I went here with family and a friend for a two night stay while we visited the area. We came near the end of so-called monsoon season in NM and the area was thus extra beautiful, green, with lots of wild flowers and wonderful temperatures--I recommend early Sept after the tourist season ends! Our reason for going was simply to...

Thank you for your review of the Casa del Gavilan. The monsoon season ensured that the area (and our courtyard) were very green, which makes a visit that much more enchanting. I am pleased that the wildlife made an appearance-they are always entertaining to watch. It certainly sounds like you found the relaxation you were seeking. I am looking forward...

My brother, sister and I stayed here for two nights over the Labor Day weekend. Right away we were impressed with the serene setting that surrounded the buildings which provided a peaceful atmosphere. No TV and very little internet connection were a welcome addition. Alison provided excellent breakfasts, and the housekeeper did an excellent job of keeping everything so clean....

The Casa is surrounded by Philmont Scout Ranch. Great vistas of the surrounding mountains. Outstanding view of the "Tooth Of Time" Allison, the Innkeeper is wonderful. Great breakfast in the morning. Snacks, sodas, coffee and tea available all day. A perfect place to relax and unwind.

My husband and I were fortunate to stay at Case del Gavilan this past weekend. We were greeted by Alison who was as professional and friendly as could be. She also prepared an awesome breakfast for us which included French Toast, fresh fruit, blueberry compote and sausages. The guest room was very nice and clean. There are no TVs here,...

After a long day of travel, spending the night at Casa del Gavilan refreshed my soul. The room was comfortable, the Inn keeper was so sweet, the breakfast was wonderful. We stayed in the guest house and spent time reading in the library and living room.

We have stayed at Casa del Gavilan several times and it is a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. No distracting TVs but internet is available for those who can't be totally away from technology but nothing else to take away from the gorgeous views and restful style of this historic inn. The breakfasts are delicious...

My boyfriend and I only stayed one night at the Casa del Gavilan, but we wished we had stayed longer! The architecturally stunning and pearl white exterior of the Casa del Gavilan is nestled in a valley of sunflowers, and backed up against the rocky peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Range. We phoned in at the iron gate before...

Casa del Gavilan provided a wonderful overnight experience. From the highway, you drive for almost 30 minutes past a couple of small towns and some beautiful scenery. Finally, you see the sign and turn toward a gate that opens only when you are buzzed in. On the lengthy driveway you will pass some antelope and wildflowers. Our room, Narin, was...

Heading out of Oklahoma via the panhandle, we were about 4hrs behind our schedule. Originally heading for Taos, we found just enough data service to find Casa Del Gavilan in Cimmaron. Honestly, having driven through Cimmaron numerous times (keyword=through) I wasn't expecting much. We called Jo, the innkeeper, to make our reservation and get directions, and headed west again. It...

Years ago a bunch of rich guys owned all the land in this beautiful valley. One of them gave a huge tract of land to the Boy Scouts, which became the Philmont Scout Ranch. Another one built this wonderful home which is now a B&B. If you're looking to reconnect with the 14 year old in you who came here...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Cimarron, New Mexico, is the historic inn, Casa del Gavilan. A place of spirit--where hawk and eagle soar--this grand adobe villa was built about 1912 for Jack and Gertrude Nairn, formerly of Hartford, Connecticut. When completed, artists and writers from far and wide came to enjoy the Nairns' elegant hospitality and to capture the majestic beauty that is New Mexico. With twelve-foot high ceilings, vigas, and eighteen-inch thick walls, Casa del Gavilan (House of the Hawk) is a showplace of Pueblo-revival architecture exhibiting artwork and sculptures by Frederick Remington, Charles Russell, Robert Redbird, and others.Completely surrounded by Philmont Scout Ranch, and a mile from Philmont's base camp, the Casa del Gavilan (also known as the Nairn Place) offers exceptional views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, hiking trails, and the peace and tranquility so rare these days. The guest rooms all have private baths and a full breakfast is served daily. ... more   less
