Angela and Natalia were great and informative. It was easy to check in. There is an incline to get to the hotel from where you get dropped off by car. Approxiamtely, from there it is a five minute walk uphill. From the pedestrian shopping street, there is no incline to get to the hotel. The bed was a bit firm and was on the second floor. It was very easy to hit your head on the ceiling. I am assuming that not all the rooms are designed this way. My wife chose to sleep on the couch instead as it was closer to the bathroom but unfortunately, the couches are even firmer. They did not have any mattress covers.
The pool is a nice touch. Breakfast was okay and you were constantly reminded to wear gloves which of course was no problem. Nevertheless, I have to rate it as very good overall because the location is the perfect spot. This is the only hotel I've ever stayed at that is built on an incline.

The hotel complex is very beautiful and clean. I also liked our room which was super clean and lovely decorated. The manager is a very nice person and helpful.

The pool is big and has a nice temperature, sunbeds are also provided but unfortunately you can not move them because they are fixed to the floor.

The location is superb, within some steps you are in the middle of bustling Oia, but the hotel area is very quiet.

You have to take into consideration that you can not directly access the hotel by car. There are plenty of parking zones free of charge outside the city and you have to carry your suitcase - its manageable however worth the info.

The only downturn was the breakfast. We liked it that the hotel takes Covid 19 measurements very serious so there was a buffet where lady served us. The quality of the food did not match the quality of the hotel. The omlette was put in a container which was not heated so sometimes it was already cold when we got there, also the bread and croissants seemed to be bought from a big cash and carry market and not a bakery. The bread tasted like gum.
Items like honey for the greek yoghurt were pre packed, so could never reach the quality of honey in a glass for example. There were no nuts for the greek yoghurt.
The juices (apple, orange) were packed with sugar, definitely convenience items but on the low cost side.

I do not mean to be rude to write this because the place overall is beautiful and we would definitely come back. But the breakfast could be improved.

Aethrio was in the perfect location if you’re looking to stay in the heart of Oia, just steps from all the main streets and views, but also peaceful and quiet when you’re relaxing by the pool. If you can’t afford the cliff-side sea views of the most expensive hotels in Oia, but still want to be based there you won’t find better value than this. Only down side was from the pictures I expected our balcony to have a sea view or something but I think those photos they use must be of the sunset terrace instead. We had a pool view though, but ground floor so couldn’t really see much. The staff were all really helpful and friendly and gave us good info on the local area. The hotel had blue domes, pretty flowers and is lovely to photograph just by itself. The breakfast was pretty basic and the same thing each day but still tasty and don’t let some of the bad reviews put you off. The rooms were again basic and bed quite hard, but it was spacious and all we needed for a base to explore.

We really loved this place. We only stayed the one night but we were blown away: The suites are very attractive and photogenic, very clean and safe. The grounds within the village look great, are very accessible and safe, and the pool and lounging area is nice. We were taking pictures like crazy of the villa, the pool area, and our suite within minutes of arriving.

The included breakfast is superb.

The location is perfect: it’s close to the bus drop off but also close to the main avenues of foot traffic for all the stores, restaurants, and viewing attractions. And it has its own lovely upper terrace for the Oia sunset viewing! It was a relief not to have to compete with thousands of other people for a good view of the sunset. Santorini is a very welcoming and safe place generally and we would come back here in a heartbeat.

The staff are very helpful and personable. On the day we checked out, we were able to use a hospitality room for our luggage so we could keep swimming and walking through Oia. The staff will help you with your transportation to the airport and will give a very helpful guide to the island.

It is way more affordable than most of the Villa-style accommodations in this area, and yet you still feel spoiled while you stay there. It is very much worth the money.

We just returned from a stay in August and this hotel was everything we needed and more for our visit to Oia. We held a private event on the sunset terrace and the staff were extremely accommodating. Everyone is very friendly, Aggelikki, Natalie, and the gentleman that serves lunch during the day as well as the lovely lady who manages the breakfast in the mornings. Also the gentleman that takes the luggage to and from the taxi rank was extremely polite and helpful and always working with a smile.

They were taking all the reasonable precautions for COVID - face masks required indoors in common areas and gloves needed to access the food.

The breakfast was plentiful with a variety of options that changed daily which was nice. The almond biscuits and rice pudding were lovely in particular.

For lunch I tried the tuna salad and it was so amazing I had to order it again a couple of days later.

The pool is really nice and provides a perfect break from the madness of walking the streets of Oia.

The sunset terrace has amazing views over Oia and is a great place to watch the sunset (without the crowds).

We had a studio which was very spacious and had all the self catering bits you would need.

We will definitely be back again.

Thank you to the Aethrio team for a memorable stay!

Aethrio is by far the best hotel we’ve stayed in during our trip through Greece. The room was very cosy with its own small terrace, and overall the hotel feels more like a tiny village with cute houses. The people were very kind and helped us with booking a day cruise, a rental car, transfer from and to the port, ... They speak a lot of languages (English, French, German, ...) and are always willing to help out. The breakfast was really nice with lots of different foods, with something new every day. The swimming pool is also really nice. You can order drinks from the bar and even a few things for lunch like pasta. Its location is perfect, with lots of restaurant near, and only a 1 minute walk to the ‘main street’ of Oia. Would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Santorini! Thank you for the nice stay!

At our arrival we realized the hotel wasn’t what we expected. The mattress was terrible, the shower was probably made last century, as well as the furniture. Certainly not what you expect for the price and with its rate… we absolutely do not recommend it. Even taking into account its services, when you compare it with others in the area, and considering that the location isn’t exactly good either (doesn’t have nice views, and everything is so close any other hotel can offer the same) , the price is still extremely high.

Fabulous hotel. Although it isn’t on the caldera cliff side, the location is very central and you’re in the main walkways within Oia in seconds. The staff are truly wonderful -The GM, Periklis, is a credit to the hotel and could not have been more accommodating and kind. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Aethrio really is like a village, a number of different dwellings, now rooms, arranged around a central area with a breakfast room and nice pool (though the weather was too cold when we were there to take advantage of the pool). It has a sunset patio high up above all the rooms with great sunset views as one would expect in Oia. It is an oasis of calm away from the crowds in the narrow streets of the town. The staff were very helpful with information, and when we told them we were leaving very early the next morning they put a tray with coffee and rolls in our room for breakfast!

We stayed for 3 nights here, lovely suite with access to private roof terrace. Super friendly staff with lots of local information. Greek Breakfast buffet style. Enjoyed a relaxed simple lunch with wine by the pool to escape one afternoon to escape the crowds in the sunshine for less than 10 euros.
Room perfectly serviced daily. Location is perfect for the main village attractions.

If you book a rental car where do you park it?
Answer from Darren B

There is a free parking lot off the main road next to the bus stop, about 100 m from the hotel. Busy but we always managed a spot. If not there is a larger lot across the street, perhaps 150 m from the hotel.

Dear all, If there is a strike or a "force majeur" event, we do refund the night lost, or we propose a credit note for a next stay. By the other hand, if the reservation is "non refundable", we do not refund in any case, as this kind of booking is confirmed with a special discount. Non refundable booking should be done with a good travel insurance for these case.

It takes about 30-40 mins to get there from the airport by car. There are plenty of taxis at the airport waiting to whisk you away and it should cost about 30-35 euros. Don't get caught out. My friend and I got fleeced when our pre-paid transfer didn't turn up. It was late and we were tired and a minibus taxi offered to take us and one other person, charging us 20 euros each - double what we would have paid had the three of us shared a regular taxi. I am uncertain whether the there is a direct bus service, but if you contact the Aethrio they will know. The buses on the island are great and cost only 1.80 euros per journey, however long, but I suspect you'd have to get a bus to the capital Fira, then from Fira to Oia, where it terminates in the square just 2 minutes walk to the hotel (the same place a taxi would drop you). This is all easier than you might expect, but I know when you're tired and unfamiliar with a place it sounds rather daunting. Hope this helps and enjoy your trip - lucky you, it's a fabulous place. After writing all that, I have just read the previous reply. Think we used the shuttle going back, but forgot because the cost worked out the same as a taxi if there are several of you travelling together - just nice to know you're being met though.
