Ricky's beach house is a beautiful place to spend few days or more. In front of Indian ocean, in a fishermen village. You will be welcomed by a friendly staff sharing a bit of their life with you. You could stay in a clean and comfortable bungalow. A dorm was in construction when I was there. I really enjoyed my... More

I registered on TA just to write this review ;) I haven't written any before, even though I have been there 3 times because I found it difficult to describe how I feel about this place. It is full of emotions, good vibes, music, amazing wild nature and very authentic and honest people. They make you feel like a member... More

Booking has been pretty smooth with Ricky by Whatsapp and reception with the taxi driver at the airport. As mentioned earlier, getting there is a bit of an adventure but we knew about it. When we arrived, we took a small boat to join the private island with new bungalows. It's where the disappointments started. No welcome just were pointed... More

To get to the Rickys Beach House on our own was one great adventure (I highly recommend to go for it:)) - arriving in the dark on motorbikes on a bumpy road... But after all, we got on a boat that took us to the isolated beach where the beach bungalows are. The manager of the place, Sava, welcomed us... More

We stayed 4 nights in the village, where there are 3 basic huts, right at the beach. The facilities are basis so don't expect luxery. If you want that there are also brand new bungalows on a private beach nearby. Sunbathing in bikini and walking around in swim outfit is not appreciated in the village, but for us it was... More

I don't even know where to start, this is just a perfect little piece of paradise and I miss it already. I haven't been to anywhere remotely similar, they just got everything right. The atmosphere is one of a kind and people who work there are the friendliest and most genuine people I've met. It felt like being with friends... More

Amazing place with a very affordable price and the best staff i have encountered in Indonesia. We arrived with fever, unfortunatelly, but Rob and Ricky took such a great care of us that we healed almost completelly in this paradise. They brought food to our place, helped with advices and gave us the best time possible. Thank you so much!... More

We spent two days at Rickys beach house and we loved it. Ujang, a great guide, took us late at night (as we arrived in the dark) by boat to the lodges. Dinner was ready (with real french fries, which we loved!) and the friendly staff was waiting for us. One day in the village and another with a boat... More

This was the perfect relaxing end to our time in Sumatra. The private beach shared with the few other guests is lovely, the bungalow was just the job - a big comfy bed with a mosquito net, a fan next to the bed, the outdoor bathroom with western toilet, shower and sink was great, and the porch with chairs, table... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ricky's Beach House is a guesthouse located on a small private beach 10 minutes walking distance from a small fishing village. The village, Nagari Sungai Pinang, is situated on the west coast of the Indian Ocean, south of Padang, the capital city of West Sumatra, Indonesia. This is a guesthouse where the most open-minded travelers meet to share their travel stories, feel the family atmosphere, discover the local lifestyle, enjoy the warm temperature of the Indian Ocean, join the acoustic live music sessions with our crew at night and be a part of community-based Eco-Tourism Project. From the terrace of our comfortable bungalows you are only a few steps away from the ocean, and behind the bungalows you’ll find typical Sumatran forests where you can spot monkeys, birds and even monitor lizards. Our friendly staff is always ready to help you and will accompany you on daytrips to beautiful remote islands, a nearby waterfall, and other places, at your request. Our Village Nagari Sungai Pinang is a small fishing village about two hours away from Padang. Here you will be welcomed into an authentic Minangkabau community and get a feeling of real Indonesian village culture, with possibilities to participate in different aspects of everyday life. Populated by about 1000 inhabitants, most of them fishermen and farmers, these villagers live an easy lifestyle without rush, fully sharing commitment and respect. The hospitality of the villagers, combined with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and the Bukit Barisan Hills, will make you feel at home as soon as you enter Nagari Sungai Pinang . Just make sure you’ll have full energy to reply to all the ‘hello’s’ from local kids when taking a walk through the village! In addition to exploring the surrounding beaches, ocean and forests, our project also offers you a chance to join the local fishermen when pull up fishing net on the beach, assist the farmers in their daily work, as well as going on a hike to the nearby waterfall, surfing for beginners, island hopping, snorkeling in many different spots, take a woodcarving course and play football with the local youth. And if you are a big fan of cooking and Indonesian food, don't miss the opportunity to learn the secrets of the local cuisine from village women. ... more   less

“the original rooms at the village are adequate - a bit worn, certainly basic (depending on your expectations of budget accom) but the new ones on neighbouring beach (10mins walk away) are superb - well realised & constructed bungalows. If you need a bit of luxury then go for the new ones (but you are less able to easily access village life) ”
