We chose this Inn because the brochure said that the Innkeeper was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area and we were in Herkimer to do genealogy research. Steve’s knowledge exceeded my expectations. The bonus was that Roland’s breakfasts were wonderful, our room with the fireplace was cozy, especially after the unexpected snowfall, and the historical home with the... More

We were in Mohawk for a 50th high school reunion. We chose the Portobello Inn because of its location. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. The two gentlemen who run the inn are very friendly and offer extras along with your room and breakfast. As were enjoying a delightful breakfast meal, Steve, one of... More

Just spent two days at the portabello B&B. Roland made our stay fantastic I would rate it a ten for the hospitality and atmosphere. Roland's cooking makes him a master chef in our eyes', great breakfast spread. Would highly recommend

Stayed for two nights in the Clobridge Room in the classy Inn as a way-point from Canada to Westchester N.Y. The room was very comfortable with A/C and while a bit on the small side the price/value equation took care of that. Roland cooked excellent breakfasts during the two days: Muffins, quiche, French toast, bacon etc. He was also very... More

A two-night stay at the Portobello Inn is a treat. I used it as a base from which to go mining Herkimer diamonds and also enjoy a cruise on the Erie Canal. Roland and Steve are committed hosts. Roland graciously accommodated my dietary needs, and one evening when I returned carrying a hot Utica fish fry he offered me a... More

I felt right at home as soon as I walked in the house. The home is beautifully decorated. Roland had the AC on in the room which made it very comfortable since it was really hot & humid the day I arrived. The room was clean. The breakfast was fantastic. Everything was so good, I ate too much. Can't wait... More

I had the privilege of staying at the Portobello Inn while in town for work. Roland was gracious & accommodating and the Inn itself is gorgeous. Cozy, comfortable - felt like going to a family member's home. Highly recommend staying - such a treat!

Eleven of us descended on Roland at Portobello Inn. He is a charming host and an excellent cook. His B&B is clean, comfortable, well-appointed in every way. The beds were cushy, the coffee upstairs to have in the nook was a terrific plus. The history of this mansion is very interesting, his parlor and the art everywhere was appreciated by... More

This large welcoming home is enhanced by it's inn keeper and the talent for the warm welcome and good food. It sits on the hill with green trees, and can be viewed from the Erie Canal boat tour. We biked to this location from the Erie Canal and Roland easily handled the 11 of us arriving and settling into our... More

An Italianate mansion halfway between Herkimer and Little Falls, New York, turned into a charming bed and breakfast inn. Proprietor Roland is gracious, friendly, helpful, and solicitous. His collection of knickknacks and the beautifully preserved interior, including magnificent walnut panelling and woodwork make this B&B a gem. Roland organizes breakfast with everyone around a large table, appropriately expanded or shrunk... More
