We stayed here just for one night and woke up early to go hiking the next morning. The room we stayed in was comfortable and just what we needed for two people. Breakfast was delicious, and George was very helpful giving us hiking advice. A HUGE shoutout to Jenny who rescued us and picked us up when we got lost hiking and found ourselves miles away from our car in the dark. She didn't question it and picked us up in minutes-amazing people and a great place. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone hiking in the area!

We stayed at the lodge for two nights in mid July and hiked Big Slide Mountain. The self serve check-in was easy and our room (#3) was clean, cozy, and comfortable. Unfortunately we were in the middle of a heat wave so it was very warm in the room; however, the fan provided was a great help! A guest fridge was available to store our own drinks and food needed for our hike! We were very close to the Garden Parking Lot trail head which was super convenient for the early start of our hike. Laurie was very friendly and accessible by phone when she wasn't at the house.

Breakfast included fresh fruit, cereal, oatmeal, toast, bagels, fresh muffins, eggs and all the required condiments from peanut butter to maple syrup! The self-serve buffet style made it comfortable and easy.

We will definitely stay there again!

We had 2 rooms in the main lodge and the Phelps cottage for 3 adults and 2 children 4.5 and 6. We cooked like crazy having brought up cooked. Lobsters, salmon. Ratatouille spaghetti sauce. I could go on. Anyway the kitchen with dishwasher has many utensils. Dishes galore, even a pepper mill. A great hit was the firepit a short walk to the river. The innkeepers George and laurie Daniel's have terrific advice re hiking and 3 of us had left our hiking shoes home yes. We did. Laurie said the Mountaineer was great fitting boots so 3 of us went and were lovingly fitted. I am not the greatest hiker. But the boots the sold me I referred to as slippers. They were so great. The real hikers were likewise happy, especially their feet. We were there 5 nights including a sunday.
Laurie directed us to the farmers market. It was superior. Sourdough bread made by a young man who learned in brittany from his grandparents. 3 of us make bread. But this was truly fantastic. It was at marcy field, a 5 minute drive. Anyway, we loved KVL and our hosts and if you are up that way, eschew lake placid to stay although there is a great Gap outlet and interesting stores. Oh and a great park with swimming and a bath house.

10 members representing 3 generations of our family stayed here for 5 nights. Our accommodations including 2 double rooms and the adjoining Phelps cottage which housed 3 adults and 2 children were all excellent. The cottage had a well equipped kitchen including a gas range, dishwasher and plenty of dishware and glassware so that we cooked 4 elaborate dinners for all ten of us. Laurie and George are wonderful hosts with more detailed knowledge of trails, especially the less popular ones than you can find in guide books. In summary, highly recommended.

Laurie and George are you hosts at this casual and comfortable historic inn right on main street in Keene Valley. It's very much self serve, you will likely only meet one of them, at breakfast which they prepare each morning. You enter right into a large living room where, in the winter at least, a fireplace with logs waiting your match greet you. It's surrounded by comfy couches, and on weekend evenings guests grab wine they've brought (glasses and corkscrews provided!) and share tales of their days' adventures. Order take-out for dinner from the Ausable Inn (good burgers) or the Noonmark Diner (good lasagna) and enjoy it by the fire! They're very accomodating, and are delighted if you need to stay past checkout time - there's always a kettle to heat water for tea or cocoa, and an extra fridge for guests to store their own libations. They know everything about the area and have climbed every mountain and fished every river. You cannot go wrong here. If you're looking for a scenic view, it's not the place, but you can't beat the convenience of being on the main road. Don't fault them for keeping Christmas decor up well into March; better they're spending their time making you fresh muffins, plus, winter sticks around in these parts!
