The Chateau is very nice placed on the countryside. We stayed in the Gite in the park and that was very nice as well even though we didnt share the interior decorators taste. But everything around the chateau needs tlc. The park, the pool and the inside of the chateau. Its a pity when you can see how grand it once was. They also tell on the web they speak english but that staff must have been on vacation for the week we stayed there. And you could only eat breakfast and not dinner there even though The homepage said restaurant with menu and wines.

My husband daughter and I spent 3 glorious nights here. It is tucked away and the minute you arrive you start to relax. We had 2 large rooms and both were beautiful. Beds were comfortable and it is so peaceful. The breakfasts were plentiful and we were left in peace to enjoy them. But it is the owner Christal (sorry if it's spelt wrongly) and her lovely assistant and other people we met who added to our lovely time there. On our last night we had a wonderful meal sitting outside feeling properly spoiled. We had only planned to stay 2 nights but we were so happy we stayed an extra night and she went out of her away to move furniture to accommodate us .We will be back. Xxxxx

Little chateau in the countryside near Cognac, hosted by the sweet & friendly lady of the house Christel. Beautiful house and garden, nice swimmingpool with very good chairs, really good lunch served at the swimmingpool if you want, great place to relax. Splendid breakfast with all local and homemade food. Nice room, we got a big one! Lots of fluffy cats, interioredecoration cute and funny. Felt more like staying at your sweet aunt, that's what we love!t

At one time this had to be a lovely location. Today it is not. We arrived and found no one at the chateau. We walked in and looked at the first room to the left. It was a gathering room and had a white baby grand piano with a red Chinese cloth draped over it and a lava lamp. Yes, a lava lamp! There was also a stuffed snowman dressed for Christmas propped on the top of the piano with his legs dangling over the side (this was in June). We walked into the foyer and found an envelope with our names on it and our room keys. We walked up stairs and the stench of urine, mold, mildew --whatever-- assaulted our senses and we started to gag. We continued up to look at the rooms and they were awful. We turned around, went back downstairs and left a note that we could not stay. I would have taken photos but I could not stay in the building long enough to do so. We found out later that we couldn't have stayed anyway because there was a storm the night before and they had no electricity. I had to use my emergency inhaler when I got to the car as my respiratory system could not handle what I had just experienced. I had paid them a $90 deposit for dinner for that evening for the two of us and they refunded my money immediately.

We booked this place on our way back home after a lovely time spend in the south of France. The hotel looks very promising on the website as well on booking.com however the reality is the complete opposite, I probably should have taken some pictures of the reality in comparing with the pictures shown, but I just want to forget this place asap.
There is a general lack of maintenance inside and outside of the place; The swimming pool is dirty, the plants outside are dead, dead leaves all over the place, paint is coming off wherever it can, there are messy plants half dead in literally each corner of the place, scary decorations (dolls!!) which gives it a dirty, unorganized impression. The rooms are spacious but again it needs a deep refurbishment.
When we arrived, we had to wait nearly an hour before we were able to find someone who could give us our room key. There was a paper with written on it that this was not a hotel but a Chambres d'hôte, and that it was not possible for them to be there 24/7 (which is understandable)but, that in that case, written instructions how to go to your room + keys would be ready for you.
For us this was not the case.
After waiting, knocking on doors and searching the place for a sign of life, (the only life we could find were 20 cats on the terrace, some of them bringing a mouse or answering nature's call on the terrace (very nice welcome)).
We were ready to leave this place and search for an alternative place to sleep close to Cognac, when we decide to just walk one more round, and by chance I found a blurred peace of paper on the outside gate hidden behind some plants, saying that if nobody would be present to turn to the distillery across the street. Finally someone was able to bring us to our room.
It would be maybe a good suggestions to put that paper inside to avoid your guests waiting.
The day after, when we went down for breakfast, there was nobody, just a table waiting for us and a little buffet. We barely touched our breakfast as we were just too scared to touch anything over there, besides that, the bread was not fresh, the only good thing was the pain au chocolat and the croissant, but one of each which is a bit weird for 2 persons.
I know that this is not a 5 star hotel, but the lack of maintenance (which is easy to resolve with some paint and tidying) doesn't give it a welcoming impression and neither does the lack of presence of the owner/staff. It all feels a bit like you get served by ghosts from the past....
In my opinion it would be a good idea as well to have contact with arriving guest before, maybe ask for their arrival time so someone could be present and ask at what time we want to have breakfast (since we were the only guests anyway) This is how we experienced it in previous Chambre d'Hôtes and it was a very pleasant experience.

If travelling to this area of Bordeaux consider this as one of your top options. The Chateau has spacious rooms, a heated pool, extensive gardens and much more. Above all though it is an experience in genuine french hospitality and cuisine. We travelled as a family with two teenage boys - who were of course pleased to find a good Wifi connection!!
We were suprised at the high quality bathrooms and sheer space in our rooms with large bed and wonderful views across the gardens.
The Chateau public rooms are beautiful.
We opted to eat our evening meals there and these were of a very high standard indeed including wine.
I also feel I must recommend the Chateau's own desert wine a Pineau. This was all too quaffable!
Lastly I feel obliged to thank the owner Christel and her son for all their help during the visits my wheelchair bound father made to us here. He had a couple of very pleasant afternoons by the pool and in the gardens. These are two very genuinely kind and professional hosts.
I will be returning.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house is lovely and the pool was appreciated in the hot weather, The evening meal was beautifully prepared and served (the pudding was slightly disappointing though) and the breakfast was superb. The only room left when we booked was the budget room but this was a good size with a fine view over the church and was attractively decorated and this and the en suite shower room were spotless.
This is so much better than a corporate hotel - you feel you are staying in a real country house. There may not be someone on the desk 24/7 but the hosts could not have been more helpful.
After the evening meal, we went for a stroll and on crossing a stream looked down to see 6 otters swimming under the footbridge. Adjacent to the hotel is a hide where you can watch them - they were so close you could have reached out and touched them!
I wish we could have stayed longer and I would recommend this place to anyone.

A few days before our reservation we received an email saying that Athough we had requested dinner, the restaurant was going to be closed that evening. With hindsight we now realise that we should have cancelled our booking as we had purposely chosen to stay there because it was possible to dine there & after a long day travelling wouldn’t want to go out again that evening. Anyway we arrived late afternoon to find the only welcome was from numerous cats! After knocking at various doors we realised one door was unlocked so, much to my horror, my husband went in. In the Hall was a small table with three folders on it - one of which had our name on it. There was an explanation saying she was out collecting her son from school. The note also explained where I room was & asked us to complete a form which asked if we wanted tea or coffee for breakfast. We followed the instructions to our room which was ok & decided to sit outside on the patio to await our host’s return. We could then ask her to advise us about suitable places to eat. Nobody arrived so we decided to returned to our room to get ready to go out & find a restaurant. As we came down the stairs we heard someone talking on the phone in the hall. This person totally ignored us so we politely waited outside expecting them to come out & introduce themselves. This didn’t happen & they disappeared somewhere inside the house! My husband texted our host to ask what was going on & received a reply to say that she was at the Cognac festival & the male we saw was her son!! The two other families staying that night seemed equally puzzled but as they were French perhaps she had given them more warning of her plans. All in all a very surreal experience!!!

We arrived later than planned on Tuesday evening hungry and tired . Christel wasn't phased that we were vegetarian and rustled up a tasty selection of salads, bread and lovely chilled red wine.
We were the only guests for 3 of our 4 nights, and felt privileged that we were able to share their enchanting family Chateau. Christen doesn't speak too much English, but got her son Nicholas, to help us connect to the wifi, which is a little temperamental. Breakfast was a generous selection of bread, cheeses, croissants, cereal, juices and yogurts, served by the lovely friendly helper.
The grounds are so relaxing and worth exploring. They have the essence of a more privileged past, with abandoned ornamental ponds and exquisite but unused and tired coach houses.
The swimming pool however is cleaned and covered. We arrived back at the chateau, tired and hot and sun loungers had appeared ready for us.we used the pool twice and loved the setting. Surrounded by majestic trees and roses.
There isn't really anything else to do in the evenings, except relax outside with a glass of wine, and enjoy the company of the resident cats. ( the cushions for the outdoor furniture, are in the salon, )We counted 8 good natured cats. The salon/ sitting room is across from the dining room and you just make yourself comfy. Nicholas and Christel joined us one evening as Nicholas had to practice his piano playing. So we had a lovely time listening to him play Bach on the baby grand.
Our room overlooked the church at the rear of the chateau. The room was adequate, with an ensuite shower room. The decor throughout is dated but we felt it added to the family,s enigmatic past.
For us it was a privilege to spend time here, and felt welcomed.
