We stayed one night on the way to the Grand Canyon. Very nice, clean room and looks new. Comfy bed and quiet considering hotel looked pretty full. The shower in our room was amazing! Breakfast is standard complimentary items but was fresh and hot. Not alot of choices in area as far as entertainment or restaurants but there is a Taco Bell, McDonald's & Pizza Hut within walking distance. Pizza Hut was a tasty choice for us.
Only concern is that hotel wifi is not secured but we have VPN on our devices so just had to turn that on.

Pros: quiet, decent beds (except the pullout sofa, where the springs practically came through the mattress), fast food nearby, friendly staff.
Cons: pool/spa closed which was expected due to COVID-19. Our biggest complaint was the “breakfast”. There was just a measly selection of tiny bowls of cereal, green “oranges” (bananas or apples would have been nice), only two types of muffins (one that contained nuts and we have a nut allergy in our group), something that resembled an omelet but didn’t taste like one, sausage that no one in my group liked (including my son who eats everything) and yogurt. Only milk or orange juice to drink. Not even coffee or tea. We stayed at the HIE in Guymon OK on 7/3 and their breakfast was much better than this HIE. They even had to-go bowls of oatmeal with single-serving containers of brown sugar, raisins or walnuts. Several different types of fruits and pastries, teas, coffee, several juices, omelets, scrambled eggs...the only thing you couldn’t do was make your own pancakes and waffles. I booked HIE on our way back home expecting the two to be comparable...not even close. I recommend the management of this HIE take a lesson from the HIE in Guymon regarding breakfast.

Room (we had 2 queen suite with sleeper sofa) was clean, bright, spacious. Beds soft but reasonably comfy (better for back sleepers). Nice blackout curtain. Comfy office chair. Bathroom was roomy, shower pressure was great, nice touch to have nightlight built into wall outlet. Plenty of USB ports. Microwave, fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, shower toiletries in room. Breakfast: due to COVID we had to ask an attendant for hot and cold items (omelette, bacon, milk, juice, yogurt). Muffins, cereal, apples (wrapped), bananas, coffee out on tables. We could eat in dining area. Masks required in public spaces. Employees very friendly. There was a gas station next door for evening purchases (ice cream, drinks, meds).

We have stayed at this HIE location in the past on our cross country driving trips, and it is one of the better ones in this region of the southwest. On this trip, we did have issues during our initial check-in....the first room they gave us had not been cleaned, the second room did not have working A/C, but the third room was just fine. Kudos to the front desk staff for their ability to finally find us a good room. Overall we enjoyed our stay, even though it was only one night, and we would stay there again.

This is HIE in its newest incarnation-- modern, bright, spotlessly clean. But we found the physical plant to be much better than the staff working there. The mini-frig did not have a freezer element, so as we always do at HIEs in this case, we took our bags of dry ice down to the front desk to be laid over in the staff freezer. Only the gentleman at the front desk apparently did not know that dry ice will not freeze in the refrigerator (which, in any event, we had in our room), so it came back to us in the morning in a fully liquid state. As for the pool/hot tub area, it was open, but no one seems to have checked that the hot tub was functioning properly (it wasn't). And the worst sin of all? At 7:30 in the morning, there was no coffee to be had.
In sum, this was not an experience that I would want to have again.

I can not recommend staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Tucumcari — sure the hotel itself is very nice, but Tucumcari is very run down. The biggest problem is that there are very few places to eat in the city. That’s a major problem when traveling. I would recommend staying at a different Holiday Inn Express down the road — surely the infrastructure will be better there.

Bring a step stool if you are vertically challenged as these beds are higher than normal (I'm 5'2" and was glad I had a small fold up step stool in the car to use). The bathroom has no towel rods or hooks and the tub shower gel, shampoo and conditioner apparatus is located directly in the way of the shower spray so one gets a face full of spray while trying to use the gel/shampoo and conditioner. Poor planning in its placement. The shower/tub floor is slippery and our shower seemed to slant toward the drain, the bathroom door needed painting and there was a chip in the tub. All minor inconveniences but kept our stay from being rated a 5. Breakfast had crisp bacon as well as turkey sausage and the cheese omelets were cooked to perfection. Cinnamon rolls were good. Juice machine worked well and the juice was full flavored. Room was clean. It was annoying that someone was playing basketball near our room after 11 p.m. and we also had some noise issue with footsteps overhead very late at night but overall the experience was a good one.

It's difficult to provide in depth feedback for a hotel where one has spent less than 7 hours when simply passing through on a road trip, as was the case on our visit here this past October. We arrived very early in the morning after a 10 hour drive and were away again before 8am.

We called the hotel to let them know how late we would arrive and the staff were friendly then and when we interacted with them on arrival. We were able to find the property easily, it is very convenient for the interstate, and were able to check in quickly and there was plenty of parking. All of these things are a must when on a one night roadtrip stay and the hotel did them well.

The room we had was very comfortable and we all slept well for the short night we were here. There was breakfast laid on from early and there was a pretty good selection although it was disappointing that the pancake machine was inoperative that morning as I was intrigued to give that a try. There was a good choice of oatmeal, baked goods, breads and more hearty fare as well, so everyone should find something them like. We ate quickly and were on our way although the dining area is a pleasant place to eat breakfast.

Overall the hotel was clean and efficient and the staff helpful which for me, on this stop, was all I wanted as I imagine is the case for most guests here. It must be hard to run a hotel which is basically for one night stays as the short time most people are under your roof means that everything must be good because we just want to sleep, eat in the morning and be on our way without delays or fuss and the Holiday Inn did this very well for our stay. I can't imagine I will pass through Tucumcari very often but if and when I do I will certainly be happy to reside here again.

Been staying at HIE for most of our trip and it was amazing just how different each property and state was with requiring masks. The HIE in Springfield,Mo,Medical District was spectacular and went out of their way to give us service and a nice hot breakfast too. Now I understand each place is run differently but some were definitely better than others. Given that there is a pandemic going on, I would say, this property did what they thought was best and rooms were clean and fresh as was the lobby. They had their ice machines on second floor not a biggie. They offered hand sanitizer thru out the property. Front desk was efficient. Not a bad place to stay and close to I-40 so that was a plus, also close to fast food if wanted. Would recommend

My usual Route 66 motel was booked so I went with the Holiday Inn because it’s easy and consistent. I didn’t expect it to rate so well but the staff went out of their way to make everything pleasant and enjoyable. After I left I realized I had left my phone charger and the actually found it and called me to say they would hold it for me on my way back through! It was a small thing, easily replaceable, but such a nice touch.
The room was clean and comfortable, breakfast above average, highly recommended.

JanetBezz, We loved to hear that you booked us instead and are so happy you enjoyed your stay with us. We do pride ourselves in meeting a consistency that you expect when staying at a Holiday Inn Express, however we also pride ourselves on the people that this small town bring into the hotel. We are glad you experienced both and hope you chose us again.
