Travellers' Choice
The Roadrunner Lodge Motel is an award winning fabulous retro-boutique 1960s motel decked out in mid-century style located directly on historic Route 66. We won USA Today's #1 roadside motel in 2021 (thank you, former guests and fans!) and we consistently earn high praise from many of our guests. That said, we aren't for everyone. For the traveler wanting the big chain experience, we might not be the best fit. But for those on an adventurous road trip, we are just the ticket! We have a limited number of dog friendly rooms. Please contact us directly to confirm availability of a suitable room for you and your pup(s). This motel offers period accommodations with modern amenities including premium bedding, plush towels, lightning fast Wi-Fi internet, and satellite channels on HDTVs. If the weather is right, bring your favorite beverage out to either of our fire pits and share your road trip experiences with our guests from around the country and around the world. Ask for our lawn bowling set or other outdoor games or just listen to our 1960s radio station complete with music and commercials from the time. Our guest rooms were built in the 1960s and are smaller than new facilities. They do NOT have coffee makers, refrigerators, or microwaves in them. These amenities are available either in our lobby or in our shared courtesy room along with ice and a coin-operated laundry.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The mattress was very comfortable. Room was clean and done in retro. Being the vintage we are we appreciated the effort put in to keeping it in retro period. Love the Nash parked out front. Best thing our doggie was welcome (with proper reservations.) David who greeted me at check in very personable.

That’s what the Roadrunner Lodge said. Made me laugh. Loved our retro king room with the Magic fingers for a quarter, RC Cola & moon pies as well as retro radio with music and ads from the heyday of 66. Absolutely great location on the Route. Walked to Del’s for dinner and Kix on 66 for breakfast…just across the street. Every detail was vintage 66, including “sanitized for your protection” toilet and “sparkling clean” bags covering real wine glasses! Everything was clean and comfy.

We're so glad you found us and chose one of our Snazzy 60s experience rooms! Those are the only rooms on the property with the extra features such as glassware, the Magic Fingers vibrating bed massager, and RC Cola to accompany your moon pies. As you know, they are rather popular and sometimes they sell out, so if you want one on your next trip to Tucumcari, please plan in advance to improve the odds we still have one available. Thank you for choosing Roadrunner Lodge Motel and we hope to see you again soon. Safe travels!

The beds are so comfortable and being able to park at our door and not in a big parking a lot is a safety measure that important for us. We do not worry about our car getting broken into and a decent restaurant close by is another plus. We appreciate those keeping Route 66 alive

Thank you for choosing Roadrunner Lodge Motel. We're thankful your experience of our beds was so positive. As you know, we have a super safe property with some of the best lighting in town. The parking lots and even the dog-friendly yard stay lit overnight. And yes, we are within walking distance of several nice restaurants and Route 66 themed gift shops. We hope to see you again soon. Safe travels!

Its next door neighbor, The Blue Swallow, is better known; however, the Roadrunner Lodge is a blast from the past as well. This restored motel on Route 66 features mid-century style with modern comfort and conveniences. A 60’s “radio broadcast” features old shows and commercials as you enter the room which is as welcoming as any “modern” accommodation located on the I-40. Located in the heart of Tucumcari, this lodge offers a taste of Route 66 history when motorists made “Tucumcari Tonight!” a destination.

Though the website speaks of lightening fast internet, I could not connect either via my phone or laptop. Standard cellular data is nil in this area of the city. Were it not for this, the room and facilities are as advertised. Rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable. If you need to connect to the web, find someplace else.

I sure wish you had called our guest services number or otherwise informed the front desk when you had a challenge connecting. In the very few times we've had to help our guests connect, we've been able to resolve the problem to their satisfaction. There's a YouTuber who frequents our business in part because video uploads complete in minutes instead of hours. (Of course, he likes many of our other 1960s experience features as well.) Most cell phones work in Tucumcari as well. I've held plenty of video calls over our internet without any issues. We have enterprise class wifi equipment and we could support at least a couple of dozen people streaming HD content simultaneously. I'm sorry you had a poor experience at Roadrunner Lodge Motel and I hope we have the opportunity to impress you on a future visit. Safe travels.

We were very delighted with the work done on the Roadrunner Lodge to bring the past back! CJ and Dave have done any amazing job even including their own radio transponder to play music and commercials from the 50’s and 60’s. The room was very clean, the service impeccable. They have an outdoor area for sitting with grass and a burn pit at night. Thank you for an amazing stay!

We flew our plane from MI and stopped at Tucumcari for the night. Jacob at the airport recommended the Roadrunner Motel which is on Route 66. The lobby and exterior set the nostalgic mood. (Old frig, exercise belt, other memorabilia). The owner took us to our room that provided a view of the hills across street (highway in between). Grounds are very nice: fire pit, parking in front; room was very clean and well appointed with little moon pies on the table. King bed was comfy. A/c is something you’d expect in an old motel. So be prepared. Outside the lobby was a box of towels to wipe off motorcycles or cars. There is an old radio in the room that played music and ads from the 1940s, which was a hoot. “RCA is introducing a new 19 inch TV”!! And a lot of cigarette commercials that doctors claimed would not be harmful. Bathroom very clean and neat. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to look around the area. Many of the famed neon signs were damaged during a 2023 signs. Eat at Del’s across street. Very good food. Overall a very nice stay and would highly recommend if you’re traveling through.

Thank you for choosing Roadrunner Lodge Motel during your stopover in Tucumcari! We're always delighted to hear when locals, like Jacob, recommend us. It sounds like you truly immersed yourself in the ambiance we've worked hard to create, from our vintage radio broadcast to the memorabilia throughout the property. We're glad you found comfort in your room and enjoyed our unique touches, like the moon pies. It's unfortunate the neon sign damage from a hail storm earlier this year spoiled some of your viewing pleasure, but the spirit of Route 66 remains alive and well. We hope if your travels (or flights) bring you back this way, you'll have a bit more time to explore. Until then, we wish you safe travels!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Roadrunner Lodge. The sixties decor is what we both grew up with and awesome to see. The price was right and the folks there were great! Should we make it back there again we will stay there again. Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Roadrunner Lodge! When we entered our room, the light was on, music was playing on the vintage radio, and the room was comfortably cool! Everything was neatly arranged and immaculate. There were fluffy towels, too! The host who checked us in was friendly and welcoming and gave us a great recommendation for breakfast the next morning--Kix on 66--which was just across the street. This was such a great treat on our Route 66 roadtrip!

We hope the rest of your road trip was filled with more wonderful surprises, and should you ever pass through Tucumcari again, we look forward to welcoming you back. Safe travels!

We had to stay in a motel during our travels through Tucumcari due to the high temps(we were to camp). We found the experience great! Our pooch was even given a welcome with a cookie, water bowl, and towel. They motel has a dog park. It has a shaded covering. The water bowls in the dog park had ice! Very nice. The room was cool with ac. The bed and sitting area comfortable. The bath room was clean and the towels were the right size. I only wish there were more things to see and do because I would have liked to stay longer.

We're so glad you found comfort with us during those sweltering temperatures. Camping is a joy, but sometimes Mother Nature has other plans! We're thrilled both you and your furry friend felt welcomed and appreciated. Our goal is to make every guest, two-legged or four, feel right at home. In spite of Tucumcari's size, we hope the charm of our town and the Roadrunner Lodge Motel made up for it. Should your travels bring you back this way, or if you ever need another break from camping, we'll be here with a cool room and a warm welcome. Safe travels!
