The location is excellent, with the Coral Garden right in front of the hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist. The room, though very basic, was clean and spacious with a wide, comfortable bed and good air-conditioning. The bathroom had hot water, a complimentary soap bar, and a towel. The windows were covered in netting (the bathroom isn't air-conditioned). The room had one socket above the bed where the bed light was situated. So, having a double socket adapter is a good idea. There's no coffee/tea/kettle in the room. However, the restaurant is open from 7am till late. The restaurant is right on the seafront, serving good traditional indonisain food. The pool is also near the beach and is clean and a good size. The hotel is geared for scuba divers, and as it has just reopened after being shut for four years, the hotel is planning to renovate all the current facilities for scuba diving.
It is the oldest hotel in Tulamben, and it has charm & character a great potential.

N.B. make sure you have enough cash to pay for your stay as the only local ATM limits withdrawal to 2,500,000.

It all started well enough. On our previous visit to Tulamben, we had eaten at the restaurant and asked to see a room here, with a view to staying at Paradise on our next dive trip. We were picked up at Denpasar airport as arranged and driven the two and a half hours to Tulamben. After checking-in, we were shown to our room. We had chosen a hot water/air-conditioned room and this also had a bath and low-level shower. We unpacked and, after a long days’ travelling, we decided to go to bed at about 10pm. When I pulled the bed clothes back, it was very obvious that they had not been changed after their previous use by an amorous couple. I got dressed again and went to reception to insist that the sheets were changed. Most staff had gone home for the night, so the receptionist went to get some clean sheets. He was gone a long time and then came back, saying that they didn’t have any dry sheets – very strange in a resort this size. He apologized and then offered us another room. I checked the bed before accepting it and then we had to repack and change rooms. Not the best end to a tiring day.

We spent a couple of happy days shore-diving at Tulamben. On the third morning, we were chatting to the staff at the dive centre, when I remembered that I had left my gloves in our room. I went back to retrieve them and found the room-boy, who was supposed to be cleaning our room, crouched down by my suitcase. He stood up suddenly when I came in and I noticed my handbag, which had been in my suitcase, on the floor, with the purse inside missing. The purse had been pushed under a table and a $50 bill and some Indonesian Rupiah were missing. I obviously couldn’t physically search the room-boy, but I told him to turn out his pockets – apparently nothing, but I don’t think he showed me everything. He denied having taken the money, which had definitely been there ten minutes earlier when I left the room. I ordered the room-boy out and ran to get my husband to check that he had had nothing stolen. I then went to reception, expecting action and we told them to call the police. We were told that they “didn’t know the number”. My husband simply walked just down the road to the police station and returned with three officers. After having explained the scenario to the police in our room, in front of the Resort’s lady owner, we then had to go to the police station to make a statement.

When we finally returned, we asked to see the owner again, with a view to arranging better security for our room. We were confronted by the male owner of the Resort, who repeatedly called us liars, saying we had invented the whole thing as an insurance scam. As we pointed out, we would not be likely to make up a story that entailed spending two hours at a hot police station and missing a whole day’s diving, just to claim an amount that was less than the excess on our insurance policy. Luckily, the great majority of our money and passports were in a safe-deposit box at reception. Judging by the number of dangling keys, we were the only people using these. Presumably everyone else leaves their money, etc, in their rooms when they go diving. The lady owner offered us another room, but the male owner was just plain nasty. I suppose that it is easier to try to discredit the foreigners than to deal with a dishonest member of staff, especially in a village like Tulamben, where everyone seems to be related.

We left the Resort. When we passed by a couple of days later to visit some friends, we noticed that the room-boy was still working at Paradise. Draw your own conclusions.

We arrived to see the young guy at reception glued to the TV screen watching the British Grand Prix. Whilst my husband talked motorracing, I was shown a large bright and clean room with ensuite bathroom. Perfect! Ten steps towards the beach was the washing area for diving gear and five more steps brought us to a large bar and restaurant area right by the sea. It had the usual wide range of fruit juices and a good selection of food. The staff were keen to help and very good humoured. The beach is black and very stony but at high tide it is easy to snorkel directly from the hotel steps. The water is very clear and the variety of reef fish is fantastic. If you walk a short distance to the left, you can dive or snorkel right above the famous shipwreck (mentioned in the guide books). This was the highlight of our stay. It was relatively easy to get transport here (we arrived here by local regular service bus from Singaraja and the driver drops you where you want). The only downside to Tulamben: we came from the west and north of Bali and this was the first time we encountered hassle from local beach vendors!

We have been staying at Paradise Tulamben twice a year since 2009. It is a perfect hotel for scuba divers, being located mid way between the USAT Liberty wreck and the Drop-Off. The coral gardens are directly in front of the hotel. The hotel is the oldest in Tulamben, and as such is showing it's age, but the location is perfect for divers.

We choose a deluxe airconditioned room and have noted some improvements the past couple of years. Bed linens are of a much better standard then in past and the rooms have been fitted with good quality blockout curtains. As always, there is plenty of very hot water, which is so welcome after a days diving. The gardens are well kept and staff always willing to look after their guests needs.

The room rate includes a continental breakfast of fruit, toast or pancake and tea or coffee. Eggs can be added for a modest extra cost. The waterfront restaurant is open from early morning to around 10pm, and serves a good variety of meals.

There is a swimming pool overlooking the ocean and wash tubs and showers for divers to rinse their gear.

Paradise Tulamben is a divers hotel, and as such, guests start to move about in the early morning, however, by 8pm, most are in bed and the hotel is very quiet during the night.

I would recommend Paradise for budget minded divers who do not need, or want to pay for luxury surroundings. There are rooms at various price points to suit all types of travellers.

Disgusting room, towels smell horrible, no wifi in room, staff not welcoming at all, I just want to not talk about it anymore, I just don t want people to come here anymore. They take advantage to be on the beach where all the first dives happen and know they can trick tourist because of this. I ll come back to tulamben to dive and stay somewhere else. I had to come here because it was include in the pro drive padi package 😡.

We had a large corner room near the beach which was very convenient as we had lots of diving gear and luggage. Nice amenities like infinity pool overlooking the beach. Catch the beautiful sunrise from the resort. The pineapple pancake for breakfast was nice. Only minus was the moldy bathroom.

The rooms are basic, but comfortable. But the location is so spectacular you won't spend any time indoors anyways. Spend all your time on the water's edge with a cold beer (reasonable price) or tasty food available. Or in the pool. You will be surrounded by people in black wetsuits washing dive gear or kitting up all day, but that's cool, 'cause you'll be one of them in 50 seconds, if you're not already a diver, as there is some pretty spectacular snorkeling just 10 meters from the shore. The staff are all super friendly. There are some cool restaurants just a short walk to the main road away. Visit 'The Safety Stop" - do the KFC style chicken - trust me. And the pork will rock your world.

This is a great resort by the beach. The rooms are pretty simple but the price matches this. The restaurant is right next to the beach, so it’s a lovely spot to enjoy lunch and watch the world go by. This place is ideal for those on a smaller budget.

I stayed for a night whilst I waited for a bungalow to become available at the wonderful Safety Stop opposite. Horrible bed bugs meant I couldn't get more than 2 hours sleep. At 2am I asked to be moved and they said all the rooms in my catagory couldn't were occupied and couldn't upgrade me to a better room until the morning. Ridiculous. Then offered me 20% of the room back.

Crap!
