My family traveled to Mala Mala on my first trip to South Africa and it was incredible! Facilities were incredible, rooms are fantastic, and game viewing is amazing. I could not give this camp higher marks. Our guide helped us see so many different animals. We got to see the Big 5 in one day! The main lodge with the...

We visited South Africa and Botswana to view and photograph game. We arrived as family of 15 on a one hour air charter from Johannesburg. MalaMala Camp is two camps--the main MalaMala Camp and the smaller MalaMala Sable Camp--located close to one another. We stayed at the Mala Mala Sable Camp a smaller camp that holds about 20 guests. The...

We were a group of 19 friends & family travelling in south africa for a birthday celebration. This part of the trip was definitely the highlight. The property is intimate and comfortable - good food & friendly staff. Loved the bar and the bartender had plenty to cope with! Wi-fi is free but erratic. The Rangers, Brendon, Jonty and Aiymar...

My wife and I wanted to see if our passion for the close up viewing of the Big 5 was still running through our veins after so long away from the bushveld. MalaMala did not disappoint. We stayed for 4 nights at Sable Camp and the 8 game drives delivered close up sightings of 29 different mammals including the Big...

If you have one place to go for your African Adventure, make it MalaMala. We went on a family vacation in June 2016 to Africa and this was one of our stops. We saw more wildlife here than our other locations and we saw it consistently during our morning and afternoon game drives. Our ranger (Bnz) knew how to get...

This was our second stay at Mala Mala, the first in the main camp and this time in the smaller Sable Camp which has its own dining area, guides, and staff. This is a stunning property, luxurious in every sense of the word. Huge suites with his and her bathrooms, king size bed, desk and dressing tables, seating area with...

This was my second trip to Mala Mala and was just as wonderful as the first. Fabulous food, perfect accommodations and amazing bush drives. Paul and Monet were very knowledgeable guides and fun to be with. The wildlife was incredible. We saw many more animals in winter than I saw in Fall on my visit in 2014. Cannot wait to...

Four kids and their spouses were invited by their parents for a celebration trip to Africa. After a long flight from the USA, we started out in MalaMala Sable Camp in South Africa and had an amazing experience. Key contributors to our amazing experience were the two Rangers: Adi and Dave and the staff under the leadership of Ryan. I...

Our travel agent booked us into the Main Camp but we were switched to Sable Camp to balance out work load for staff. We think this was a no cost upgrade for us. The guides here are more than guides. They are your total contact for all services. Our main complaint is that it took the front desk over 24...

We have stayed in multiple reserves in Kenya but MalaMala was absolutely over the top! The rangers were incredibly knowledgable (and they are with you nearly 100% of the time, sharing their knowledge over meals too), the staff very attentive, the food was outstanding (with many vegetarian options). Our room was amazing with two bathrooms in each connecting double (4...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
MalaMala Game Reserve is the Safari Industry's blueprint to the luxury photographic safari. In existence since 1927, this massive thriving tract of land produces the most exciting wildlife experience this side of the equator. MalaMala Game Reserve is the largest private Big Five game reserve in South Africa. Comprising 13 300 ha (33 000 acres), MalaMala shares a 19 km (12 mile) unfenced border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and lies strategically sandwiched between the National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve. For over four decades, Michael Rattray has remained focused on his objective to preserve and protect the land over which he is custodian. Allowing nature to move to its innate rhythm, guests experience today what the forefathers of the African Safari would have experienced at the turn of the century. This philosophy has paid off, as experienced by a veritable collection of photojournalists and film-makers who have made MalaMala their destination of choice to capture footage of wildlife viewing that would rival any Hollywood production for thrilling and breathtaking animal encounters. MalaMala's Camps (MalaMala Main Camp, Sable Camp and Rattray's on MalaMala) are the embodiment of an authentic safari experience pioneered at a time when the safari was simple - unassuming camps, vast sweeping plains, the African sky and the bush in all its splendour. Wellness was the feeling after a long day in the wild. Cigars were shared without pomp and ceremony. Guests to MalaMala will still spend hours beneath an inky sky in the traditional boma exchanging stories from the wild - a sumptuous meal, good company and relaxed faces warmed by the crackling fire, accompanied by the nocturnal symphony of sound. ... more   less
