We were actually looking for a place to camp, but the sun went down, and someone suggested the St. James. What a hoot. Loved touring all the open antique cowboy rooms. I thought Bat Masterson was just the guy I watched on TV with my Dad. Official bullet holes in the ceiling of the bar and no problem waiting for...

We were returning from a ski trip and accidentally found this hotel. It is really a museum with lodging that we did not know was there. We ate the best breakfast, toured the old hotel, and decided the next time that we went skiing that we would stop a night and stay at the St. James Hotel. Our teenage boys...

My girlfriend and I decided to make the drive up from Albuquerque to have a fun weekend. We have seen programs and heard stories about the ghostly happenings at this hotel and we wanted to check it out. The building has been around since the 1800s but it is very well kept! We we pleased with the service, the restaurant...

This place is phenomenal!! We are so lucky that it's owner, Mr. Robert Funk, is evidently a history buff who keeps this historic gem open and running. It has the perfect blend of historic accuracy and modern convenience available onsite. The St. James, awash in the feelings of yesteryear, conveyed warmth and inviting hospitality to us, despite it's rather remote,...

We stayed here with our teenagers we had 2 rooms one in the main hotel (Doc Holiday) and one in the newer part - walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night is a bit unnerving but lots of fun! We played cards in the poker room and enjoyed little practical jokes on each other all evening. Weren't...

Just enjoyed a lovely Trout Almond in for dinner tonight, nicely seasoned with fresh cooked vegetables! Nice service, friendly people! Decor is western heritage from the area with great art and other collections.

The St James has great historic character and flavor. Restaurant is also very good. All the antique-furnished rooms in the old building, if unoccupied, can be viewed as you walk the halls, much as in a museum. I paid a bit more to switch to a larger suite. If you like historic hotels, this is a gem. Very close to...

I'd stayed at this hotel approx 4 yrs ago. There was a lovely woman that was in charge named Joyce back then. This time my experience was not wonderful. I had my 2 small service dogs with me this time. I notified desk attendant, Rose, of my service animals. That's when it began. I was told about a former guest...

This hotel is definitely on our "return to " travel list. We found the St James by chance and stayed one night there in the Zane Gray room. Felt like we had been transported back in time.. every bedroom had a story to tell as every one had a famous and infamous person stayed there .eg.Jesse James, Doc Holliday,Wyatt Earp....

We spent the night at St. James Hotel while in the area for other business. We had the Mary Lambert Room with in-room bath and toilet. This is a 1870's vintage hotel and it shows, but that's what makes it neat. Very uneven foundation with lots of creaks in the floor. We had a great meal in the restaurant with...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Get into the "spirit" of the Old West at the Express St. James Hotel. Relax in a room where frontier legends stayed but beware, some of our "guests" have never checked out. For those seeking less excitement stay in the modern annex side. Guests can choose from a variety of entrees in the restaurant complimented by a drink in the Bar. ... more   less
