If you want luxury AND wildlife, then this is the place to go to. They have elephants and hippos walking around between the chalets, so you get to enjoy them up close! (The staff makes sure you remain safe). And the main area is build beautifully in a u-shape with the pool in the middle. On one side there's the fire and bar, and the other side is the dining area. All the while having a few over the Kafue river, where you can enjoy the constant calls of the hippos. And when checking the other bank of the river, you often see elephants, crocodiles, hippos, pukus, impalas or even buffalos. It's amazing.
Ila Safari Lodge simultaneously breathes adventure and comfort. Driving up to the lodge, we already saw a huge majestic kudu, which proved to be a good omen for the rest of the trip. In one of the extremely comfortable tents that Ila offers, the mornings may start by being woken up gently at the sounds of hippos, elephants or a lion's growl. It is not unlikely to see wildlife at the premises of the lodge. If that sounds scary, don't worry - you're in the best possible hands, as one of the amazing, capable, and knowledgeable staff members escorts you as you move from your tent to the main area. The guides that do the game drives are incredible - I was amazed by their knowledge on every bird, tree, and game that we saw. To top this, you'll enjoy a glass of gin & tonic as the sun sets, sharing stories with one of the guides. The Kafue Park is one of the most beautiful national parks in the world, without a doubt, so be sure to keep an eye out for wild dogs, bushpigs, leopard, lions, and elephants. Going back to the lodge, the food is of amazing quality, and there is always a vegetarian option provided. Huge compliments to the chef for serving such great food in a rather remote place. The staff is lovely too, and takes care of your every need. Highly recommend!…
The feeling of walking through the entrance of the main building at Ila is incredible. The half-moon shape suits the style and the environment absolutely perfectly. Other than the main buildings the tents leave nothing else to be desired. The staff at Ila has clearly been there for a while, radiating hospitality and friendliness at all times throughout the day. The food they serve is equally impressive and is something to look forward to every lunch and dinner. Last, but certainly not least, the game drives in the Kafue, especially with the electric game drive vehicles, are in a league of their own. The vastness of the park really makes you feel like it’s just you and nature, rarely, if ever, meeting other game drive vehicles.
Ila is located on a beautiful location, looking out over the Kafue river. The tents are clean, have their own decks and have very comfortable beds, a beautiful bath and relaxing rain showers (with amazing water pressure). The private access to Kafue National Park is very convenient as it saves a lot of time at the main gate and allows a private exploration of the park. The usage of electric game drive vehicles by Ila also gives the game drives a whole new dimension. Not scared by the loud noises of petrol engines anymore, you can get way closer to all the wonderful animals in the Kafue. Our guide Joe was exemplary and the team of mostly locals all kind and professional.
Just wow! The moment we arrived we were greeted by an amazing team and Malemia the manager, but next to our welcome ensemble there were two giant hippo's (luckily also adhering to the safe distance we all adhere to these days). The locations is absolutely epic, overlooking the beautiful Kafue River from a U-shaped main building that embodies a tranquility and luxury unparalleled in any lodge I have visited. Next to the amazing location, the Kafue itself is a hidden gem amongst the parks of Southern Africa. There is hardly anybody there you have nature for yourself and driving in electric vehicles makes it even more special. You just get a lot closer! Truly a must see in Zambia!
