One of the exciting things about going on safari is not knowing what you'll find around the next corner - every drive is an adventure, and given the wildness of the reserves it is impossible to guarantee the Big Five.
That said, the Sabisand Reserve (within which Kirkman's Kamp is situated) is rich in game and gives you one of the best opportunities in Africa of seeing the Big Five. Game movements in this area aren't seasonal, so your chances don't vary depending on season - although the bush is lusher at this time of year.

My husband and I took malorone pills and sprayed with Deet . We have been lucky to have no reaction (this was our 3rd or 4th time taking Malorone.) Our travelling companion had such a negative reaction to the pills that she stopped taking them after day 2. Regarding long sleeves, just make sure they are light shirts, it can get very warm (at least it was in December) during the day. We loved Kirkmans.
