A visit to Malawi is not complete without staying a few nights at Mayoka. Gary and Catherine run a beautiful eco-friendly backpackers that feels comfortable and homely, yet still somehow wild and remote in the best sense of the word. The staff at Mayoka are incredible - always friendly, patient and up for a laugh, even letting us come up...

We love visiting Nkhata Bay and staying at Mayoka Village, a popular backpacker spot with a genuinely relaxed lakeside vibe. The bar area is outstanding, staff are lovely, free canoes and paddle boards are available, wifi is free, and accommodation is basic but superbly situated on the rocks close to the lake shore. It can get very busy, particularly at...

Beautiful beautiful spot at the bay. Great place to meet other backpackers, excellent food which is good value for money. They charged me $10 for a package of cigarettes though (!). I also stayed next door, which is cheaper, but Mayoka has better meals and free kayaks, snorkeling gear and boat rides.

A friend of mine recommended we stay here after his visit last summer, so we booked in for a few nights in the middle of August. We were surprised how busy it was, seemed like a travellers hotspot but its clear to see why - the position is brilliant, amazing access to the lake and free use of kayaks, paddle...

I have been going to Mayoka for 6yrs now and as always the owners and the staff are very friendly and very helpful. Mayoka has a very welcoming vibe, no matter who you are of where you're from. The rooms are lovely, some have been renovated adding a colourful touch. The food is delicious. I had food poisoning after eating...

There are really beautiful views of the bay from the waterfront chalets. Internally they are fine - no frills, but lots of character.Mine had a cute little balcony with couple of chairs from where to watch the locals in their dugout canoes. The buildings are attractively terraced up the side of a steep cliff, so there are many many steps,...

Its been a long time since I stayed here (2002ish for about a month), It was a great experience and I dream of going back and spending a bit of time relaxing here with my family. The Lake is amazing, I loved hearing the sound of the water and swimming each morning. I'd highly Recomend this piece of paradise.

Mixed feelings here, we stayed for a few nights and then moved on, however still found ourselves coming back to this place because of the wonderful people it attracts. You can have a lot of fun here. This place is glorified camping, as long as you don't mind the bugs and tight spaces you will thrive as you can't quite...

I stayed at Mayoka Village lodge whilst on the visit to Nkhata Bay. It's nice, many good things and some bad ones. The accommodation buildings are beautifully scattered over the side of the hill overlooking this small bay; it has its own access to the lake; the sound of water is always there; the views are great; the food is...
