I've driven past the Blue Inn, or the Blue Dolphin as it was formerly called, hundreds of times, but only when Covid 19 mandated a stay did I ever actually book a room. Prettily sited adjacent to a lavender farm intensely popular especially among Japanese tourists, the Blue Inn may at one time have had more reason to call itself an Inn or a Resort, but really it's a jumped up motel, a status that the pandemic has revealed all too plainly. The rooms, which have sanitizer dispensers outside each door, have kitchenettes, admittedly not usual in motels and a nice touch, but no coffee cups for the wretched little machine. Cupboards, mini fridge, all bare, so Water pressure was ok, the air conditioner and TV worked, and there was a "King" bed (two beds lashed together under a too soft mattress). Behind the main house that fronts the road there is a small outdoor pool, behind it a two story row of identikit rooms, a forlorn shuttered bar, and a restaurant, now closed. I was travelling with Lady, my 2 year old Beaglier, who is a service dog. I had to do much emailing back and forth about Lady's status, which culminated with the grudging notification that a "pet friendly" room would have to be found (I was originally booked into a room close to the pool, the room selected was at the furthest possible distance from the pool, on the second floor). When I checked in I was asked to supply"documentation" of Lady's status (not required by law). Behind the block of rooms was a fenced in area, about 13 paces wide and 60 long, for pets to do their business. All this, non functioning bar, closed restaurant, and prison yard/dog run, for $250 a night!…
