Our experience at MalaMala was otstanding! The accommodations were excellent with both his and her bathrooms, a view directly to the river and wildlife all the way to our deck. (No elephants, but deposits that clearly showed they had been there) Jacques--our ranger--did an outstanding job showing us the "big five" within the first two outings! All in all an...

What a brilliant experience. This was the highlight of our holiday and a 5 star experience all round. The staff were wonderful, the Rangers were brilliant- Brendon was ours for the duration and was so knowledgeable and helpful. We saw the big five and more, and we were so close it was unbelievable. We will never forget our first safari...

After consulting a former safari camp owner now living in the USA, I was encouraged to try Mala Mala Main Camp in South Africa. It is a 2 hour drive from the Nespruit airport serving Kruger Park. I took my two adult sons on this special trip with high hopes to see African wild life. And see them we did....

I cannot imagine a more perfect safari experience than that offered at MalaMala Main Camp (although I know there are more "upscale" properties as part of its overall portfolio). What makes a stay at MalaMala so special, aside from the posh accommodations and excellent food/beverage service, is the way the Rangers become part of your "family" during a stay. Not...

What a special place Mala Mala is, made more special by the Rangers and all the staff. Like previous reviewers we have safaried in Kenya twice before but this seemed far more special and an intimate experience with the animals and the land helped so much by our ranger Rohan. These guys and from this week the first girl ranger...

Mala Mala was a 5 star experience all around. Game viewing exceeded expectations. We saw the Big 5 in the first day of our four day trip. But each day had its own highlights -- lions stalking, leopards mating, giraffes necking, a leopard munching on an impala snack, elephants drinking at the river, and cheetahs walking along as cool as...

We stayed for 2 nights as part of a tour. We had done another safari previously in Kenya, which also involved a hotel stay in the park. Because we had done it before neither of us were particularly excited. However our experience here absolutely blew us away! The rooms are fabulous and well kitted out, but the best part was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
MalaMala Game Reserve is the Safari Industry's blueprint to the luxury photographic safari. In existence since 1927, this massive thriving tract of land produces the most exciting wildlife experience this side of the equator. MalaMala Game Reserve is the largest private Big Five game reserve in South Africa. Comprising 13 300 ha (33 000 acres), MalaMala shares a 19 km (12 mile) unfenced border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and lies strategically sandwiched between the National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve. For over four decades, Michael Rattray has remained focused on his objective to preserve and protect the land over which he is custodian. Allowing nature to move to its innate rhythm, guests experience today what the forefathers of the African Safari would have experienced at the turn of the century. This philosophy has paid off, as experienced by a veritable collection of photojournalists and film-makers who have made MalaMala their destination of choice to capture footage of wildlife viewing that would rival any Hollywood production for thrilling and breathtaking animal encounters. MalaMala's Camps (MalaMala Main Camp, Sable Camp and Rattray's on MalaMala) are the embodiment of an authentic safari experience pioneered at a time when the safari was simple - unassuming camps, vast sweeping plains, the African sky and the bush in all its splendour. Wellness was the feeling after a long day in the wild. Cigars were shared without pomp and ceremony. Guests to MalaMala will still spend hours beneath an inky sky in the traditional boma exchanging stories from the wild - a sumptuous meal, good company and relaxed faces warmed by the crackling fire, accompanied by the nocturnal symphony of sound. ... more   less
