We came out for a fall weekend and were lucky to secure two rooms at this down to earth gem of s place. The owners, David and Cindy Ceva are also the managers. From the moment we arrived they made us feel so special. We actually called and said we would not be arriving till 10:30pm and they were kind enough to keep the kitchen open for us. The place is very chill and one would say Bohemian. Does not have the attitude of the Hamptons which is a real bonus. If you are headed this way ... no other place to stay.
For the room nightly cost I expected a room that didn’t have windows that were painted shut or one with a loud window a/c hanging in it. Paid for an upgrade with a “garden view”, what garden? Getting colder with no heat on. Weird thing was the bed sat on the floor which made it cumbersome to get out of. Did have a nice bathroom. Montauk, been there, got a tee shirt, not impressed, left.
My friend and I stayed here to celebrate her 30th birthday and it couldn’t have been better. We wanted a low key experience and Sole East was the perfect spot. The pool and beds were comfortable and easy to reserve. The staff at the pool, especially Kim, was super friendly and helpful. We loved the Sunni Spencer pop up shop and she helped style us for a party at Surf Lodge one evening. On my return trip home, it was the day after Labor Day, and the town essentially shut down. I called an Uber to get to the train, and it was 20 minutes away! The staff offered to drive me themselves so I wouldn’t be stuck! It was my saving grace so I could get home. Definitely recommend staying here!
The hotel was decent only for what you need it for (a bed and a shower). The saving grace is the patio in the rear, which is great to sit down, chill and converse in. I know there are other hotels that include more amenities at Sole East's price point. It's a beautiful property, maintaining it's original charm, however when you get to the brass tacks it is a bit lacking in comparison to other hotels. If you do not find other affordable options, this will satisfy your "I need a place to stay for a day or two" request.
Good: -The rear patio area is beautiful -Heated pool -Restaurant conveniently located on the grounds -Free wifi -Free parking -You can drive to the beach and use Sole West's parking lot for free
Bad: -When I was in the room, 3 of TV channels did not have audio -Continental breakfast available at the restaurant but for $16.99 -Rooms did not have mini fridges, I know that beforehand but adjust accordingly -No room phone, so just call down to the lobby with your cellular
I frequent Montauk a lot and have stayed in a variety of different properties. Hamptons are always expensive between memorial day and labor day and for the price I felt like this hotel was a great value and experience. We booked last min from a Sunday to Wednesday. Room was clean and had nice Frederick Fekkai shampoo and conditioner and aveno products. Deco was a white beach vibe. The property is large with beautiful grounds with cornhole, shuffleboard, hammocks, fire pit and marshmallows at night, lounge chairs, day beds(a little worn/ dirty) by pool, towel service. You can borrow a beach pass. Bike rentals are $10/ hr or $30/day. The Backyard restaurant is pretty good. They have a continental bfast for $16. It’s a mix of families, couples, young professionals. Rooms are pretty well insulated (large fam stayed next door and I barely heard them, couldn’t hear the music from pool). Window AC. Parking lot available next to hotel and street parking in front. Only bad thing was the fire alarm going off in the room across from me from someone hotboxing? and alarming me out of bed at 5:30am one morning thinking the hotel was on fire. Didn’t feel like the GM really addressed my complaint. No beach chairs / umbrellas are available which is the only thing that could have made this visit perfect. Sole Beach (sister property) let us park in their lot when we went to the beach across the street. Overall great experience. They often times have programming scheduled Thur- Sun. I think they also offer a shuttle to the train and jitney. We coincidentally even saw three different groups of old friends we knew over the course of three days. The front desk guy /manager?! was so friendly and helpful and seemed to always be working. Bartender was great as well- gave us ice for our beach trip. Will be back! Highly recommend.
Solé East Resort, about a 5-minute walk from Montauk's village and the beach, is pretty darn sweet. It's a hip little place, renovated with our own style and hands, with a ton of great vibes and atmosphere. …MoreExpect sprinklings of luxury in the areas that matter: Simmons pillow-top mattresses and 300 thread count Italian linens, flat screen TVs and iPod docks. And be sure to ask the friendly staff anything to make your stay spectacular. Less
