We were recommended Die Gat by friends, so thought we'd give it a try. We stayed 3 nights in the aptly named "honeymoon suite". If you want the sterile environment of a hotel chain then forget this place - it has to be one of the most unusual places we've been to. The rooms are full of character - some...

De Rust is in the Eastern part of the Western Cape. Beautiful Drive and Mountain passes to explore. Five kilometres outside town is ' DIE GAT' It is a farm stay. The hosts have 5 cottages to choose from. Driving into the property is a wonderful garden. The farmers Anton and Susannah where wonderful hosts and the table had wonderful...

We went to De Rust to run the Meiringspoort 21km and stayed at Die Gat the night before the race. It is extremely well kept and the attention to detail was amazing. The hospitality of Anton was outstanding and we were extremely impressed with the lovely room we stayed in. If you like "Old world charm" this one is for...

Having been recommended Die Gat we decided to give it a try on a road trip ya rough the Klein Karoo and subsequently enjoyed what can only be described as a unique and perfect typically Afrikaans hospitality experience. Located just outside the tiny town of De Rust and 5 km down a hard packed earth road (fine for regular cars)...

Thank you for an absolute wonderful stay. The attention to detail in everything just kept on surprising us. We were exceptionally comfortable and not only was there a fireplace with a lit fire on our arrival, but there was a heater, aircon and electric blankets too! I must congratulate Susan on probably the best breakfast I have ever had. What...

Thank you Susan, for taking such loving care of your property. From the moment we drove through the gates, it was just so obvious that you love what you do and that you care for your guests comfort. Breakfast's were fantatstic and prepared with care and detail - pity we didn't get the chance to do dinner with you, we...

A museum-like bedroom and inviting swimming pool set in lovely grounds. But the highlight has to be the food, splendidly cooked and most beautifully presented by Susan, with insightful and fascinating conversation from Anton. Thank you.

I didn't stay the night here, but I did have some amazing food and service. The owners are fantastic and are extremely friendly. The location is absolutely beautiful, doesn't even like South Africa anymore - I though it had a bit of a European appeal to it which is different for a change.

What a beautiful place - the farm ambience, 5* rooms and meals. The attention to detail from the rooms through the garden to the table setting. Susan is such a creative woman. The dinner table as well as the meal was superb! Breakfast was also a feast. I felt like a queen. Close to a beautiful little village called De...

“The Cango Caves a must as well as the wildlife experience in Oudtshoorn a must where you have a one to one with Cheetahs truly one of the highlights of your visit. Oudtshoorn a truly lovely place to visit also. Do not book dinner elsewhere,,, no need. You will feel left out of the whole package Die Gat has to offer. The culinary experience here is one the reasons of a great stay here.”
