...

One of the nicest experiences...A beautiful 1800's restored property. Garth and Doug are the finest hosts we have ever met. Garth {also the Mayor of Sharon springs} gave us the stories of the hotel..Re: the haunted guest...He also cooked us a beautify breakfast on our departure... Fresh blueberry pancakes with bacon...and French toast with blueberry sauce/// Quite an experience/// If...

Staying at the American hotel is worth a trip from anywhere. It's like stepping into another time. The rooms are tiny, but nicely appointed, the innkeepers make you feel as if they've known you forever. Ordinarily, I don't like inns and don't want to get chummy with innkeepers, but these guys have the right combination of friendliness and respecting your...

We chose this place based on reviews here and having seen it on purple roofs while attending the Glimmerglass Festival. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful - from the bartender to the owners. The room was OK, but since we booked last minute got the only room available. I would not recommend this - book in advance and get...

Would love to revisit this wonderful old hotel. Can't say what I enjoyed the most - the food, the pub, or the hands-on care from the owners. Matt, the bartender on duty during our visit, mixes a perfect Manhatten. He's witty, chatty, and a master mixologist (if that's a real word - it has to be). Owners are onsite, friendly,...

We have dined here twice. Both times for dinner. The food is excellent and beautifully prepared. The menu is varied. Meat, fish, pasta and vegetables. There is great pride taken in presentation. The portions are quite large so we feel it offsets the cost. The appetizer platter is amazing. But be prepared it is huge. The owners are very friendly...

Our arrival was late for our 6 o'clock reservation. A call to inform the hotel staff that we would like to know if we could have a 7pm reservation instead went unanswered. (staff did not return our call that was left on their answering machine) We arrive anyway and hoped that they would accommodate our late arrival. Owner Garth (of...

Our 2nd stay and 4th visit to the American Hotel! Owners, Doug and Garth, make every stay a memory. The food in their dining room (breakfast is included) is outstanding. The bar, albeit small, is the place to be. The porches are amazing. ❤️ it!
